Um, try BBC iPlayer. It should still be showing for a fair while yet.

I practically screamed when I finally recognised the coroner! Although I did have a funny feeling who the pointy hats were once we could see them.  So very clever but I do feel a bit sorry for anyone coming to Sherlock for the first time. I recommended tonight's Special to a friend on the strength of it being Victorian, as she hasn't watched the first three seasons - a bit too modern for her - I just know when I see her on Tuesday she's going to be going "Huh&%$$&*(^%^&?>>????" at me. Sorry, Anne ...
Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway, I'm glad it segueded into season 4. More lovely 'what if's' until setlock in the spring. I hope ...

Moriarty had many years to formulate his plans re: Sherlock and Molly is his Ace in the Hole. I don't think Sherlock's heart has been burned yet, but predict that, via Molly, it will be in season 4.

I feel that Molly being involved with Moriarty somehow stretches things a bit too far even for this show.  She helped Sherlock fake his death.  Sherlock went on to dismantle most of Moriarty's network.  I can't come up with any idea how that would've been something Moriarty wanted to happen.

Hmm, yeah, I know. Not watertight. Ever since I realised that Sherl and Molls would never get together, I have wanted them connected in some way and I love the themes of tragedy and deception, I'm afraid. I always kind of hoped that Molly was some kind of deep-cover mole. Oh, well, I guess I just have to wait and see.

Thank you for the offer! It would be much appreciated.

One idea I was wondering about actually, which could be in addition or another time or whatever, is that the Frankfurt Christmas Market is on in Birmingham from the 15th of November. I'm not sure what others think, but I always love that particular market when it's on... what do you think?

And what idea for dates did you have on the Manchester meet, SH? I'll probably come up by coach since they have cheap rates at the moment...

I live near Birmingham and although Manchester is too far to go for a meetup - I'm public transport only and don't have the dosh to be honest - I would so be up for a meetup for the Frankfurt Xmas Market; I've been a couple of times and it's a fantastic place to get presents!  Plus all the Sherlock chat...

Hi! I'm quite a newbie on this forum and I was just wondering if there were any Sherlock fans out there who can't get to Manchester or Leeds or London for meetups.  Something in our local area would be nice, don't you think?
Post if you are in Brum or Solihull or anywhere around, and are interested in meeting up.

All of the Doctor Who dvds have had the prequels and minisodes as 'special features' on their dvds, so I would assume this would have the same.

Okay, I'm a Brit and have just received the Region 2 version of the season 3 dvds. There are some special features but mainly about the technical aspect of how certain things were shot, plus a section on the fans, the villains and speculation.
However, there is NO sign of the Many Happy Returns mini episode, NOR any audio commentaries.
I'm assuming they wanted to get the discs out asap.  Personally, I would have swapped having the tiny wait for the mini ep and the audio comms.  Particularly the latter.  Anecdotal material is vital to me to satisfy my 'what was going through their minds when' bunnies.
Mixed feelings about this dvd release.  Can only hope we get better extras on some kind of future bundled special edition - if there's ever going to be such a thing.

the contradictions of Mycroft bother me in this episode.

How does Mycroft NOT see that CAM is maneuvering to have Mycroft under his power?

He speaks to Sherlock openly during Christmas saying,"Your loss would break my heart"

"Oh Sherlock what have you done?" Looking at him as a young child and saying, "There will come a time when we will need Sherlock Holmes".

Not given to outbursts of brotherly compassion and then recommends a 6 mo. suicide mission...

Then he calls Sherlock back off of the Jet when "Moriarty" pops up again.
(Is anyone else shocked that Sherlock would be so congenial after his death sentence when Mycroft needs him again... his brother just sent him off to die)

Your thoughts?

Um, sorry spoilers for season 4
Mycroft runs the country.
I think that Mycroft has arranged - without the other government members and MI6 etc knowing - for this threat of the return of Moriarty to ensure that Sherlock actually never really goes on the mission. He puts on an act for the benefit of others - in a similar manner to his younger brother - but he also exercises a bit of his usual elder brother authority over Sherlock - the four minutes he was in the air - "I hope you've learned your lesson", to try and make sure that Sherlock doesn't do anything so wildly self-sacrificing again.
Just my twopennyworth ...

So...Sherlock was taking drugs. He argues it was for the case? What do you think? Was there a legitimate reason for him to be in that drug den? Because...in the end, it didn't actually have anything to do with Magnussen, did it? I feel like he just used that as an excuse...I don't know. I can't think of any actual connection between the drug den and Magnussen. Unless I'm just not remembering something from the episode.

the scene in the drug den and the wife going to John saying about Isaac on the drugs is actually an interpreted part of another canon story, 'The Man With The Twisted Lip'.  Watson goes to the opium den to find the guy and finds Sherlock there undercover, just like in the episode.

I think I've got the clue everyone missed.  I think the correct explanation is the one that Sherlock gives Anderson because the clue that everyone's missed is actually given whilst Sherlock and John are in the lab and John gets the phone call about Mrs. Hudson being shot.  What's Sherlock doing when that happens?  He's playing with a smallish black ball on the counter top.
The squash ball he will use to stop his circulation temporarily.
Honestly, these writers are sneaky, I've watched that episode half a dozen times at least and I've only just realised.

Okay, newbie here, just posting my couple of 2 cents worth:

With regard to Molly's inclusion into the series - in respect to her not being canon - when Conan Doyle wrote the stories, you could perhaps bear in mind that women were regarded rather differently then to how they are now.  In Victorian England, women did not have the power or the understanding or respect that is regarded as their right today.  Men understood other men in as much as they were regarded as being more important than women, generally speaking, and also that they were - again, generally speaking, much more able to be fulfilled human beings. Women were even more of a mystery than they are considered now, by the male population and because we fear what we don't understand, for thousands of years their role has been strictly defined and enforced, largely speaking, so that the men could maintain control of their own environments much more than they are able to today.

As this version of the stories are very deliberately modern day, I feel that Molly (although she has only been included through the series because Lou was so very good in the part) is absolutely a necessary inclusion in the series.  One of the previous posts has already pretty much stated why [sorry don't know how to include quote from that post without losing this reply} and I would add that although women to a fair extent allowed themselves to be restricted by men because a) they didn't have a lot of choice in the matter, and b) it made their lives less stressful, imho, I'm assuming that they would still have had a lot of the emotions and desires that the women of today have. Therefore we are getting a very important point of view - the female perspective - that was simply missing from the original stories.

My other 2 cents worth is much shorter (phew! says you); it is that Sherlock only seems to be really mean to Molly when she shows signs of having a boyfriend.  Whether he manipulates to ensure that the people he needs s

Hi!  I'm an old time Sherlock fan as in the visual media.  Seen most of the movies, tv series etc. Have only recently acquired the stories, I'm ashamed to say, and am making my way through them now.  Did read one or two of the shorter ones in school, the one that sticks in my memory so far, The Engineer's Thumb mainly because it sort of reminded me a bit of the more fantastical and scary parts of the Phantom of the Opera. The traps etc.  Plus, gruesome way to lose a thumb...
Loved the Granada series but now hard pressed to know which I prefer; that one or Sherlock.
This series is amazing and so clever!
