Hey guys!!
Still just lurking here and there... enjoy seeing your posts and all you good old regulars, but hardly know what want to say back most the time, and just quickly check-in on websites between distractions.  Namely work and other projects and actually checking into finally getting a cochlear implant!

But!  I thought of you and wanted to share something beautiful, too!  I didn't see any chatter on the last BAFTAs... maybe because while there was some great stuff in (and probably many personal favorites), nothing from anyone we were all "invested" in?  But from this thread, I know some of you have a soft spot like me for the strange, differently beautiful, fairytale of Shape of Water, and... did you know that Cirque du Soleil got to open the evening with a performance, and then later also do a tribute to the movie?  It's gorgeous... if you haven't come across it yet, check it out!

When I heard that line at the end of the film, I thought of the water all around the two of them, not just the amphibian man himself. I guess because water can kind of represent love and their relationship in particular. It got be thinking about the title of the film itself, too. Water doesn't have just one shape, and neither does love.

Exactly.  Hence loving that quote, and thinking it was the perfect choice to have him saying that, timed with the last image on the screen being this huge beautiful slightly dark expanse of water surrounding the pair that were just saved by love.

Lol... yes!     My first reaction was 'oh, man, that super hot shot of him... how he always manages to do that...' then, 'wait... wait a second... wasn't that the skit thing with the toilet??'

What?  It didn't, really??  Sheesh....  although making Oldman disappear into Churchill was impressive.
Aww, and hi tonnaree!  Yes, yes it is a fairy tale, isn't it?
Giles even calls her a princess.  My favorite quote ever, his thoughtful/gentle, heartfelt words at the end (shown, no less, with the pair floating in water, perfect ending shot) --

Giles: If I tell you about her, what would I say? That she'll live happily ever after? I believe she will. That she is in love? That she'll remain in love? I'm sure that's true. But when I think of her, the only thing that comes to mind is a poem, whispered by someone in love, hundreds of years ago- 'unable to perceive the shape of you, I find you all around me, your presence fills my eyes with your love. It humbles my heart, for you are everywhere.'

Just wanted to say 'yes' to pretty much everything you said!
I was also a little 'wait, what?' at the dance scene, and my mom and I exchanged a curious/amused look at each other, even though it was sweet and I still understood it to be a neat way of showing her 'inner voice'.  I thought it kind of stuck out a little at first, but all the reasons you mentioned for it working, I agree with.

And yes, it's safe to assume her friends are just fine, I just used that phrase for Giles due to his situation, and musing what happened afterwards.  But everyone around her/involved with was moved by the situation with the creature... Zelda was moved to help, and stand up to her husband, and will keep on doing what she's doing.  I said 'poor' Giles since he seemed a bit lost, but he too was inspired and moved by the whole thing, plus, we do seem to have gotten a bit of assurance with him getting some 'spark' back in the form of his art and youth thanks to the creature, and inspired by them/knowing Elisa is probably okay, as he so narrates.

Stopped in again to see what was new in the forum, and saw this thread (with no replies???)   I loved this movie!

I was lucky to have even caught it - I kept hearing about it before release, then the holidays happened, and it wasn't widely distributed I think, so by the time I thought to check and realized it would be gone soon, my mom and I had to go two towns over to catch it, since we both loved del Toro's other films.
Same kind of dark/strange beauitful visuals, same kind of perfect 'period' touch, everything was well shot.  I must admit it was quite more explicit than I expected, but that worked with showing everyone's desires and a desire for connection.  And perhaps part of it was simply thoughtful surprise since like you said, the movie was quite frank and open about it!

Plus, like you said, the main characters being these two strong women who didn't quite fit in with everyone else, and Sally's character being the one to also connect with the closeted gay man and the creature, I loved how they portrayed all that, tied in to the time period and politics.  Yes, the effects and Sally were amazing!

Am I the only one who was fondly recalled of 'Splash' afterwards?
Although the only part that threw me as a bit odd (well, odder) was Sally's 'silent film' song number.  It just seemed to stick out a bit, do you think?  And wondering what happened to her poor friend afterwards.
Thanks for sharing!

