I stole this from Tumblr:

"The difference between Sherlock and other television shows is I turn the volume down for other shows’ themes, but I turn the volume up for Sherlock’s.”

Accurate accurate accurate.

well, I think Seb is a guy who likes pretending, being jovial and easy-going. kind of a City professional, cold-hearted, rich and without real friends (but pretending everyone is his friend). it seems to me that Seb is trying to show John that he and Sherlock were something like friends at the uni /maybe he´s surprised that Sherlock calls John his friend/, but I don´t think they actually were. they can have some breakfasts together, but Sherlock was too annoying and unfriendly to all. but it was maybe his intelect and oddity that made people around him want to be, or pretend to have been, his friends. just my uncomplete opinion.
btw - are there any ideas which university or department did Sherlock attend? I´d say chemistry or something like that

I always like to think Sherlock went to Oxford or Cambridge, but I don't think he did in this series.

When Sebastian, in the bathroom, describes Van Coon as a "very bright guy" who went to Oxford, it seems as though he is saying Oxford in reverence, like some say "Harvard." If he had went also went to Oxford, he would have said so.Same if he had went to Cambridge.

I'm sure Sherlock went to a very pretigous university!

The Blind Banker » Sebastian/Seb » February 24, 2013 6:17 pm

In the bathroom scene, after Sherlock and John interrupt Sebastian's lunch meeting, Sherlock is explaining his theory to Sebastian. Sebastian disagrees and Sherlock says, "Seb!"

"SEB!"? A nickname. Sherlock called Sebastian by his nickname. They wErE university friends and the use of a nickname seems to indicate intimacy at a friendship level.

I believe they were friends at one point, and close friends. It DID seem awkward between them so I guess they may have fallen out somehow, which also explains the seven/eight years of not seeing each other (even though they were in the same city).

I don't think we're finished seeing Sebastian "Seb".

What do you think? Do you think a nickname is conclusive proof that they were friends at one point?

Also, do we know his last name?

Thanks everyone! You're all so nice.

I love this forum. I know I'm not alone in my desperate love of Sherlockl Holmes, Benedict, and mind games.

In ACD canon, Sherlock and John work together for two decades until they are old. I would LOVE if Benedict and Martin filmed Sherlock seasons throughout the next ten or fifteen years; it doesn't even matter if they are older because theyre supposed to be.

Sherlocked forever.

A Study In Pink » "He's just a lunatic and he'll always let you down." » February 4, 2013 9:40 pm

After the police and Sherlock track the pink phone to 221B, Donovan says,"We're wasting out time, all our time. He's just a lunatic and he'll always let you down."

"Let you down"? Has Sherlock failed before? I know he does not solve all of his cases, but from Donovan's words it sounds as though Sherlock tried to help to the police before and did not succeed. But, that would contradict Lestrade's praise to Sherlock ("Sherlock Holmes is a great man..") because Lestrade is the one that needs help with cases.

I like to think that Sherlock is infallible but we know that's not true..

Thoughts?

Irene also wears Sherlock's coat with the collar up, like Sherlock does.

One thing I think John will say is,"Look! I even got a bulldog to replace you! He's as hard-headed and lazy as you were!"

Those are good ones!

I really like the idea of Sherlock and Irene being mirrors; they're identical in almost everyway and yet complete opposites. I love the idea of their being together, whether in a normal way or a more likely very messed up fashion,  and I think there's a lot of support in the episodes that they are a viable couple.

Whether they end up together or not, it's really interesting to draw parallels between them.

Hello! My name is Kelly.

I currently reside in the United States and I plan on studying and living in England in the future.
Like many others, I found Sherlock one afternoon and obsessively watched the series in two days.
I love to read (Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorites), play tennis, run, draw, play viola, drink tea, and solve puzzles.
I have always loved England; I went last summer.
I intern with Fashion Week even though I don't plan to pursue fashion or modeling as a career. I actually hope to work for an intelligence agency/government, like Mycroft!
I can move my ears!
I'm very in love with Benedict/Sherlock because he's extremely hot and intelligent.
I love all areas of academic study, especially history and English, and I have a knack for langauges!

Sherlock has both saved and ruined my life but I wouldn't trade my love for the show for anything else.
Everything about the show is captivating, mesmerizing, and phenomenal and I have made the soundtrack the music to my life.

SHERLOCKED FOR SURE.

Kelly

I'm really excited to be here and take part in discussions. There aren't many people in my area who watch Sherlock, even my school is dearth of fans, and it's really great to be in a place where others love something just as much as you. I'd love to make friends!

I was introduced to Sherlock on December 31 last year and from that day until now I have been obsessed. The characters portrayals are amazing, the costumes fantastic, and the music incredible.

I heard that they film season 3 in march and I'm really happy because that's my birthday month and there's no better birthday present than the promise of a new season of Sherlock.

Thank you!

OOPS!  I messed uo the last post.  Anyway, welcome! Where in the USA are you from?

Thanks! I'm from the East coast, specifically Pennsylvania.
I see that you're from Utah, which is so cool because from the pictures I've seen it's seems absolutely breathtaking!

Character Analysis » Sherlock/Irene Parallels » January 22, 2013 6:47 pm

I posted this on the "A Scandal in Belgravia" page but I think it's better here!

I noticed many parallels between Sherlock and Irene. Some of their similar actions foreshadow the events to come later in the episode.

My list:

1. Sherlock looks through her photographs; she looks through his.
HOWEVER, he only looks through her photos once and she scrolls back to the first photo of him. This difference illusrates her interest in him.

2. At one point in the episode, both Irene and Sherlock are naked.

3. Both change wardrobe, or at least try to, struggle with a costume, and say the word "battle."

4. Both "need a splash of color." Sherlock gets punched and bleeds; Irene wears blood red lipstick.

5. Both play "the game." Sherlock devotes himself to the demanding and distracting qualities of the game and Irene does the same, except from the troublemaking side.

6. Some superficial similarities: They have similar appearances, vocabularies, taste in expensice wardrobe, and the same blank stare.

Those are the parallels that I found; does anyone see any others?

I agree with the others that Sherlock was fascinated by her because she was so much like him, and THAT's why he was so upset. She was a mirror of him, identical in ability and skill, but she died and failed, something Sherlock never considers possible for him. Because she, someone of Sherlock's caliber, met her downfall, he was greatly disturbed that that could happen to someone of such ability, to someone like him.

I definitely think he reassessed himself by her death because he realized he could die, he could fail, and it struck him to the core because he has always been an immovable and unbeatable person.

The Blind Banker » The graffiti eye in the last scene? » January 22, 2013 5:50 pm

In the last scene of "The Blind Banker" where Sherlock and John are having breakfast, John looks out the window and sees a female street artist spray painting an eye onto a box.

I've been wondering what the significance of the eye is because all of the details of the show are really important.

Maybe it symbolizes Morirarty's omniscient presence? Maybe it is a symbol of Sherlock's perception and clarity? Maybe it's a threat? A warning?

What could the graffiti eye mean?
