Well, in a universe where people apparently can will themselves back from death, I'm quite happy to believe that someone can survive a liver injury.

It may sound like a bit of a crossover, but perhaps there could be an episode where a countryside village is suddenly getting a number of reports of missing children. Their parents say their children went to play in the forest nearby, but never returned.

Now, this is where it might start to sound ridiculous, but some witnesses claim they saw a creature much like Slenderman (I don't know if I'll run into copyright issues if I actually use Slenderman, but perhaps it would be easier to use a different name and create a supernatural creature similar to Slendy) during the night and believe he has taken the children to become his "proxies". This creature is famous as the village's oldest myth and it is infamous for its history of missing children who have never returned.

I was also thinking of adding a girl who murdered her friend in the forest because of her obsession with the myth. This would loosely based on that story about those two 12-year-olds who attempted to stab their friend to become Slenderman's "proxies". To make this a little more "strange", maybe their is hardly any Police records of murder, but a lot of missing people (kind of like what Hot Fuzz used with its high reports of "accidents") They find the murdered body with the note that reads CAN'T RUN. They'll discover other notes later on.

Looks like quite a plot already. Some wonderful twists and twist potentials.  I hope you're still reading this, I'm trying to think along so bear with me.

I don't know about the story that's in your head but the way you've written it down hear I'd say you'll run into problems with your character motivations. A twelve year old girl would need a very strong motivation to kill someone. Also, writing 'can't run' somwhere is a very strange thing to do if one is trapped. You could write a number of things (mum, I love you, the name of the killer etc.) that would make more sense.Â

Hahaha, that's classic!

But it's fun to try and predict and since Moftiss are so unpredictable, 99% of our guesses will probably be wrong anyway.

Yeah, I suppose a lot of what we said in that thread has gotten buried because everyone was so excited to share their first thoughts.

Where's the scarlet rollmops? In the notebook as well?

Red Herring: sounds exactly like something the Moftiss would do.

I don't really know a lot about references in music either. I remember that when a piece refers to another piece, they tend to use the same key and/or the same chords, or sometimes the same instrument. I don't know whether they are in the same key, but if one is major and the other is minor, I'd say there probably isn't a link.

I'm also not sure why David Arnold and Michael Price would include such a link since there's no obvious connection in the plot. There's a shooting bride, yes, but Amelia's motive is completely different from Mary's and the story is quite different too.

I did notice another link though: 'Do not forget me' and 'Did you miss me?'

I missed any prison connection. Have to watch again.

Thanks Susi, I didn't know about Serbia, I thought it only formed after the fall of Yugoslavia. But indeed still an odd reference for Watson to make. 'Sounds French' would have made more sense.

The shaking: yeah, that's when I knew we weren't in reality. Also really neat how the sound changes into the sound of the plane.

I've got another one, not related to the mind palace twist but to the case: Sir Eustache's fainting when he sees the bride. Fainting under stress was a bit of a trope in ACD's stories but IRL people don't faint when they are under stress (unless you suffer from nacolepsy or something). In fact, we get a shot of adrenaline and quite the opposite of fainting happens. So him fainting is a clue that Lady Carmichael isn't a reliable narrator!

Nice article, Swanpride, that's also really how I felt about it but you said it a million times better.

Does it have to look and feel like a Sherlock episode? You could have chosen an easier show.

If so, I'd say that my main worry is that the plot isn't high concept enough. Most of the Sherlock episode have a conceptual element (CAM, Moriarty's robbery in RBF, the signs in TBB, the serial suicide in ASIP). Your plot sounds more like an ordinary crime drama, nothing wrong with that in itself, but Sherlock would need a bit more.

I love this thread. I think the biggest clue was that Holmes talks about the case before Lestrade walks in, so he couldn't really have done that.

I think most clues I saw, you already covered but I've got one more:

When Mycroft talks about paranoia, Watson says: 'sounds Serbian.' Serbia didn't exist at that time.

And did you guys get: 'the virus in the data?'

I find it difficult to rank them because I like them for different reasons. TAB is definately in the top, though. I just love the intricate plotting, the twist (those lying liars ), foreshadowing, Moriarty, caring Mycroft etc.

Didn't Mary also wear a different red coat? I don't know, I think it's just continuity errors, I still have trouble getting over Mycroft's disappearing gloves at the end of HLV. How could no one have spotted that?

Mary working for Mycroft: I think they just loved the idea that there would be another Holmes and Watson duo.

Yeah but surely a survival mechanism is something worth keeping. Not push off a cliff.

I'd really hate seeing Janine as the new villain. I think she was a nice person. She doesn't like Sherlock but he's properly wronged her and he knows it. I'm just hoping for a new character, hopefully just as intriguing and creepy as CAM. Canon is full of great villains, Gruner is still one of my favorites but there are plenty of other great ones too.

On a slightly related note, I'm curious if anyone shares this sentiment: what I really didn't buy was Mind Palace Moriarty as a virus. He doesn't do anything virus-like, instead he helps Sherlock back to reality, reminds him why he's on the case. Then the second time, when Sherlock is back into the Mind Palace, he pulls him out again. If his actions are anything to go by, it's Sherlock's survival mechanism.

I thought I'd remembered him saying cherchez, but I thought I misremembered because he was addressing Sherlock, that's why I wrote cherche. It's probably just a mistake, French declinations aren't so easy for us foreigners.
