Sadly, not confined to those who speak Slavic languages. There have been many incidents of xenophobic and racist assaults since the Brexit vote. It makes me ashamed to be British!

I think I've read pretty much everything Hardy wrote. At the moment I am reading...War and Peace...I may be some time!

What a bunch of ignorant and selfish girls. I think someone going out and complaining to someone from the cinema would have been the way to go but this would have meant missing a chunk of the film. It is based in the Enfield haunting isn't it. There was a mini-series on recently on Sky called The Enfield Haunting. The cast included Timothy Spall, Juliet Stevenson, Matthew Macfadyn etc. Certainly worth watching if you can find it.

50 Shades is certainly fantasy as it bears little, if any, resemblance to true BDSM; in that respect it is a dangerous fantasy. It is still derivative, plagiarised, badly written fanfic. Can you tell I'm not a fan?

I bet you could have some stories to tell ojisan, especially having been in Hollywood for so long. If you don't mind me asking, what did you do in motion pictures?

It was probably hidden within another. I was gutted when I realised it had been cancelled as I had just stumbled across it.

As someone who follows more than one fandom I am going to contribute my tuppenyworth. All shows and filtered by the viewer through their own experiences and expectations. Often you can watch exactly the same show, exactly the same episode, as someone else but when you read their interpretations you think 'are we actually watching the same show?' People often see and hear what they wish to see and hear.

As for homophobia many men, especially in my experience older men, are scared and wary of gay men. They make inappropriate comments and have negative reactions through their prejudice and conditioning. They often seem to be unaware that their comments etc. are not acceptable and are riddled with misconceptions. Regarding lesbianism however, they see that as tittilating, I think because they don't see it as a threat to themselves or their sexuality.

In my experience women are far more accepting of gay, lesbian and other orientations. This, I believe, comes down to the male heirarchical dominance of society combined with a lack of tolerance for those who are perceived as being 'different'. Women have generally been subjugated and therefore are more tolerant of other groups who are also subjugated (unless they've been frankly brainwashed by some religious group or another- often male dominated). Younger people (male and female) seem generally to be far more tolerant and less prejudiced.

Went to Ascot for the horse racing. It rained. Not all day but when it rained it rained like it does in Florida!

Tragic events. By-the-by my son works in 'the cheese grater' which is next to 'the gherkin' in that still of Steven.

Anyone? Season 3 finished. Astonishingly good show. I've even watch even watched it dubbed into German on the DVDs I bought. If you like shows that are NOT just procedural a and actually challenge you intellectually (let alone the acting and writing) then you are depriving yourself of a gem if you do not watch this.

Anyone? Anyone watched season/series 3. God, if you haven't watched this show you really, really should. Not for the faint-hearted it is violent, has sex, drugs (and rock 'n' roll) and very strong language. It is wonderfully written, wonderfully acted, has a great cast, super costuming, stunning use of music and camerawork. I cannot recommend this show too highly. It exudes class!

I think I made a thread about this ages ago...but anyhow...yes it is utterly amazing isn't it! How? Why? The BBC cancelled I cannot comprehend. The ratings may not have been high enough but I think their promoting was just appalling frankly. Amazingly written. Amazingly acted and wonderful cast. The style concept is perfect. The costumes divine. I am still devastated that they cancelled this absolute gem of a series.
