I practically screamed when I finally recognised the coroner! Although I did have a funny feeling who the pointy hats were once we could see them.  So very clever but I do feel a bit sorry for anyone coming to Sherlock for the first time. Okay, I'm on the Molly band wagon and I'm afraid my brain is in two minds as to what could happen: either Molly dies or Molly is Moriarty's sister (planted into Sherlock's life a long time ago and is obviously a brill actress as she seems to have gained his hard-won trust. Moriarty had many years to formulate his plans re: Sherlock and Molly is his Ace in the Hole. I don't think Sherlock's heart has been burned yet, but predict that, via Molly, it will be in season 4.

I live near Birmingham and although Manchester is too far to go for a meetup - I'm public transport only and don't have the dosh to be honest - I would so be up for a meetup for the Frankfurt Xmas Market; I've been a couple of times and it's a fantastic place to get presents!  Plus all the Sherlock chat...

Okay, I'm a Brit and have just received the Region 2 version of the season 3 dvds. There are some special features but mainly about the technical aspect of how certain things were shot, plus a section on the fans, the villains and speculation.
However, there is NO sign of the Many Happy Returns mini episode, NOR any audio commentaries.
I'm assuming they wanted to get the discs out asap.  Personally, I would have swapped having the tiny wait for the mini ep and the audio comms.  Particularly the latter.  Anecdotal material is vital to me to satisfy my 'what was going through their minds when' bunnies.
Mixed feelings about this dvd release.  Can only hope we get better extras on some kind of future bundled special edition - if there's ever going to be such a thing.

the scene in the drug den and the wife going to John saying about Isaac on the drugs is actually an interpreted part of another canon story, 'The Man With The Twisted Lip'.  Watson goes to the opium den to find the guy and finds Sherlock there undercover, just like in the episode.

Okay, newbie here, just posting my couple of 2 cents worth:

With regard to Molly's inclusion into the series - in respect to her not being canon - when Conan Doyle wrote the stories, you could perhaps bear in mind that women were regarded rather differently then to how they are now.  In Victorian England, women did not have the power or the understanding or respect that is regarded as their right today.  Men understood other men in as much as they were regarded as being more important than women, generally speaking, and also that they were - again, generally speaking, much more able to be fulfilled human beings. Women were even more of a mystery than they are considered now, by the male population and because we fear what we don't understand, for thousands of years their role has been strictly defined and enforced, largely speaking, so that the men could maintain control of their own environments much more than they are able to today.

As this version of the stories are very deliberately modern day, I feel that Molly (although she has only been included through the series because Lou was so very good in the part) is absolutely a necessary inclusion in the series.  One of the previous posts has already pretty much stated why [sorry don't know how to include quote from that post without losing this reply} and I would add that although women to a fair extent allowed themselves to be restricted by men because a) they didn't have a lot of choice in the matter, and b) it made their lives less stressful, imho, I'm assuming that they would still have had a lot of the emotions and desires that the women of today have. Therefore we are getting a very important point of view - the female perspective - that was simply missing from the original stories.
