I'd love to see Johns room. How tidy is that? =13px

We never see John's room at Baker St., but I don't imagine it would to too terribly different from the one room flat we srr him in at the begining of SIP. That place had the tidiness of military precision. Even the bed had those military corners in the bedding. I'm guessing that Jophn's room is rather like that.

Someone mentioned the scene where John and Mrs. Hudson are looking through Sherlock's things for unmentioned stuff. Mycroft gave Sherlock a ciggerette and he took it to which John exclaims "sh**t" Then in HOB Sherlock goes insane looking for a secret stash of ciggerettes. I know the canon has Sherlock as someone who uses drugs, but in this series I honestly think that a duck is a duck. Sherlock is addicted to nicotine and what they were looking for were ciggerettes.

I agree completely.
Still, I have the strong belief that at some point there will be a reckoning for wrong doers. Who knows how, but maybe those young men will be parents one day and see from a parent's point of view how such actions effect those around them.

Happy Easter Sunday for those who celebrate, Happy Sunday for those who don't.

Davina, I am a firm believer if Karma. Your son may not be there to witness it, but those boys who took out after him for being chivelrous will be revisited in kind and if you believe it - ten fold.
The universe has a way of eventually evening things up.

I'd imagine that at your end of the Americas it's due to 'Iron Man 3' and 'The Great Gatsby' being large contenders to open against.

Feel free to hop on a flight across the pond to catch it earlier, the UK welcomes citizens of the US without such mechanisms as ESTA or a visa.

Gratz on post number 123!

Actually I am coming across the pond, but not until August.
I have been spending time downloading info about different things like The Gherkin that I want to see while there. Unfortunately that building is not open to the public. I read that the line for tickets to The London Eye is super long so we are going to try and get as many tickets ahead of time as possible so that we can fit in as many sights as we can in the short time we will be in England. Hubby may not want to hear this but 2 days in London is simply not enough, there are too many things I want to see and do. I want minimally 3-4 days and if possible want to fit in a train ride to Cardiff.
I understand the Doctor Who experience is pretty cool. Oops this is off topic. sorry.

post 123? I never even noticed. Maybe I will do when it gets to 221.

Can someone explain to me why Star Trek Into Darkness, an American film, is coming to Eurpoe first? I checked on IMDB to see when the actual release date was and was shocked to find that America is waaaaay down on the list. You all will get it on May 10th, we don't get it until the 17th! Ummm am I wrong that this is an Amertican film? I don't mean to sound picky here but we Americans have to wait longer for all our favorite British shows which I understand completely, but hey wait - Star Trek is not a Eurpoean franchise.
Here is a break down of who gets it and when.

What is The Gerkin and what is it for? I found a page about it that talked about it's construction and energy efficient systems and such. It also says it's not open to the public, but no where does it say what the building is for. Is it offices or a bank or what?
It is striking and I am just curious.

Erm, may I respectfully suggest that you ought to watch it, at least before offering an opinion on it!

Here's the thing. I have now read these posts that have stated what the ending is. Why would I want to waste how ever many hours are left of the final season when I already know that I will be sorely dissapointed at the end?

I didn't realize that the series was ending or I wouldn't have read this thread. Now I wish I hadn't. It's too late now. I can't un-know what I've learned. The fact that several people have now confirmed that Arthur is killed and there is no Golden Age for Camelot with Merlin at Arthur's side as he binds all the kingdoms into the great land of Albion as was promised right from the first season leads me to have an opinion even without seeing it.

Yeah, I liked the ending, although I was dissapointed that we didn't see any of the much advertised "united land of Albion" where magic is once more accepted and blah blah. I mean throughout the entire show, this has been Merlin's "destiny" and what often kept him going and then we get an episode in which Arthur finds out the truth and dies without seeing any of the things they were "destined" to achieve together.

Crap! That's how it ends? That sucks. I'm not sure that is even worth watching. I guess I will be changing the end of my story because that ending is wrong in every sense of the word. See now I'm ticked off.

You are absolutely correct - no pay off. No great and wonderful Albion, Arthur dies? How in the blue blazes does he become the greatest King Camelot has ever seen if he dies while he is still barely more than a man?

I won't bother even watching it. What a let down.

Benedict has done such wonderful work with complex characters I'd like to see him tackle the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Read this brief article about the man and you will see why I think that this man's life and political bearings along with his underlying morality would give Benedict a role to sink his teeth into:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/bomb/peopleevents/pandeAMEX65.html

Of course that means someone brilliant would have to write the role. Hmmm, any ideas?

Life long fan of Star Trek. When the show first started we would watch it as a family. Since it came on at dinner time it was the only night of the week where we would get to eat in the living room. My mom made dinner and we all sat with these little metal folding TV tables in front of us. Every Saturday at 6. Best night of the week.
I have seen and mostly liked all of the spin offs. DS9 was the only one that lost my interest, but I still watched most of it. I liked Odo.

