Yes, calling Sheringford! Omg!

My mind is a mess. I feel horrible for all of them. I think there was too little Sherlock and John in this episode in general. And I'm talking friends. John seemed distant, as he was too caught up in his own problems and his own life - which was separate from Sherlock's.

In a way, I felt Mary played too big a part. Then again, I am fine with it seeing as she's dead now. I wanted that to happen, but darn, it was painful when it happened. (Probably the scene Martin shot alone?) But I want more John, I want to understand how he can fault Sherlock for this as much as he does.

It's just grief and anger talking. He'll calm down and realise Sherlock wasn't to blame. People react differently when faced with grief. Sherlock promised he would always protect Mary, and John has ALWAYS trusted Sherlock.

I had a question - did it start just after Sherlock got off the plane?  And they said he was "clean"?  So TAB wasn't drug-induced?  Or was it meant to take place later?

I think they came directly from the plane and Sherlock said he was fine but acted really high.

Sherlock claimed he was clean but was acting totally hyper and off his face. It was pretty funny. He was clearly high on more than just a case.

Well, at the end of the day, yes, Sherlock provoked her, and therefore it was HIM she decided to shoot. That bullet was coming straight for him and Mary was the one who jumped in front of it.

John is mad right now because that's his initial reaction in the wake of grief. He will cool down and realise that this wasn't Sherlock's fault. No one asked her to jump in front of that bullet.

I like the touch with Norbury though. As a canon fan, as soon as I heard her surname was actually Norbury I thought "OH SHIT this is gonna end badly". He will always blame himself, because he got too arrogant, made one too many personal deductions that were really unnecessary to the point he was trying to make, and pushed her too far. She was willing to walk away if they'd let her but, to be fair, they wouldn't have let her anyway. Mary was already stepping forward going "after what you've done" and Sherlock was having to calm HER down. I think, between the two of them, they would have pushed her to the edge and she would have snapped and shot either one of them. When John realises this he will calm down and him and Sherlock will be cool again.

Now that I've said all that, just wanted to comment on the episode as a whole.

I 100% did NOT expect to be ugly sobbing over Mary's death like I was for the last 20 minutes of the episode. I hated her at the end of Series 3 and yet I was SO upset. That is what you call great writing.

This episode was absolutely amazing. Series 3, you are totally forgiven.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

New sections have now been set up for Series 4. You're unable to post in them just yet, but they will be opened up immediately after each individual episode finishes airing in the UK.

Who came up with these questions that Liberty is doing so well answering? They're definitely loaded questions on the Johnlock side. I'm sure you could think of some equally loaded non-Johnlock questions if you were arguing for the other side...or questions for any other ship.

To paraphrase the master, people twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.

Remember the ending of Study In Pink, where Sherlock and John walk off into the distance together as the credits roll and the music starts to play, giving each other that little happy smirk as if they're both thinking "yep, this is the guy I wanna hang out with"? Well...that's how I imagine S4 ending too.

Mark and Steven were still trotting out that old line at Sherlocked about how they could feasibly make this until Sherlock and John were old and grey and retired together. It's only the recent statement by Benedict that seems to have thrown things awry. I think the BBC would certainly recommission S5, 6, 7 and more as long as it keeps getting the many millions of viewers that it does. As far as I can see it's dependent upon the actors, and whilst it's clear that they both enjoy making Sherlock, they are both extremely busy and might not be able to make the time for it.

We might end up seeing Sherlock every 4 or 5 years instead of every 3.

Agreed. However, I feel this thread is a minefield where we all have to weigh our words very carefully before posting because it takes very little before someone (myself included) gets offended or feel disrespected.

Perhaps all of us (again: myself included) could try to get a "thicker skin", so to speak? And still, of course, all do our best to word our posts in a way that doesn't include sarcasm, exaggerations, rudeness or other types of bad debate techniques and fallacies.

The very essence of a 'debate' means that some heated words might be said now and again, because there's going to be two sides of an argument that people feel strongly about. I want people to be able to give their opinions, but at the same time, you understand I need to take some kind of steps/reaction if I get people lodging complaints about the tone of this thread.

Hi guys, sorry to get off topic again, but if I get another report about this thread and how people feel personally insulted, victimised, picked on, ignored/not listened to, opinions trampled on, disrespected etc, I will seriously consider closing this entire thread.

If you have a problem with someone or something they've said, PM them. If someone PMs you, ANSWER IT. It's impolite to ignore it. They PMd you for reason - because they want to keep it off the thread. Extend the same courtesy.

If the mods post a warning, don't just ignore it. Acknowledge it, and respect what they're saying. I will be choosing two more moderators over the next few days to lend support to the current staff, as a couple of the other mods can't get online very often.

Thanks guys and stay happy.

I always thought the 'cocaine' described in the canon sounded much more like heroin to me, tbqh. Cocaine brings you up and makes you active and alert, it doesn't send you into a doped up stupor.

Tbh, I am not quite sure what belongs in which thread. I think we could use the other one for everything comes up now during the actual filming. So your post would have to go there as well, I think. I am a bit confused.

But I will put a spoiler warning on this here as well.

Thanks, Susi!
And I agree, the other thread is called "Setlock" after all, so everything that comes up during filming definitely belongs there, I'd say.

Yeah, I just got pretty confused between these two threads as well. Thinking of closing this one to avoid confusion, but obviously leave it up so people can see what has already been posted?