Gahh.... that's horrible!   I've, uh, lost the nail on a big toe before, from hitting it badly?  With just having to stay off it a bit, I can't even imagine multiplying that by many degrees to what happened to you.  Glad you managed to fight it off and have your hubby to help!  Good luck recovering!

As one of the other 'regulars', I'm not around as much either except with lurking, just due to activity and not having as much to say, but glad I stopped in and saw this, since you were one of the other long-timers who was always nice to read posts from.  Just wanted to say so so sorry to hear that!  Also hoping you have the support of family and friends around, and take care, however much we see you around here again...

Oh, and it was, besley... it was!  My best friend always manages to get the -best- geeky gifts... a Dr. Strange poster for xmas, and then he found this shirt!  ;D   Hm... let me see if I can just find a quick pic of it online... the design of it really is different, and love it... very simplistic line work, not much color...  here we go... as seen on an attractive male model... (lol!)     (although honestly, the star specks are not that bright!  more toned down to just look like a pale night sky, with the graphic more visible)

I don't always stop on every day, now... (don't feel like I always have a lot to say nowadays!) but still enjoy reading your posts and having this place to come to, and to come back to see a few sweet messages and that you remembered was a very nice surprise!  Thank you so much!
Yes, very neat it fell on Easter this year, so extra fancy family dinner and utterly spoiled with treats from them, and by my friend at our movie night the day before that, despite still having to work (that's retail, for you!).  Nothing Sherlock related, but the next best thing - an awesome Dr. Strange shirt!  ;D

Amazing gifs.  And just to add as a little follow-up, I found myself searching on google for that last pic I loved, the promo/publicity type shot of both the Benedicts, wondering if there was anything else.  And oh, yes, there was!     Not only a couple other cute shots of them, but the entire thing was from an Dr. Strange interview during which they were asked to have a little fun and sing 'Single Ladies'... with mouth retractors in.  Oh boy....
You guys gotta see this, if nothing but for the gifs alone!

Ha!  Thanks!  A little sheepish, but that's my habit of getting too elaborate in my stories or explaining stuff!  If I wasn't always tinkering on more 'immediate' stuff, or thought I'd have a chance of a reply again, it would be neat to try it once more with some of the others.
And kg - pretty expensive?  Well, sure, more than just a couple first-class stamps, and I don't remember exactly, but I don't recall spending that much on all four Sherlock cast letters!

Neat picture... in context!
And I could be mistaken, since I watched it ages ago, but that looks like Mark as he was in BBC's Being Human... the show about a vampire, werewolf, and ghost roommates, who get entangled in a lot of weird stuff while trying to be normal... and Mark is one of the super-old creepy vamps!

A belated 'hey'!  Yeah, I know, it was really nice/cool!  I've always just loved stuff 'from afar' and never thought to write to my favorites (and it's so different now with being able to ping some of them a tweet!  But that's a whole other thing...).

I know getting a lot of fan mail must be interesting, though, and all the varied stuff they're sent!  And sure, telling them how much you love their stuff with the hope of a reply or pic, or just to let them know they're enjoyed!... after hearing more about it from other fans online when I started getting into fandoms more, many years ago I decided I wanted to try it with David Tennant and John Barrowman, my then-crushes from Doctor Who .  Just a short and sweet handwritten letter about being their fan (politely requesting a signed pic at the end), an S.A.S.E., because I knew that made it easier on their busy end (stamped, smaller manila envelope, about 6"x9"), mailed in the same kind of envelope.  And they actually replied!!  With their own promo postcards!  (possibly auto-signed, but I don't care!)

Soo... some years later when I got utterly lost in Sherlock, I thought it would be awesome to try with those guys.  So using the same format as before, I mailed Benedict, Martin, Andrew, and Rupert (keeping it to just top favorites for first attempt... I know, I know, I should write 'the girls', too!  They might have an easier time replying!).  Except this time, I figure I'd make it even easier and include a pic ready to sign (just picked my favorite promo picture, printed on decent paper, kept small to fit in the smaller envelope, so wouldn't be bent, as you can see in the pic).  And... only Rupert replied.  Which is awesome, but still... darn. (and this was even before Ben was married/with kid! I can't imagine now!) I even heard Andrew say he's always so touched by number of fan letters and tries to reply, but hey... I know they're busy.  But still.  Eee...  perso
