"But I'm not allowed to say because they will kill me."

I thought she wasn't allowed to say

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Could be bluff though. The more people on the show hint that she'll die, the more I start to believe she'll live. I'm paranoid, thanks Moffat.

As much as it pains me, I have to agree.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

I keep wondering if they'll keep her alive just to be contrary.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

I doubt that they conform to fandom wishes and opinions when writing their show.

And I think we should not insist too much on Mary dying because this could indeed backfire. Tbh, I would prefer her staying alive, at least for a time, as a fearsome villain to dying a victim and John being devastated about it. (Oops, they did talk about devastation in series 4, didn't they?)

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

I don't mean contrary in terms of the fandom, but in putting an unexpected interpretation on canon.    They did make quite a thing out of Mary's death being "off screen" and I wonder if they'll use that lack of information creatively (as with assuming that Holmes murdered Milverton).   I agree, it wouild be much more interesting to have her alive as a villain.

I second the motion Susi.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Fascinating theory about the workings of Mary-style manipulation. Quite plausible:

What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Wow, this is really good. I always found this whole "Beth" thing strange but this explains a lot. And btw, I am still suspicious about "Cath" as well.

Yeah, I bet Cath was pure fiction too.

And, strangely enough, she met her just about the time John was kidnapped.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Oh, yes. And she is only reachable through the phone, like Beth, and we never see her like we see Janine. Also, isn´t Janine kinda introduced as Mary´s only female friend?

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Well, she is her chief bridesmaid but they do not exchange a single word in the show if I am not mistaken. Very strange indeed.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Though Sherlock does highlight that Mary only 'befriended' Janine to gain access to CAM.

Which is quite an interesting thought since it would mean that Mary knew of the Magnussen threat long before the wedding.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

I never doubted that...well at least from the time of the wedding telegrams!
I think also hence Sherlock's exasperation with her, the : why didn't you come to me?
