Speaking of villains, do you guys consider Mary to be a villain? Just the way that she is written on the show is very different to any other incarnation of Mary & her spy past could give her potential villainhood.

Not trying to cozy up to the staff or anything but if you've ever run a website or a blog or a forum, you know how much time & effort goes into basically an unpaid job (let's call it what it is; it's a second occupation).

If you are a mod (whether this forum or any other large community or website), what drives you? What keeps you committed to your mod duties? If you're a regular member like me, what's your take on online moderation?

Like if you find out the actor to your favourite character on TV is actually a total ass in real life, does it change your initial love of said character?

If you find out the writer of your favourite book actually holds very different principals in his own life. Like he could be preaching love and tolerance but it turns out he can be a bit racist in real life.

Basically, if the creator has double standards but the message in his original work or in the character he plays is still an inspiring one, would you continue to support the message or would you boycott it because of the double standard?

Hi Phantom, you really should see a doctor. Sounds like a joint thing and not a muscle thing. You need to increase your calcium in take (like triple it). Maybe consider physiotherapy - they might be able to teach you how to move better and put less stress on it.

Mirror phobia & roach phobia is me.

While roach phobia is more normal, mirror phobia does get in the way of real life. Ppl assume that I'm a Tom Boy coz you would never catch me admiring my reflection in a shop window on the street. My avoidance of mirror like entities marks me out as being decidedly un-girl-like. Sigh...

Yes. He is very smart. My family refers to him as the modern Chaplin coz like Chaplin's tramp, Mr Bean is a mostly non-speaking role told through body language. My parents speak poor English but have no problems understanding Mr Bean episodes.

My favourite portion of Blackadder is the intelligent Jibberish segment where Contrafibularity was first introduced

Creative arts is a product industry = easier to market; harder to get any attention. Doctors & surgeons work in a service industry = harder to market; easier to get attention. That's why creative arts seem to get all the attention.

If you're a medical specialist & all your patients come from GP referrals, you don't really need to market to general public but artistic works rely on interest from general public so their louder in trying to get attention.

Just started the series. Is fun. Helping good guys by conning bad guys. Use the same methods as the other side but with "good intent". Plus the voice over narration sounds almost Sherlockian but only one or two lines of observation rather than several pages

When Life runs out of meaning and you manufacture a purpose, this is called Art.

Why is it that art (fiction, music, painting, etc...) - the most expressive form of human communication is always concieved of and often implemented alone?

Why is it that economists can justify their trade by reminding people of how much money they could make for them & scientists can justify their trade by reminding people of how much of the functioning of our lives depends on their work, but artists cannot justfiy their trade by reminding people of how much fun & joy they bring them?

Somehow artistic and/or cultural endeavours because they are less profitable, are always deemed to be less important?

On the flip side, when someone does make it big in the arts, people usually respond with "oh they were just lucky". Funny how no one ever goes "he was just lucky" when referring to a mechanic or a surgeon...

Re: Phantom getting funding:

If the child of a famous celebrity passes through your clinic, you will get funding straight away. It's ugly but the unfortunate reality is that these days people don't fund serious work unlike (a) there has been a disaster like funding for scientists studyng ocean currents & tsunamis skyrocketed after the Boxing Day tsunamis or (b) someone really famous has accessed your services.

We don't want to wish disaster upon large numbers of people so we should go for the second option of having a celebrity mascot. It's still a sell out but not as damaging as option (a).

It just goes to show that people with real issues aren't in the media all the time with their issues. Unlike modern pop stars, Robin Williams didn't voice his issues in public. That's why his death is all the more shocking because it was unexpected.

Amazing that he was the life of the party & made everybody else happy (but himself). And of course the media is trying to cash in with Time magazine publishing a commemorative special edition.

I love that aabout the media. When you're alive no one wants to know about you but the minute you die, you suddenly become ratings gold & everyone wants to do a story about you.

To me, he will always be Hook & Keating & Maguire.

There will be more changes in the coming year (beyond the already massive changes just past) but as long as they keep Abby & DiNozzo I'm happy

Yes. It is referring to the Australian Aborigines.

They are the lyrics to a famous Australian song by The Seekers (sort of an unofficial national anthem). see if you can guess who this stanza is referring to.

This forum has a high number of people who work in science based industries (e.g. medicine, research, technology, etc...)

I wanted to ask you guys, how do you reconcile what you know to be true from your work/industry with what the book/church tells you?

This is not an anti-religion post; just curious coz I am areligious (different to atheist) I don't have to face this dilemma.

But I know that many scientists are religious, including the famous ones (llike Newton).

It seems that for many scientists, their work does not impact on their beliefs at all. If they were areligious prior to working in the sciences, they continue to be areligious after. If they were religious prior to their work, they're still religious at the end of their work.

Is it coz your able to compartmentalise? Do you treat the two as separate entities and leave it at that? What has been your experience with science & religion/philosophy?

I came from the dream time. From the dusty red soil plains. I am the ancient heart. The keeper of the flame. I stood upon the rocky shore. I watched the tall ships come.
