General Sherlock Discussion » Converting your friends and family members » July 7, 2013 2:54 pm |
I finally got my work friend to watch it. I've been bugging her for ages. Now, not only is she hooked, she's converted her boyfriend, her sister, and her parents!!
Last night she came over and we watched Great Game and Scandal together. After Sherlock rescues Mrs. Hudson from the evil CIA dude, my friend sighed, "I know he says he's not a hero...but he's *my* hero." She was also quite jealous of Irene, and when Scandal was over she declared that had she was officially "in love with him."
She's also a big fan of John. She had to work yesterday before she came over so I texted her pictures of them throughout the day. She replied to one of them that John "looks like such a little nugget cutie." I teased her that she loooooves him, and she said "I do. I just want to hug his little body."
So, I call that a victory

I'm a HUGE tennis fan! Watching Murray in the final now. Come on Andy!
Character Analysis » Who is your favourite character (not Sherlock or John)? » July 2, 2013 1:51 am |
Definitely Lestrade! I just have a huge soft spot for Rupert Graves, and the character is so lovable. I love how much fun he seems to be having in Hound, and the line about him filming Sherlock when he was drugged in Scandal.
That being said, Moriarty is freakin brilliant.

Welcome to the forum John! I'm new too
Susi, every time I read that line I hear Benedict's amazing voice! I love that scene, it's so Sherlocky!

The Great Game » Shooting the wall » June 18, 2013 2:45 am |
Sorry to start a whole thread just for this, but it has to be said - in the very begining, when he's sitting in the chair, with his eyes closed, right before he shoots the wall?
He looks freaking STUNNING.
That is all...
(but seriously though, why is he so pretty?)
Series Three Suggestions & Ideas » How will John react when he finds out Sherlock isn't dead? » June 18, 2013 2:08 am |
I'm not a shipper, but all I can say is THEY BETTER HAVE A HUG, or *SOMETHING*!
John was so sad at the cemetary...I just wanted Sherlock to pop out of the trees and say "Ok, it's over, I'm not dead!" and then they would have a great big snuggle! ....and then John would be mad and probably punch him in the face, but mostly he would be sooooo happy his BFF is still alive!
I just love them together, not in a romantic way, just in a bestie way.

Lol, your intro almost matches mine - have been a fan about a fortnight and am totally in love with Sherlock himself, the whole show and Benedict. It's bringing me a lot of happiness and this place is awesome! xxxx
Agreed! It's especially awesome since no one in my life has seen the show -___-
why won't anyone believe me when I tell them it's the best show in the universe? Don't they understand I'm only trying to enrich their lives? ;p

Hi Merry,
Welcome to the forum!! Looking forward to reading your posts! You sound like a true Sherlockian with a serious Benediction ;) I'm a newby when it comes to that (i just discovered Sherlock and benedict for about 2 months ago) , but my Benediction isn't less serious, haha
I was just wondering ( i accept it if you want to stay anonymous when it comes to personal info); how old are you?
Greetings from the Netherlands, Foy
Hi Foy! I'm 32.
I just discovered a wonderful treatment for Benaddiction--his reading of Ode to A Nightingale. You can find it on YouTube. Fair warning though, you may lose hours of your life just listening to it over and over and over....

Will be pirating the new series
That's not to say I won't purchase the DVD when it does come out but I'm sick of waiting an addition 6 months to a year to see what everyone else has already seen. As soon as it has aired in Britain, I will be streaming/torrenting it (Yes, us fans can be very creative when it comes to access
).
Can you not watch BBC iplayer? Just curious.
BBC iplayer does not work in the US.
I had forgotten that I'd have to wait longer than the UK and that everyone on the forum will have seen and talked about the series before I can. Enormous frownie-face of despair

I'm sorry, Mysteria, did you say something? I couldn't hear you over BENEDICT'S AMAZING FACE.
(P.S. I stole it and avatarred it...is that ok?)
Benedict's Non-Sherlock Work » Star Trek (spoilers - for those who've seen it already) » June 16, 2013 7:11 pm |
I agree with *everything* you said Bohemia! I was also born in the 80s to a family of Star Trek fans (I prefer that term too, I don't think I qualify as a full-blown trekkie), and ST 4: The One With The Whales was also one of my favorite movies as a kid!
One of my biggest issues with the film is the opening sequence/story. Spock gets all hot and bothered about the prime directive when Kirk wants to rescue him--but aren't they already violating it by tampering with the volcano in the first place? That wasn't their mission, it was just to survey the planet.
The female characters are abysmal in this series. I can't even talk about how inappropriate the Uhura/Spock thing is in this one. They act like they're in high school.
I think if it wasn't for Benedict I would have been altogether angry about this movie. But he is like a beacon in the darkness...or, you know, the actual darkness, as he said in one interview ...and his amazing hair more than makes up for the rest of the movie's sins.

Not to be negative about it, I really did enjoy it, but as a super geeky trekkie, I did think there were some plot holes. For one thing, WHY ON EARTH WOULD HE SMUGGLE HIS CREW INSIDE TORPEDOS? What exactly was the plan there? Seems more than a teensy bit dangerous.
Maybe that was the best- okay let's say 'only' way to hide his crew. I wasn't even trying to get the plot in detail but... umm... I'm sure he had his reasons
Khan designed the huge Starship that he later crashed in. That ship could be piloted by a single perosn, if necessary. It seems to me that he designed it for himself, that he was planning to steal it after the new torpedoes he also designed were loaded aboard. Khan then has the only "Dreadnought class" Starship, (I'm assuming he would have destroyed all copies of his plans so they couldn't build another, besides bombing the facility out of existence.) his crew of 72 and his advanced weaponry.
What would he do, then? Maybe simply escape and look for a home for himself and his people. Possibly make war on folks, but that is unclear in the new timeline. But he was discovered before he could complete his mission..
Admiral Marcus was the real villain. ^^^That's my hero.
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Wow, this makes so much more sense now. I feel so much better.
I was soooooo hoping they would find some way of not making him into a black-and-white villain. I thought maybe once he explained his story to Kirk and Spock, and then he helped them get onto the ship, maaaaybe they were going to make him ambiguous and anti-hero-ish rather than pure evil. He did have reasons for everything bad that he did - so he's got a bit of a temper, big deal. Speaking of which, if I were Spock I think I probably wouldn't have let him believe I killed his entire crew, given that he had *just* explained that that was

Can we talk about how sexy it was when Kirk was hitting him and he was just standing there? Is that wrong, that I was turned on by that? And by the part where he asks Kirk if he wants to hit him "over and over..." Alright, I'm going to go seek professional help.I think it's a convenient moment to tell you that I sat there chuckling in my seat when Khan was taking over the ship and hitting Kirk to the ground. God, I love that bit. I'm going to play that scene over and over again as soon as I've got the DVD.
Noo, there's nothing wrong with us. All of Khan's actions were incredibly sexy and awesome and gorgeous and adorable and...

Hahaha, I don't know about adorable, but definitely all those other things
I'm really appreciating this video on the Youtubes:
All of Khan's velvet-voiced emotionally gooey goodness packed into one scene. He looks absolutely beautiful. Also, I would like to "exploit his savagery" if you know what I mean.
