Sherlock starts in early 2016, filming in January says the newspaper I read.

The filming of Sherlock will start in January, from what I have heard.

So series four in January 2017 I guess. God, that's not getting better. And we're not getting any younger.

Yeah, at least we have a time frame. Although I thought series 4 was airing in 2016, not filming. I guess I misunderstood or got my hopes up a little too much.

Yes, I'm glad that at least we'll be getting the special between then and now, or else it would be a long time without any Sherlock. I remember in The Hound of the Baskervilles book Holmes says that part of the case is a waiting game. That's what's happening now for us.

Filming will start in spring, it wouldn't be such a such a stretch to imagine we'd get it in late 2016...a thousand years away...

I'm pretty sure that they will try to stick to their "rhythm" (well, with a one year delay...) and we'll get series 4 at the beginning of 2017.

Does anyone know how long it generally takes them to start filming and release a new season? I mean if they start filming in spring could it be possible that we get them withinn 2016?

Tbh, I am a bit surprised that people are surprised about the date. Hamlet until the end of October, Dr Strange filming from November, Christmas holidays, probably finishing filming on Dr Strange in January. How were they going to start any earlier?

I did not know the time frame of the other things Benedict will be doing, so that's one reason. It makes sense when you bring those things in and know when those will be going on and for how long.
