Very interesting poll!

My mother tongue's German, my second was Latin (but I can't speak it of course), my third was English (fluent now), my fourth French, in which I'm quite fluent as well and I'm learning Norwegian and Arabian right now.

But my favorite of them all is English.

I too was very disappointed to see that our favourite show didn't win in any of the many categories they were nominated in.
I would have been really nice to see them get what they all highly deserve, but then again, you are all right with what you are saying about the Emmys' relevance.
Prizes nowadays don't say much about quality.

I loved Martin Freeman's sunglasses by the way.

After having answered all these questions with utter honesty, I'm quite delighted to see I actually got Molly.

Most of the things in the description really fit, the pet answers for example...and I always found Ravenclaw especially interesting since I like ravens.

And well, I've chosen my username not only because I like Molly, but also because I can identify with her quite often in my life.

Yes, I rewatched it and you're right, it was about his gun, thanks again.

I guess I'll hold onto this as well...it really was a bit frustrating sitting in front of your television knowing what you could be watching if you were in another country...but whatever, I'll watch the DVD in the original version to get that feeling.

And I hope all you UK watchers had a good time tonight.

I really didn't have a good day, but I just watched this on YouTube and it made it much better.

He is just such a refreshingly charming and polite person. So relaxing to listen to his interviews when some other people in your life are inpolite and annoying, makes you believe that this sort of intelligent and elegant person still exists in our weird world.

What he said about Parade's End sounded really interesting, I'm so looking forward to actually watching it!

And I think he handled the whole posh-discussion very smartly. One can just hope that people leave him alone now finally.

Too bad he couldn't say anything about Sherlock, but then again, I didn't think he would, I guess it's just way too early for that.

I just rewatched this episode on German TV (usually watch the original version on the DVD's) and besides being again (even after the tenth time of watching it) fascinated about how amazing it is, I first realized there was a scene I didn't quite understand:

When John and Sherlock go to the Vauxhall Arches in order to search for the Golem, they spot him and hide behind a wall. Now John apologizes to Sherlock about something.
Does anyone know what it is?
Thanks in advance.

That is a really good piece, TicTacToe! I also like their songs Crystalized and Islands.

My biggest obsession today was "Take A Moment" by Armin van Buuren.
I think it will last a while because I absolutely adore it and I always connect it with Sherlock since I've listened to it on repeat when I first watched Sherlock!

Awesome feeling that always returns with this song.

Sorry for double-posting, but I finally found the time to try my luck with what you've explained, sherlockskitty, and this is the result.

I used tinypic, but they have only 100x75 for avatars, so it got a bit blurry.
Do you have any idea how I could make it look a bit clearer? Use a different side perhaps? I don't know...

...when you wake up to hear the sound of pouring rain outside and instantly think about "Why today, John?".
Then go into your bathroom, switch on the radio there and it plays "Staying Alive"...aaargh!

This has to be some kind of conspiracy...

I hope this is the right thread for this and that it's not yet been posted elsewhere, but I just found and watched this:

And don't really know what to think about it. I'm neither English nor American, so I'm probably not able to judge this.

But what I do know is that what's happening to Benedict now because of these few lines is really horrible and totally exaggerated.

I pre-ordered the DVDs. Somehow I have little hope that it's going to be on German TV (and then there would be the dubbing).

Great you mentioned that! Now I can do the same...and enjoy it all in the original version as well.

Have been watching the trailer four times already, it looks really amazing.

After having finished the Adventures during my summer vacation, I'm now reading the Hound.

It keeps amazing me how different Henry is there. And how lonely John is for most of the time...

I have bought the English version with the introduction by Mr. Cumberbatch himself...

Just discovered this poll and voted. Guess for who...

But I too think that Mycroft is an interesting character with a great depth about him, but also a certain comic potential.
I found Irene very mysterious, but I didn't like her for the way she treated Sherlock.

And Moriarty...well, he wins the poll, but I personally can't get myself to like him or even to find him funny. Still too damaged by Reichenbach presumably...

And well, Mrs. Hudson..."England would fall!" Quite right, in my opinion. I love the way Gatiss and Moffat extended her role from a seldom mentioned character to a part contributing a lot of warmth to the show.

Ok  I know I'm obsessed with SHERLOCK when I tell my brain to dream about him every nite, in a different setting/story.

Very good one as well! I did dream about Sherlock chasing through some old church once, but it was the night after first having watched Reichenbach, so I guess I was a little confused back then.

You know you're obsessed with Sherlock when you go shopping with your father and all you can rave about are long, classic, black coats...and these light-coloured wool pullovers...

Molly,  don't use deviantart--  those are copyrighted.  You can find pics  listed here in fanart threads. (choose a pic and ask for permission)  Also  on the internet.  Don't use those that have watermarks  (those are little squiggly marks on the picture, that are text  or signatures by the artists)  that's a copyright infringement law....thing. Google SHERLOCK  and then hit the images link.   If you'd like further help,  let me know and I'll do my best to help.

Thank you so much for this nice and very, very helpful post!!!

Yes, indeed, as I'm really not on the technical side of things and useless at any kind of design, art or similar stuff (and my computer's too old to bear another new software), I meant to find a way to use a nice picture for my icon.

Thanks a lot for your explanation and your offer to help me further!
I'll see what I can do and let you know when I've been either successfull or helpless.

Having finished reading the "Adventures", I think I would love to see them showing a modern version of Violet Hunter, I really liked her character and I find it interesting that she is one of the few women that Sherlock actually cared about.
A little, at least.

Very interesting thread!
When reading your comments about him using this sentence as a means of protecting himself from appearing vulnerable, I instantly thought of the Mycroft/Sherlock scene in Scandal ("Caring is not an advantage").

I think it could also apply to this way of his. Maybe Sherlock was brought up not to care in any way, and caring about what people think can hurt if one starts to act in order to make a certain impression or to display a certain picture.
Sherlock build up the facade of one who is only interested in his own thoughts and opinions so he can't be hurt by all the terrible things that people think about him, as for exemple the whole freak-episode with Donovan shows.

Furthermore I think that in saying that he doesn't care he involuntarily shows his vulnerability and John instantly detects it.
If it weren't for his well hidden but still existing vulnerability and the therein lying humanity, their whole partnership wouldn't work the way it does.

Very interesting and insightful survey, what a pity that it kind of went past me so I didn't participate, I would really have liked to!

My favourite episode so far is Scandal, but I understand fully why Reichenbach was the most chosen.

I don't think I have a least favourite episode as they are all amazing and utterly unique in my opinion, but I guess The Blind Banker just didn't have enough emotional potential or character development as the others. Though I found the storyline to be quite tragic for itself.

One should also consider that it was the second episode, so naturally the writers had to build up something like a gist or a basic system in which the characters could function, in order to then be able to fully delve into the characters and get to the deeper level that we've been fortunate to see in Scandal or Reichenbach for exemple.

As for the actors, I would have chosen Mr. Cumberbatch as well.  But obviously the show wouldn't be as brilliant without the amazing Martin Freeman and all others.
