This is my favorite movie of all time, and of course, a buddy film.  Just happened upon a video of Sean Connery at "The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) 2010".  Heard this quote and thought immediately of our heros:

Quoted as a directive from John Huston, director, to Sean Connery and Michael Caine.  "The characters of Danny and Peachy were really one man and as long as they were together, they could do anything.  And the moment that they started to drift apart they were like you and me...And that was the holding of this partnership."

Reichenbach Theories » Moftiss Copenhagen Interview » August 19, 2012 7:25 pm

My point is that the spider would not be the suicide bomber.

Reichenbach Theories » Moftiss Copenhagen Interview » August 19, 2012 5:36 pm

Can't stop thinking about what Mark said, when they were discussing Moriarty suicide theories.  He suggested that he really did commit suicide and suggested that he was a suicide bomber.  Interesting, because Osama bin Laden never strapped on a bomb vest, he controlled and manipulated others into doing it.

And the cabbie said "...but you're only a man, and they are so much more."

Was Moriarty just a pawn of a much larger network?  Or was the man on the roof not really Moriarty at all?

That's all I have so far, but thought I would throw it out.

Wow, that was fun, and with a lot of good Reichenbach info at the end.

I think you mean when he realizes that he forgot to bring his gun...and then Sherlock hands it to him.

Yes, I have to agree.

John has his first (index) and second finger tips right over the radial pulse.  Exactly the right place!

Johnny Cash sings this with such pain!  Perfect pairing of song and video.

Blind Banker is the one and only episode I would not watch 300 times!

Sherlock Poetry, Stories & Books » 221B- Starrett poem » July 30, 2012 3:46 pm

I went back to this poem to explain John's blog counter to a friend who watched aSiB this weekend.  This line jumped out at me this time:

"Only those things the heart believes are true."

I've said before that John's head knows that Sherlock is dead, but his heart believes differently.

I'm not trying to say that the explanation will be simplistic or sentimentalized, just saying that I love the way that Moffett/Gatiss make the effort to bring all Sherlockiana into their show.

221B

Here dwell together still two men of note
Who never lived and so can never die:
How very near they seem, yet how remote
That age before the world went all awry.
But still the game's afoot for those with ears
Attuned to catch the distant view-halloo:
England is England yet, for all our fears—
Only those things the heart believes are true.

A yellow fog swirls past the window-pane
As night descends upon this fabled street:
A lonely hansom splashes through the rain,
The ghostly gas lamps fail at twenty feet.
Here, though the world explode, these two survive,
And it is always eighteen ninety-five.

Same here.  Sherlock tells Moriarty that he had been beaten, Moriarty agrees and then pulls out a gun?

Sammy wrote "Is it weird that I would love to be famous just so that he might also be interested in my person and not just the other way round? Haha."

An absolutely adorable bit from the BBC 6 Music radio program that Martin and Amanda hosted was when Amanda was teasing Martin about how fanboy Martin was about wishing that he could meet his musician idols like Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.  He was afraid he would come across as creepy.

I watched this 2007 movie last night.  Peter Greenaway is not the most user friendly director out there, so I could see how it would be very off-putting for the casual viewer.  However, I love a movie that requires multiple viewings in order to catch everything, and loved it.  I will be watching it again, particularly after watching the companion documentary J'accuse.  Martin is great in the role of Rembrandt and the depth of the mystery should appeal to this group.

I watched RDJ's Sherlock Holmes last night.  Perhaps I would have liked it, pre-Sherlock, but I rather doubt it.  I'm not a fan of special effects taking over a storyline.  There was about 30 minutes worth of plot in that movie.  Similarly, although I am a huge Three Musketeers fan, I wasn't interested in watching the latest one when I saw the special effects.  When they have the kind of detail provided by ACD or Dumas, why in the world do they need to be entirely special effect dependent?  At least give us enough storyline to keep my attention.  RDJ and Jude Law were both very good in the movie, but I was left wanting much more of them.

One thing I did enjoy was seeing little moments that Moftiss took right out of this movie, I'm assuming just for the fun of it.  Short snippets of dialogue or "rhododendron ponticum".
