One of the main reasons I say this is because of how we saw their relationship develop in Series 3. It just seems to me that they're working towards something, and when you continue to build up a relationship between two characters it just seems like the logical step, you know?

When Sherlock shot Magnussen, there was a moment when John looked at him. That was the look of someone realising just how much they're loved. Sherlock is far from stupid; he knew there would be consequences for what he did. But he did it anyway to protect John, with no thought for himself, and if that's not love then I don't know what is. What Sherlock did was completely selfless (whereas Mary shooting Sherlock could be considered selfish, as she was trying to protect herself) and I hope that John remembers this.

Picture this; say in Series 4 or 5 or possibly even later, it becomes canon. Everything that came before will be their love story. A story of two best friends falling in love and (this is cheesy as hell but I don't care) overcoming death itself to be together 

It will be a beautiful day when those two idiots realise they're perfect for each other ^^

From what I hear, they're very good friends. Maybe they just want to use the spare time to get into the scenes ahead or their characters' headspaces.
