I am SOOOO glad this came up!  I've been wanting to ask.  Is it 'safe' for a Yank to drink tap water in England (anywhere from London to Dover to Cornwall)?  Sometimes, when you go to a new location, there are different (but perfectly acceptable) bacteria in the water that can cause stomach distress.  If you're MOVING to the location, you just go through the process of acclimating your body to it, but if you're just visiting, it might not be worth the trouble.  I'm under the impression this is true of some places...but not all?  Thoughts/experiences?  I drink a LOT of water (or try to) and I prefer to just fill a portable container from a tap or drinking fountain.

yk, there is something very rootless about John. I've wondered if he was orphaned/ abandoned pretty young.

May I just say, the way this series absolutely CRAMS you with wondering about the characters' psyches and backstories is what makes it such a stupendous show.

Forgot to add, please briefly explain reason for 'class'-ification.

Speaking of class, how would you class the following characters based on the new system (or a more pertinent system, if you prefer, but please explain it to the non-Brits):

Sherlock
John
Lestrade
Molly
Mrs. Hudson

This tempts me...but I can think of a major drawback.  I won't be able to loan my DVDs to friends and neighbors, most of whom have (U.S.) blue-ray players.

Need to ask a clarifying question.  Commercially produced, USA-compatible DVDs (with extras and all) will NOT be available to purchase until after Series 3 has aired in the USA, right?

All you others who write fanfic, how about some links?  If you're comfortable sharing.  No pressure.

Is he really a virgin, though?

I'm going with yes, he is.  It's a powerful choice as a distinguishing characteristic because so few unmarried people remain virgins after...what...20?

There was an article today where Martin was complaining they had to do some outdoors right now - even during the night. So he wasn't really looking forward to it.

Still pretty treacherous, wintry conditions in the UK, I hear.  Or do they perhaps do all the interior work first and then move outdoors?  Of course, they do one episode at a time, right? (But not necessarily in order). So it would have to be in, out, in, out, in, out...

You know what I mean!

So much anger in this sequence!  Sherlock comes to the palace in a sheet and calls his brother a queen.  Mycroft publicly reveals and sneers at his virginity.  Mercy!

Doesn't it pretty much HAVE to be Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara, or Kate? Please correct/redirect me if I'm wrong. Also, feel free to comment EXTENSIVELY on how the British audience might have been expected to react to such an insinuation. Seems a little bold ('pushing the envelope') to me.

1891 - 1894?  Yeah, that's right, I'm getting my canon on!  Think I have my bookgroup convinced to start reading some Doyle this summer.

I'm sure that after season 2 was finished, they broke everything down into its pieces and stuck it in a storage unit somewhere (all the furniture too), and now it's being reassembled on a sound stage again.

THAT's the part I was wondering about!  I thought they were starting from scratch, as if they'd recycled the materials for another production due to lack of storage space or something.

Hey, what's up with that? [Please redirect me if this is being discussed in another thread.]  Why do they have to rebuild 221B?  Didn't they keep the set from series 2?

That was a joke in the pilot, right?  A reference to the title?  A study in pink?  Because the flat is where John and Sherlock do their thinking and writing, like a boarding school study?
