He seems to be a really nice guy. I should be more interested in his works now. Started with ordering "The League of Gentlemen". Only know his roles in "Sherlock" and "Coriolanus" so far.

Shit! Apparently, Mark Gatiss visited Orava castle in Slovakia (my homecountry!), while he was making a documentary on horror films (because that was the site where Frank Murnau´s "Nosferatu" was filmed. And I only get to know the fact three years after it happens! Just my luck!

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's on Youtube (A History of Horror, in three parts). It's worth watching if you're at all interested in the genre.

Yeah, also watched the show on youtube. It's really interesting and entertaining. Usually I am not into horror that much but Mark does a very good job in it.

Probably because Mark is an enthusiastic fan of it and he could project his enthusiasm to the viewers of the show.
Also, not all horrors are genuinely scary. Some old ones are quite amusing, if you think about it.

I'm not normally a horror fan (I wouldn't be likely to go to the cinema to watch a modern horror). But when I was young, I used to have a book like Mark's and I loved the look of those early horror films. I was fascinated by them. (In those days, there was no home video and you had to wait for films to appear on TV or see re-runs at the cinema, so the photos in the book were precious in a way that they wouldn't be now). So that part of the documentary struck a chord with me. Once home videos were available in the early '80s, I found a specialist video rental shop and I got a chance to catch up on films like Werner Herzog's Nosferatu.
There's another documentary called Horror Europa, which covers other The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, Pan's Labyrinth, etc. The horror genre includes some truly beautiful films.

Ha, Agreed! The majority of his pics, to me, I find so sweetly charming, or looking a little quirky/strange.
