Yes, I often see this theory around... And, if you piece together some shots of series 4 trailer, you can see Sherlock, John and Mycroft locked together in a room, Sherlock holding a gun and next shot you can see Mycroft behind him but no John... This is confusing me !!

We talked about those before, and what puzzled me is that Mycroft looks higher up on the no-John one.

I don't like that theory !
I think it's Sherlock struggling with love and logic. That's what John and Mycroft represent for Sherlock.

Could it possibly be a mind palace scene ?
As you say, a struggle between love (John) and logic (Mycroft) for a choice Sherlock has to make in real life ?

Yep, I like this theory better!

Doesn't have to be MP tho, looks just like a promo shot.

I'm not so sure it's only promo...could be real.
Does he have to choose?

there was a strong element of Sherlock relying more and more on sentiment and intuition instead of cold hard facts. maybe he will have to chose between what his brain tells him and what his heart tells him

It does seem possible that he will have to make a choice and two of the song titles from the soundtrack could hint at that as well. I've put them in spoiler tags below.

The title "Who I Want To Be" from TLD and "Who You Really Are" from TFP could suggest he is struggling with the person wants to be and and who he actually is (or thinks he is). I really hope he doesn't have to make a literal choice between John and Mycroft!

Here is the official BBC summary for The Final Problem. Since it is official I do not consider any part of it as a spoiler.

And disturbing also... "someone has been playing a very long game indeed".... very ominous!

-----------------------------------

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

That sounds omnious !!
"long buried secrets", "someone has been playing a very long game indeed" : the third Holmes bent on revenge ? Moriarty's final plan ?
This is making me anxious...

@Lis : I can't help but notice the change between the two songs, from I to you... Change of perspective ?

*gulps* that sounds unsettling.

And as the girls I watched TST with said "If this is the season starter... imagine how the season finale will go"

From everything I read, I cannot help but think that it will be the last episode ever... I mean, Moftiss must have planned an ending if they couldn't reunite everyone again for series 5...

I certainly think it's at least going to appear as an end point, with just the possibility of carrying on in the future.
