A different version of their first meeting is what comes to mind as well.
"You'll do" sounds like the sort of thing Holmes would say to validate Watson as his flatmate, doesn't it?

Yay… it came an hour away! And… eep… just had the most amusing realization. It's one thing to share the love of something online, or to have a couple scattered friends, but getting to go to something like this (having not been to a con like some of you lucky)…... the whole room will be filled with people excited to see this! And wearing our shirts and stuff! And seeing it all BIG! Eeeeee!

(and yes, seeing something of your Fandom with that many people around, sharing the same enthusiasm about it does change the feeling...I found it...not better, per se, but at the very least different when I went to see Doctor Who's 50th anniversary episode -tell you what, even if you're 2,000 people in the same room, seated on not-so-comfortable chairs, you don't care because you're just...yeah, it's going to sound cliché, but...you're just one. I found that everything was amplified. I expect something of the same magnitude (no! Bigger! Sherlock's my number one fandom, now) for STAB.
Oh dear. I've worked myself up a bit here...
Yeah, well. It's Sherlock we're talking about, it can't be helped -might do some colouring to settle down.

That has been my theory for a while... Maybe a bedtime story... Maybe John or Sherlock having to tell some kid about their fantastical adventures and how they met... maybe to Archie? Maybe they are babysitting him? And John has to step in before it gets all maggots and headless nuns?
