I just read this yesterday and really liked it.  Lots of lovely feels.

Sorry to have been away so long, guys. I've struggled for a while with my feelings after S4.  But I'm back and hoping to regain my enthusiasm.  Some good Johnlock fan fic might just do the trick. And it really helped to meet up with tobe in London a few weeks ago and talk it all out.  I've missed being here.....

Sorry, very late to the party here and too busy to have read this whole thread. Apologies if this has been discussed; but should we 'forgive' John for compromising his marriage vows by flirting with Euros posing as Elizabeth/bus stop lady. It seems Eurus is able to manipulate/ mind control people to do her bidding.  Should we see John as just another victim like the Governor at Sherrinford and realize he could not help himself even if he had wanted to?  Therefore guiltless?

I know they had to be "soldiers" in this scene to survive, but I would have liked just a bit more emotion from John.  I would have liked him to crouch down to be face-to-face with Sherlock, touch his shoulder (anything), and talk him more 'intimately' to bring him back to the task at hand.  Seeing where their relationship was at the end of TLD, I was looking for a bit more bed-side -manner from our doctor rather than 'soldier' mode at that moment; but, oh well, John did offer his hand to raise Sherlock up in a different way than he offered his hand in TLD, so I'll live with that.

I am seconding all the emotions I'm seeing expressed here.  This Forum has been a life line when I first discovered it in 2012.  I'm not all that tech savvy but I always knew that if there was something on "Sherlock" out there on the internet it would be found here and save me the search.  Information was never missed by all our ingenious Sherlock fans.

And the friends I've made because of the show and the Forum!  I have no words.  What an awesome group! What fun this has been - and will continue to be. The games is never over.

I really like the idea of 'The Sussex Vampire' and hadn't thought of that! I can definitely see Eurus as the poisoner.  As a child I can see her acting all sweet and adorable but inside she is psychopathic. I can see her poisoning Redbeard until he has to be put down (psychopaths often start by torturing animals) and then attempting to poison Sherlock so that he almost dies.  Maybe she doesn't even hate
him or is jealous of him. Maybe she just can't contain her urges. Hence the decision is to be made to lock her away. Mycroft as the older brother has tried to protect Sherlock ever since, teaching him to repress all emotion and caring.  All of this happens to Sherlock when he is so young that he barely remembers anything.  But even more ironically, maybe because he has all these repressed memories and emotions, he later turns to poisoning himself - only with drugs.

Oh dear, I'm dying to find out the real story but, at the same time, I don't want the series to end. What  dilemma!

The Lying Detective » Mycroft/The Queen = a serial killer » January 13, 2017 10:47 pm

I'm not sure Sherlock remembers much, if anything, about his sister.  I think something traumatic happened when they were children (remember the Redbeard scene and the two children playing pirate?).  I get the feeling they were very close but something terrible occurred that sent Eurus away and that traumatized Sherlock horribly.  Mycroft may or may not have had a role in this but I think Mycroft has spent his life trying to protect his brother from this event, teaching him to suppress and forget his feelings and that caring is never an advantage.  Mycroft won't turn out to be a serial killer or villain or be killed in TFP. At worst he is a misguided older brother who thinks his iceman ways are best for hi brother; but I think we will see the depth of love that Mycroft has for Sherlock (and visa versa) in this episode.  That's my hope anyway. Sadly, I'm hardly ever correct, LOL.

Oh, ewige, you are such a tease with your spoiler.  I had to look LOL.

I love this thread.  The hug gif makes me weak and giddy. Like everyone else, I watch it way too much.

While it would be awesome to see Johnlock confirmed at the end of TFP (my screams of joy would fill the universe and my husband would probably end up driving me to the nearest psych clinic for hyper-euphoria), I will accept ambiguity over TPTB dashing all our hopes. I have always enjoyed the tease, the fun of finding hints, the various interpretations people have, the debates and discussions.  I think I would really miss that.

I am starting to get heart palpitations and hyperventilate thinking about what this last show could mean to all of us. I'm sad and excited all at the same time.  Please Moftiss don't dash our hopes and please let there be a Series 5!

I don't think she is shooting at John. If she's Sherlock's crazy (twin) sister (because sometimes it is twins) she just may be seeing someone in her mind who is making a face at her so she shoots it the way Sherlock shoots the wall or the way he shot CAM in the face.  See, it runs in the family, LOL.