The re-boot movie.
I went to see that with some trepidation. I grew up with these characters - literally. I am a huge Trek fan and I was worried that they would butcher it. I was beyond pleased. The re-boot was fantastic. The casting was great and the essence of each character was spot on in my opinion. The way the wormhole was used to change the past and give the new Star Trek a whole new lease on canon was a stroke of sheer brilliance because it now fits with the original canon.

I am very much looking forward to the new film, and having Benedict in it is icing on the cake for me. I would have waited in line for the first showing whether or not he was a part of the show.

I am also a fan of Merlin and thought highly of the young man who plays Merlin. For someone so young he showed terrific promise. I have not seen the rest of season 5. Only got up to the episode where Arthur and Merlin take Gwen to a lake to cure her of the spell Morgana put on her. From the last few posts it seems that the series has come to an end and I get the impression that it was not a good end. Hmmm, now my curiosity is piqued. I guess I'll have to check it out.

I hope it doen't end badly. I am nearly finished with a very long and thus far well received Merlin fan fic. I may have to change the ending if the show wraps it up poorly.

I am a fan of Firefly as well as the film Serenity although I preferred the series. Wash was my favorite character as well. What I liked most about the show was the interpersonal relationships. The ensemble cast had a good chemistry. It worked.

I didn't mind the way they spoke, I liked it actually. The idea of a science fiction - western seemed a little strange to me but after seeing the film I was interested in learning more about the characters so I rented it and watched the entire series.

There probably aren't too many fan sites for it because it had such a short life - although the show certainly took on an occult fanbase that is very loyal. Honestly if FOX hadn't tanked the program it would have done very well I think.

WRITERS BLOCK

Writer's block can happen for various reasons, and each author has his or her own style or method of writing so the causes of writer's block may be different for each author. There are some common causes, however, and ways to combat the problem. I will use my own experiences as a writer to illustrate points so please be aware that this article will focus primarily on writing fiction although these techniques can and will work for other forms of writing such as papers, technical writing, journals, et cetera.

SOME CAUSES OF WRITER's BLOCK

Probably one of the most common reasons for writer's block for new authors is that they have started a project or story without doing any preliminary work. A new author may ask themselves, “Why can’t I just sit down and write something. Whatever comes to mind and put that down on the paper?” The answer is simple. You can.

As a matter of fact that is how many first time writers compose their first stories. That is how I got started. I had no real beginning, middle or end in mind. My first work was a fan fiction based on the Harry Potter books. I may not have had any idea what I was doing, and didn’t know any writing techniques, but what I did have was a passionate love of the characters and the world in which they lived. That took me through nearly 50 chapters, until I hit the inevitable - writer’s block. The story that I first started sits, to this day, unfinished.

If I had known to do some simple preliminary work on the story I was writing, I most likely would have finished it. Some of these preliminary techniques include, but are not limited to brainstorming, research, and writing an outline that will keep the story on track.

Another common cause for writer’s block is what I call being  ‘lost in the woods’ It occurs when an author is writing a particularly long story and gets a little lost when the story seems to take on a life of its own and go in a direction that i

I've found it!!! I wrote a bunch of articles for a writer's forum that I started on ff.net and the site admins basically deleted any thread that had not had a post in a while. This was a few years back. In any case most of my articles were gone, but I came across an old one about writer's block. I thought that was gone and I am so pleased to have found it again.

It is kind of long but after re-reading it again I am still pleased with the article. I'll post it here is no one minds. Someone asked about this specific issue a few posts back so it is essentially on-topic.

I don't know if there is a word limit to posts so I may end up posting it in sections.

And yeah… it's interesting what a difference there is, or people like some of us here who found it too odd/campy, but loved the new ones instead. I doubt I want to undertake tackling all the old series, but maybe go back at some point to try a few with Four and Five, who honestly seemed the funnest of the old Doctors. I get you with the focus towards 'not skipping around', but if just wanting to try a little bit to know what this or this Doctor was like, asides from major history, it seems to be the kind of show that much more lends itself to being able to jump in to any one separate adventure/episode, no?

That is true actually. The classic series was far less 'seriel' in nature without the long story arcs we see today.

Russell wrote:

As far as current ones go, though….. boy… I think everyone was wonderful. Introducing us to the Doctor again with someone not too old or young or model-ish looking and portraying someone coming back to the world after everything… I think Eccleston was so great for that… a bit rough and angry but still exuberant, for us to excitedly fall back in with the adventures again. Of course… a companion like Rose didn't hurt…. ;P ;P (don't get me wrong, I loved her, but she was definitely a 'fan's companion' often). I'm with the other commenter… my soft spot is for the non-romantic/headstrong/best friend Donna or Amy/Rory (they count together, c'mon!) And Jack/River mixing things up. Oii… seriously, Jack. ;P ;) And as much as I slowly warmed to him, while Eleven was fantastic at showing range over the series, Ten will always be 'my' doctor… ;)

I can't wait to see what they do with the similarly spunky Clara and her hopefully uniquely awesome story...

That is an interesting take on Eccleston. I never cared for him much as The Doctor, but maybe he is the right actor to bring The Doctor - scared from the Time War - back into the hearts of humans after the long break.
