TV Programmes » NCIS » July 15, 2012 11:15 am

It is a great show, at first I was not really into it because of Bellisario and his tendency to the american army, with Jag some of the episodes looked like recruiting-shows. And in the first seasons of NCIS some of the political backgrounds for the stories got a little bit out of reality. But that got better in fact it got so good that the army did let go of the series.
And the storytelling got so grab with all the jokes going on it is now a real treat to watch the show.

Books » Our childhood books » July 15, 2012 11:06 am

My childhood books, that is quite a task, I did read so much sometimes I did only stop because I had to go down and eat what my mother cooked. I did love all sorts of books with adventures but most of the time they would be written for people elder than I was at the time.

I did read "The Hobbit" I got it from my child-docter when I had a pneumonia, after that I read "Lord of the rings"

I loved "Balduin Pfiff" from Wolfgang Eck and "Kommissar Klicker" I can not remember who wrote it

I do love until now everything from James Krüss especially "Mein Urgroßvater und ich"

I did read everything of Michael Ende

And I got into Isaac Asimov because of the big SiFi collection of my fathers, I really loved the robot-stories

The Lensmen-cyclus from E E Smith was also one of my favorite books but sadly enough my father did not have all of the books

When I got into key teens I read Umberto Eco "Das Foucaultsche Pendel" and "Im Namen der Rose"

Also all of the Dorothy L Sayers Stories with Lord Peter Whimsey

all of them besides of Sherlock ;)

Music » What music do you hear? » June 7, 2012 7:19 am

I must admit that my taste is a little bit wider than most people.
I like the blues but I a also into rock, heavy metal, prog, jazz, punk
I did not get it with classical music and I do not like techno and rap.

As an instrument I love guitars.

Therefor my favorite bands are Govn´t Mule, Eric Clapton, Metallica, Rush, TransAtlantic, Cream, Die Ärzte, Die Fantastischen Vier, ...

So what is your choice of music?

Introductions Please... » Hello everybody » June 4, 2012 5:22 pm

sorry I am so late replying but I had a busy weekend, but now I am back.

Thanks for the compliment on my english. For that I can only blame A C Doyle, Dorothy L Sayers, Jeremy Brett and maybe Martin Shaw. I like seeing the english TV series in english and not in german. The jokes are better and I can improve my english and getting a feeling for the language. My english learned at school was really bad reading and watching helped me a lot.

@ wimsey
I like both Ian Carmichael and Edward Petherbridge for their portraits of Lord Peter. I could understand Harriets problem to marry Wimsey, she wanted to be shire about herself. But for me it is one of the best love stories ever written. I especially love the part in the boat when she realizes that she is in love with him. But that scene translated not so well in TV.

Hello Wimsey welcome on board.
Are you by any chance not only a fan of A. C. Doyle but also a fan of Dorothy L. Sayers? I had to think "Lord Peter Wimsey" when I read your name.

A Scandal In Belgravia » So what would YOU give Sherlock for Christmas? » May 26, 2012 2:40 pm

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

I do not know how hard german is to learn but I have heard that the grammar is hard to learn. I never got it right myself.

I can totally picture him from the ACD stories although in the canon he is supposed to be quite corpulent. But it's much nicer that way anyway, isn't it? ;)
I'm also very interested in his character, in so many points he's very alike to Sherlock and then again so different. Would love to know what their childhood looked like.

Yes in the canon Mycroft is corpulent, that is because he did not like Legwork ;) and he was evan more intelligent than Sherlock. I think he nearly never got out of his flat or the Diogenes Club.

For the childhood of these two, there is a reason for looking at people like that, I think it was a violent childhood. It is self-protection if you want to find out what people think or do next. And than they discovered that they can use it to earn money.

Or their parents did not function and they had to do all the stuff to survive and so they start to read the adults to get around. They also needed it to not stick out of the mass of people.

Moftiss » Mark Gatiss as Mycroft » May 23, 2012 7:23 pm

Who else loves his interpretation of Mycroft Holmes.
I think he is really great, I had my fun with the "Scandal in Belgravia", when he had his discussions with Benedict Cumberbatch. I fear that was the most I would see him for this season. But I will find out soon enough this weekend they send the Hound and Reichenbach Fall.

TV Programmes » Dirk Gently » May 23, 2012 7:07 pm

sorry I never heard from Dirk Gently but at first I thought of George Gently played by Martin Shaw. I really liked it. :-D
But I also liked "the Professionals".

Other Adaptations » Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes » May 23, 2012 6:46 pm

Jeremy Brett is also my favorite Sherlock Holmes. But it was not only Jeremy Brett who was great also both Watson´s where great. I loved the humor in the TV Show it was all how I remembered it from the books.
And these are the things I find in the new Sherlock TV-Show from the BBC.

Introductions Please... » Hello everybody » May 23, 2012 6:30 pm

So I have find my way to this part of the web.
I am from Germany and as some of you I am fighting with my school english. I started to read Sherlock in german in a children's version when I got my first Sherlock-book in english I was not able to read it. It took me until I was 30 to read it and I have to blame Jeremy Brett that I got the understanding of the victorian english.
So I learned a lot with Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson and they are the ones who got me interested in all sorts of crime literature and TV-shows.