From your mouth to God's ear!  The last episode seemed to point us down the "straight" path but this show is famous for rug-pulls and reveals.  90 minutes still to go! It can happen! :-)

Hudders pulled a gun on Sherlock, handcuffed him and tossed him in the boot of her car to drag him back to John.

This will give me joy to the end of my days.

Me, too! I loved the "rug pull" when the red car zoomed up at the therapist's.  First we think it's got to be Sherlock; but it's not till later that the reveal is Hudders! OMG, I screamed out loud with joy.  Then when she opened the boot to reveal Sherlock - another scream of joy!  Then the fabulous choreography of the tea cup/gun exchange and the handcuff remarks. Finally, deep into the show she passes the keys to the car toJohn so he can go rescue Sherlock after she said he couldn't drive it. Just a fantastic series of reveals that deserves some kind of an award, IMO.

The Lying Detective » Henry Howard Holmes (H.H. Holmes) was a real serial killer. » January 9, 2017 7:28 pm

Coincidentally, I am in the middle of reading a book called "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson considered one of the definitive books about this real life serial killer, H.H. Holmes.  Loved that I knew the reference when it came up in the show.  Made me feel smart - LOL!

It could be the highly capable goldfish angle.  I do like Lady Smallwood and don't see her as a potential threat in the next episode.  But Mycroft's hesitation to pick up her card with the number before finally doing so was so like John with bus lady note.  Now wondering if it is all that it seems on the surface.....

While my head canon prefers to picture Mycroft as perpetually "alone" or perhaps gay, and I really wanted to see him walk out the door without going back for the number, I do think it would be quite a lovely match should it happen. .  Both the Holmes boys are learning to care it seems.

Glad I looked at this thread because it did seem to me (on first viewing last night) that the writers were really pushing hetero-normal relationships for EVERYONE - including Mycroft, ugh.

And as far as Johnlock goes, I saw amazing, self-sacrificing love here (like never before - except maybe in TSoT) but no homo-eroticism hints I often felt in other episodes

But this thread has talked me off the ledge and I'm back on Johnlock 'terra firma'.  Thank goodness!  I agree wholeheartedly about the text conversation. That interpretation makes so much sense now.

But, you know what I would have loved to see in Sherlock's beautiful, enfolding embrace? It would have been so lovely if he had gently kissed John's hair while holding him in his arms. I would have melted onto the floor - not that I hadn't already. LOL. So happy with what we did get though.

I've been telling Tobe that my wishful thinking head canon is that the tag-on "real" final problem in TFP is what to do about Rosie so that she doesn't have to die.

My head canon wants John (after they go through hell and back) to come to the realization that he is addicted to the danger and excitement of being with Sherlock - and to Sherlock himself (with some ambiguous Johnlock hints thrown in so that we can discuss and debate this for years to come, lol). He also realizes that he cannot bring up Rosie in that environment.  Enter a cleaned-up Auntie Harriet (finally) who is reconciled with Clara and they take Rosie so she is still in the Watson family.

Like I said, wishful thinking.  The Moftiss will never do anything that predictable and kind.

I was suspicious of Mary, too until this episode.  There are, and probably still are, those who think she might have been one of Moriarty's assassins at the pool; but now I really think she did want to  leave her past behind and attempt a 'normal' life with John.  There still could be a twist on this in the end but I no longer think so.  Now her message tells us she is desperate to "Save John Watson" from something. She gives this to Sherlock as a mission/case. She doesn't say, "Take care of John for me after I'm gone". She doesn't even mention Rosie, so baby must not have even been in the picture when she made the recording. No, she knows something (from her before-life) and knows John needs to be saved from something real and dangerous - not just his own folly or stubbornness.  And of course, there are those already pointing out that "Hell" is a real place in Norway; and I can also add there is a town called "Hell" in the Grand Caymans because I've been there.

And John in the well.

When I saw that scene in the trailer all I could think of was the old nursery rhyme, "Ding, Dong, Dell, Pussy's in the Well".  And now all I can think about is that John has to go down into the well to try to save something/someone - Rosie? Difficult to even contemplate that.

Someone is still trying to burn the heart out of Sherlock.  John and everyone else Sherlock loves are still very much in danger and need to be "saved". If Moriarty set all this in motion before he died, this is a diabolical long game indeed.
