They looked fine to me.
I find it amazing people even notice things like hair, when watching Sherlock.
It's so complex.
It takes all my attention to focus on plot, characters, script, lighting, filming techniques, music, body language, canon references, the humour, cultural references, costume etc...and I have the advantage of being a native English speaker! Again, I can only repeat: I thought I watched these episodes a lot!

I concur , but I guess it's also more a thing of being really into Benedict Cumberbatch for those who notice such details (which is completely fine by the way)

I used to be quite opposed to baby Watson, but now I've kind of warmed up to it. It could make for some very funny moments between John and Sherlock, and I have trust in Moffat and Gatiss to handle this particular storyline the right way.

Oh, and so many new images/hints.

Uh, this doll is already creeping me out. If there's one thing I hate it's talking, killing, or otherwise nasty and endevouring dolls. Is there a story in the original canon this one could be sorted into?
(I've read all of the stories several times over the course of my life, but I'm afraid my brain resembles a sort of wind blown shack rather than a mind palace, so it's not ringing any bells.)

Martin Freeman » Martin's press appearances generally » April 7, 2016 5:39 am

Some people simply tend to make too much of any and everything.
To me it also sounds rather self-deprecating, taking the mickey out of himself in other words. Whenever I read one of his longer interviews I'm always stunned by how mature and clever he sounds, e.g. I really enjoyed reading the "Rake" interview with him, and I ended up feeling a tad stupid afterwards.
I guess some people think he and Benedict either love or hate each other, the idea that they might simply be having an amicable working relationship never seems to cross their minds.

Oh so now, finally, all the speculating begins again... Interesting times ahead.

I've decided to resurrect my account in honour of some serious new Sherlock action taking place, and fortunately some extra time on my hands  to join in a little bit

Stamford is in it too, and there's a scene set at the Criterion, so it could be a traditional version of Study In Scarlet in some aspects, maybe mixed with a bit of Sign Of Four.

I would very much welcome that!!

Perfect summary! I love this film (and I love Colin anyways) and I think the fact that it was shot with one very simple camera makes it so much more credible than it would have seemed in a perfectly set up scenery.  Many people have criticised the slowness with which the narrative moves forwards; I think it is just the right pace for telling such a story.

We watched a very interesting movie last night with Colin Firth in it called Genova released in 2008.

It also starred Catherine Keener, an actress who I have followed for some time now and seems to always choose quirky roles (I know her best from her work with Steven Soderbergh's Full Frontal, but she is probably better known for Being John Malkovich).

It was a very small project and not released in the US in theatres (only in DVD in 2011 after The King's Speech's Oscars) and I can't find any records on the internet of how it did in non-domestic North American markets (it was released theatrically in foreign markets but seemed just to mainly do the film festival circuits rather than do a wider release).

It isn't a commercial film that's for sure.  Shot in an almost pure hand-held, "home movie" style it has a rough quality about it that just wouldn't go down big with a wide audience (it reminds me of Full Frontal in this way).  That isn't to say it is amateurish - not at all!  It has great depth and care in every shot.  The director, Michael Winterbottom (who also co-wrote the screenplay), is a veteran of being nominated for a Palme d'Or at Cannes and is responsible for a couple of very fine films including Welcome to Sarajevo, The Shock Doctrine and A Mighty Heart).

This film tells the story of a teacher (Firth) whose wife dies in a car accident while driving on an icy road with her two children.  We find out very quickly that the youngest daughter was responsible for the accident (which is the first unconventional aspect of this film - there are many more) but it wasn't malicious

Benedict's Press » Out? » October 16, 2014 6:00 am

I don't get all the fuss about this interview. But possibly that's because I come from a different place anyway. I think Benedict is a bloody brilliant actor and I would watch him in anything without thinking twice. Otherwise I'm not really into the hype that much. But I have to say this interview has made me respect him quite a lot. If this is really how he said it, I would call it clever, sensible and insightful.
I also share his view on some the fan fiction that is out there (not even to speak about some of the graphic images). As for the fans writing it, of course they can be as free and creative as they like to be, but they can't force anybody, and that also includes the actors, to like or even endorse everything they produce. That's possibly asking an awful lot.

Benedict's Non-Sherlock Work » The Imitation Game » July 22, 2014 6:24 am

The trailers look great, both of them, and I have already been ordered by a family member to go and see the film with her. Well, not much coercion needed there as far as I'm concerned.

