He has a very sexy way of making John shut up.

He has a very sexy way, full stop. And with his very sexy way he should make John do lots of other things... for us to see...

Now that you mention it - he has a sexy way of handling a riding crop, of walking over tables, of stopping cabs, of kissing (the wrong) people …

Whatever it is, it's sexy and Sherlock is doing it to John!

In short - it´s obvious that Sherlock is sex personified!

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

And let me just repeat myself: If Sherlock were doing this to a woman, everyone would say "Oh yes, of course...!"

Exactly. But there are people who do not want to see the light.

On another note: Today I read a quote by Mark Gatiss about coming out still being difficult and LGBT people still not having equal rights. Would someone like him put in all those hints and subtext just for laughs?

Remember, we are talking about a show whose pilot included this totally heterosexual bromantic little gem:

It would be pretty weird if he did, at least. I always think that all those hints and the subtext eventually have to lead somewhere... otherwise it's really just joking around and also not seizing a perfect opportunity to make a statement or whatever you wanna call it. If they don't want to make a statement, then why do they give us this subtext continually?

The thing is that many people do not see the subtext/play it down as a running gag. Just imagine their faces when they finally …
