I agree, Lestrade. I just happened to watch Children of Earth because I was bored and the On Demand description looked interesting. After my post-Battlestar Galactica hiatus from TV geekery, I was back in full swing with Torchwood. And I wasn't that into Miracle Day either, but Torchwood over all is great.

I've never seen Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy but I really want to.

To be completely fair to the actors and the story, I'd just come off of a night shift at the hospital when I decided to sit down and watch it (couldn't sleep). I was pretty brain-fried; I may have to watch it again when I'm mentally able to do more than merely take in pictures on the screen.

Andrew Scott said that the girl in this scene (chewing gum scene from TRF) was an extra. He said she needed to be coaxed into the scene a bit.

Heh. Lucky girl.

They cut most of my favorite scenes pfff It's like they made sure to cut all of the tiny bits that made the show a step above. But that's okay because let's be honest; How many people actually waited to watch it on PBS?

LOL, I didn't even know it was on PBS until I came to this site. Oops. And I don't watch Downton Abbey or Doctor Who on PBS either. It's a great station, but I tend to lump all of my TV viewing in one night and I don't have DVR.

Teeeeeeveeeee links. TV Links. Or Sidereel. Generally, TV Links has more BBC and ITV stuff. There are probably other sources but a) I don't like to download (my cable company seems to employ Big Brother) and b) those sites work fine for me, so I haven't looked around.

My only thought at that juncture is I would have liked the director to have held us in suspense for a while as to who had actually survived the struggle.

Agreed! That may be what I felt missing (see other Scapegoat thread). I think there was that point at which I knew how it would end, and I lost interest as a result.

What I like about it also is that not only does he 'change' because he actually is not the same person but as a result so does everyone else. It shows how his doppelganger made everyone's lives so much worse by his presence.

I mean AS's character (because I'd mentioned he seemed to me to be unlikable in the beginning). You know...there was much of it that I found kind of...slow? I don't know if that's the word. It was a great story, and well done for the most part. But I did feel like I was missing something. I know that's vague; maybe I should read the book.

Alright, I just finished it. I don't know why, but in the beginning I thought his character was going to be more devious. Great movie.

Andrew Scott was amazing, as usual. The character he played was so sweet and absolutely NOTHING like Jim Moriarty.

Of course he was. I'm looking forward to finishing it. And...so far his character seems like kind of an a$s...

P.S. I talked to my Irish (from Dublin) friend last night and was shocked to learn that she doesn't know who Andrew Scott is, and didn't recognize any of the shows or movies I mentioned him being in. Whaaatt? I know more about some Irish media than you do??

My age is somewhere between that of Irene Adler and Jim Moriarty. Or rather, the actors who played them.

I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I'm enjoying it so far. Really interested to see what happens. Have to say, I prefer Andrew with an Irish accent. The English one doesn't suit him as well as it does, say, David Tennant (though I love his Scottish accent.)

Wow...I can't imagine how ANY cuts could be made to TRF. Also, I happen to love the chewing gum scene.

I can't imagine why "hell" was omitted. I watched the BBC version and I don't even know when Masterpiece is on--if it isn't primetime, then I guess I understand it. Or maybe it's because it's PBS, I don't know. In any case, I hear stronger words on network TV all the time.

We do the same thing with names. Also, I've heard the word "bevvie" used among my age group a lot lately.

I'm pretty sure my friend wants to go to Dublin in March; not sure I can convince him to go in May as he's dead set on doing the St. Patrick's Day "thing." It's fine though. It's less expensive to go in March, and we'll be there for 10 days so there is a lot of time to do something besides be touristy on St. Patrick's Day. I assume the weather there will be a lot like the weather in Michigan in March. Well, except we still get snow at that time. I may be able to wear him down, but we do need to book soon. I don't plan on this being the last time I ever get over there, so I really am okay with either time.