Series Four News » New speculation about shooting and airing in 2015 » July 21, 2014 5:54 am

I'm absolutely determined to go and watch the filming this time. If they're actually going to film the Christmas special in January it should work out easily for me. January is a good time to get a few days off where I'm working.

Other Cast & Production Team » Think before tweeting, or Amanda Abbington on Twitter » July 2, 2014 1:09 pm

Well, I tend to be very cautious on twitter, but there are moments when your temper just boils over and you absolutely have to make yourself heard or just get things off your chest. That's just what happened there. I really wouldn't read too much into it, and certainly not that she dislikes elderly people in general or anything similarly silly. We all react differently when we get upset and some of us have a bit more of a temper, but again just don't read too much into such comments.
It's not even worth a thread in fact.
Generally I think Amanda is a really nice and normal person and doesn't see herself as much of a famous anything, which is why when being on twitter she just is the way she is. And there always is the option to unfollow her if one doesn't like her comments (I personally do like them a lot).

Upcoming Events & Competitions » Sherlocked - The Official Sherlock Convention » June 20, 2014 3:46 pm

I don't think Sherlockology has anything to do with organising this event.
Showmasters and Massive Events are the two companies named on the form (aside from Hartswood Films of course) where you can sign up for the alerts.
Yes, possibly best to keep calm and wait for a formal announcement to be made. Maybe they just wanted to appease people a bit after almost half a year of virtually nothing...
I'm still hoping for October or November.

Upcoming Events & Competitions » Sherlocked - The Official Sherlock Convention » June 20, 2014 7:43 am

Well, it's nice that things are moving forward, but within the next three months is almost at too short notice. I thought there'd be more time for making plans and possibly saving up a bit more money (wonder how much the tickets will be) after not having had any official news since February. But with me it mostly is about getting some time off at work, which always proves rather difficult during the summer months when a lot of people are away already, so even a day or two won't be easy to get...So I don't quite know yet if I'll be able to go...

Wow, this is great news for you both, hope you get published! The book sounds like a must-have anyway.
Otherwise I'm looking forward to reading your paper online.

But you cannot generalise and throw all Johnlockers into the same sack as those loonies who harrassed Amanda Abbington (considering the immaturity apparent in those death threats and pictures she received, they had to be some crazed teenagers). Similarly, not liking the character of Mary doesn´t automatically equal dislike of Amanda.
.

Oh, but I didn't generalise. I think I wrote I'm completely alright with all of the Johnlockers, as long as they accept that there are those who don't ship it.
I just wanted to hint there are several ways of watching this show, meaning as the Johnlockers find many hints and signs to confirm their theory, there also are those who see things in a different light and find their version just as justified and confirmed when watching the show.

(And yes, among grown-ups disliking a character should have nothing to do with the actress/actor behind it. The way things are though, it has turned out quite differently in many people's books.)

The Sign of Three » This wedding is an extremely strange one! » June 5, 2014 10:42 am

But you also have to be aware, that the fandom doesn't consist of Johnlock people only.
I love the bromance, love the subtext, but want the bromance to stay bromance and the subtext to stay subtext, this is how it's always been between Holmes and Watson and this is how I would like to see it continue if I'm being completely honest with myself. And I like to think (and hope) I'm not completely alone there.
I get a bit biased when it comes to Johnlock people after seeing all the bile and hatred they've managed to throw at Amanda Abbington on twitter so far, including tweeting explicit images of John and Sherlock right at her (?!?) and I have to admit I love Amanda Abbington as an actress and I love seeing her and Martin together.
So at the end of the day I really like seeing John and Mary together, e.g. I loved the Christmas scene when John forgives Mary (and  - hit me now - I quite liked seeing Sherlock and Janine together as well, and would love !! to have her back too).  I'm alright with Johnlock, as long as the Johnlockers realise and accept there are also those of us who don't ship it.
As far as the wedding is concerned, the episode revolves around the best man's speech, which is what makes it possible for the writers to bring in all those additional storylines, so what happened inside the church wouldn't have been in keeping with the story arch they've chosen for this episode and we all know what happened there.
We got to see so much John and Sherlock because Moftiss are trying to bring in Mary, make her part of the show and be accepted by the audience, but also want to still continue to let the show revolve mainly around John and Sherlock as the two leads. This is how I see it.
There were quite a few sweet moments between John and Mary in that episode, it's also about a bit about wanting to see them or not. And if John isn't really in love with Mary, why was he so clear about his wedding day being the most important day of his life when he asked Sherlock
