Well providing I'm not too traumatised, of course!

I watched TLD on BBC One last week and was so traumatised by it (and I don't use the word lightly) that I had to immediately rewatch on iPlayer!

Have a wonderful evening, all of you!  It will be great seeing it in the cinema!

I feel so blessed to have been in Europe for this series! I was in Amsterdam for T6T and in the days prior to airing, there were giant "Miss Me" electronic signs all over downtown. It was impossible not to think of Sherlock!

Sounds like you have a good service.

I bought my ticket directly from Vue. Nice of them to alert me.

I have a reserved seat, but still want to show up early as I don't want to miss anything!

Mary, lucky you.
I got no such alert!

I bought my ticket the second they went on sale, hence why I got the alert as they offered me a refund if I didn't want to go anymore....

I'm staying in Hebden Bridge for a month and was very excited to get to see TFP at the cinema in Halifax. But I just got alerted that the performance is moving from 8:15 to 8:45, meaning that I will miss the last bus back to Hebden Bridge. I don't really fancy walking 9mi or paying something like 20 quid for a taxi and was hoping that someone on this board might be able to help me out with a lift?

Thank you,

I think that's an exaggeration. The "hate" word is quite overused here.

Says the person who felt necessary to scream at me in all capitals that Mary shot Sherlock.

I find it amazing that it's perfectly okay for some people to say absolutely terrible things about what they want to have happen to a character and tell another poster it's not okay to have a different opinion, but when that poster with a different opinion does the same, she is chastized. Nice double standard.

I knew this was the topic that was going to lead me to this point and I've avoided responding to it as much as I could, but some of you really need to go back and read some of your comments about Mary and take a good hard look at them because hate and insane vitriol are facts, not opinions.

I've had a lot of fun on this board, but I'm done. I won't be back.

This is about the 10th time I write this post and I think I'm actually going to submit it even though I know I am going to get so much flack for it. But here goes.

I just don't get the insane vitriol against Mary because I don't think her shooting Sherlock (for reasons that are perfectly clear to me) is in any way as bad as the way John has treated Sherlock in series 3. The hate for Mary on this forum is frankly frightening. After first viewing HLV, I expected her to come back as a villain, but upon further analysis, it would be surprise me if her role gets any darker. I've covered a lot of those thoughts in other threads, so I won't get back into it again, although I look forward to the comments I get about these thoughts.

I don't want anything bad to happen to Baby Watson and I would welcome the growth of character that would come from BW being on the show in whatever capacity (I think Sherlock would be fantastic with her, for one thing). ACD John had a dog, so it's not a stretch for me that the dog would be turned into a baby for this incarnation of the stories. If BW were to die, then the only way I can imagine the series moving forward is by flashing ahead to the future after John has had time to grieve.

Based on John's reaction to Sherlock's 'death' and Mary's betrayal, losing Mary and the baby is going to destroy him. I cannot imagine him undergoing that kind of loss and just moving back in with Sherlock and carrying on as if nothing happened. I can't think of a single scenario posited in this thread that wouldn't leave John an emotional wreck. The only thing I think could work would be that he and Mary agree to split up and she has the baby full-time with John being a part-time dad. That scenario would work for me while effectively getting Mary out of the picture.

Thank you! And I think the hysterical laughter at the end of TEH in the train car was JUST THAT. Hysteria.

I think that Sherlock was panicking until he found the off switch and then he was struck by the absurdity of having survived what he did only to come home and nearly go BOOM.

Sherlock in tears as he giggles hysterically in TEH is, in my ranking, the second funniest scene in the entire series (after learning that he can drive!). If I need a pick me, I just watch that. It's so rare to watch him completely lose it like that and the best part is that it completely works at cutting the tension!

No idea how well paid they are in London but they seem to have come into money somehow.

I have two theories about this. They are not mutually independent.

1) Mary has money from her past that she told John was an inheritance from her late parents, which she was saving for occasions like this.
2) John started handling the finances as he and Sherlock worked more together, insisted clients start paying, and got a cut from each case.

As for Mycroft, there's no way he got rich working in the civil service. Moftiss was originally going in a different direction with the Holmes boys' upbringing, which would have had them Holmes family as being well off and his house being the family seat. Now that that's no longer the case, I'm guessing he gets his money from freelance consulting work. I was a Canadian public servant for years and worked in Mycroft's field. Our civil service isn't that different from the Brits' (same oath to the Queen and all that), so I have an idea of the pay scales and limits to which you can consult and get supplemental income without gaining suspicion, so this theory works for my head canon.

The Empty Hearse » The mysterious villain, was: Who plays Moran? » December 17, 2014 2:46 pm

There's an interview where Gatiss talked about Moran and said that they just used the name for 'that guy' in TEH and that's it. The interview is quoted here.

Here's the relevant bit:

Sebastian Moran is the sort of baddie in the original story of The Empty House and he’s Lord Moran in there, it’s just a tiny glancing reference really. We talked a lot about this, Doyle had it himself, Sebastian Moran is assuming quite big proportions in the world of Sherlock, but really he’s just Moriarty’s henchman, there’s not much more to it.

I find it suspicious that the actor doesn't get any credits at all...

Okay, the grapes are funny, but Martin being dressed in the Joker's colours is even better (I'm really into Batman ). I love the look on Ben's face and the arm around the shoulders, Martin leaning in. It's obvious they have a good time on set.

I'm torn between thinking we're being messed with, they're doing promo pics, and hoping that perhaps they're filming scenes as the actors become available.

Now, I have go Google 'martin freeman grapes'...

To my foreign ears, Sherlock speaks more "posh" (in lack of a better word) than John. Is that just me hearing hallucinations, or does anybody else hear the same?

It's the same to me. Sherlock even sounds 'posher' than Benedict. I keep waiting for the interview where Benedict talks about his Sherlock voice because the actor and the character sound absolutely nothing alike.

By the way, a loo/toilet/restroom/bog is a washroom in Canada. As if weren't all confused enough.

I'm in a Spanish-speaking country for a few months and still have no idea if I should be asking for the baño or the servicios.

And in my culture (French Canadian), you can ask for the salle de bath (literally bathroom), the toilette (toilet), or, my favourite, the petit coin (little corner)...

Okay, this is definitely OT, but I had to comment to say that I have never read the scene that way. What a brilliant observation. Molly basically deduced Sherlock and revealed something intimate about him and he flipped his lid. I wonder if there are other scenes where this happens...

More on topic, I love the comments in John's blog about this scene. After this meeting, John says that he thinks Sherlock might be gay and that it doesn't matter either way. We know John gets exasperated, even defensive, when people tell him he's gay, but this comment really cements for me that he has no issues with homosexuality (because he doesn't mind sharing a flat with a potentially gay man) and therefore tells me that he really is straight and not just protesting too much about it.

So it seems it goes both ways? John curses more than Sherlock and uses more slang words, but Sherlock makes more grammatical mistakes?

Perhaps. I don't know if it means anything. Just something I noticed.

Why does "shut up" irritate you?

I find it incredibly rude and hurtful.

I didn't know the s-word was a big thing to let through

I remember reading something about an American TV show (one of the older medical dramas, probably ER) on a regular cable where language is monitored and there was a huge kerfuffle about the S-sword being said. Every country's different.
