Sorry to hear that, besleybean!  Hopefully, the doctors caught it in time.

And I'm definitely sorry to hear about the death of Una Stubbs.  Her death is officially the death knell of any chance that Moffat and Gatiss might have ever produced another season or special.  That can't be done now, not without Mrs. Hudson; they've waited too long.  And no one else can take over the role on that series.  If Moffat and Gatiss haven't yet done so, they will have to announce its cancellation.

You know, I'd be curious to know where Sherlock purchases his suits!  A tailor on Savile Row, perhaps?

Not the more expensive one, since it's a cheap imitation he bought in Afghanistan.  Sherlock's, on the other hand, is!  Thanks for the info!  Unless more reliable information comes our way telling us otherwise, we'll just have to assume that what you found on the Internet is correct.

Hey, if you buy yourself a new expensive watch, can I have one, too? =)

I should like to know what brands they were.  To my knowledge, Sherlock wore the same watch until the end of the TV series, and it was doubtless a very expensive brand, but John wore 2 watches in the course of the show: the first one, from the first season through the 3rd season, and the second watch during the fourth.  I read that the first watch was a knock-off (a cheap imitation of a watch brand) that he purchased in Afghanistan; what I'd like to know is what the brand is, that the watch is an imitation of?  And what is the second watch's brand?  Another knock-off, or a cheap brand such as one would buy at Wal-Mart here in America?

As for Sherlock--well, suffice it to say that his is no knock-off! =)  Nor would it have been bought at Great Britain's version of a Wal-Mart.  Without a doubt, it was quite expensive.  I should like to know what brand that watch was, too.

Well, at least you tried!  Thanks.  I have a reason for asking: I'm plotting out a post-TFP fanfiction story that will include information about John's past, including his military past.  I want him to be at Camp Bastion for starters, then Camp Dwyer in Kandahar, and then another British base when they return to Helmand.  To that end, I need to know if there was any other place in Helmand besides Camp Bastion where the Fusiliers could have been stationed, including John and Bill Murray.

Well, I guess the BBC Sherlock Fan Forum is officially dead; it may as well be taken down.  There was a time when I could have posted a question like the one above and gotten a quick answer, but those days, it seems, are over.

I have a question for those of you who are British.  From 2006 through 2009, in addition to Camp Bastion, what British army bases were stationed in the Helmand Province, and which of those bases had their own field hospitals?  I've tried to find out what I want to know by looking it up on the Internet, but without much success.  (I need to know this for a fanfiction story I'm in the process of developing.  Thanks!)

The crossover sounds fun ...would love to see Benedict playing opposite Benedict!

Yeah, no kidding! =)  And Martin Freeman playing alongside Martin Freeman. <g>

Whereas, the New Zealanders (and I'm guessing the British?) pronounce it as "Smowg"! =)

You know, I think that someone really ought to write a Sherlock/Hobbit crossover in which Sherlock and John get sent to Middle-earth!  It would be most amusing to watch Sherlock attempt to take on Smaug, to see him deduce that dragon. LOL! =)

Well, hey, that's how we Americans pronounce the "au" diphthong! =)

That might be the way the British, and the New Zealanders, pronounce the name, as opposed to Americans.

Yes, Holmes plays Watson to sleep, and Watson dreams about Mary Morstan while he's sleeping.

I don't know Chelmsford at all.  I have been in that part of the world and may well have visited, but if I have, I've forgotten it!  If none of us have insider knowledge, this might be a fun place to start with your research.  http://dclgapps.communities.gov.uk/imd/idmap.html  It's an interactive of map showing deprivation indices (you can look at multiple indicators, or pick out individual ones such as crime or employment).   You can search for Chelmsford and have a look at the areas which are lower on the scale.  Chelmsford itself is quite high up (i.e. in the 30% least deprived areas).  It might give you a starting point!

Another possibility is school performance.   The schools in the more deprived areas are likely to do less well, although obviously this is not a given, but it might give a bit of a clue.   You could also look at house prices.  And have a bit of a wander on google maps.  Good luck!

Cheaper house prices in the more economically deprived areas, right?

Thank you!  I've just bookmarked it for future reference.  Maybe it'll tell me what I'm seeking to know.  (Hopefully!)  [crosses fingers]

OK, tell your friend thanks for the info!

However, one thing puzzles me.  I was asking about Chelmsford, in Essex, and your friend was talking about a place called Colchester.  Is that a location somewhere within Chelmsford, or another town altogether?

Someone really ought to write a fanfiction crossover about Sherlock and John going to Middle-earth to meet Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarves.  I would just love to witness Sherlock deducing Smaug! =)
