I told my husband that 2 nights in London was not enough for me so we have extended our time in London to 4 nights! Whoo Hoo.

In any case I thought of a question I could ask when I saw a new post on the Hawking thread. Is there a good place for me to look while I'm in your country to find as many of Benedict Cuberbatch's roles in recorded form (i.e.. DVD or tapes)? In America we are somewhat limited as to what we can see of British movies and shows. I mean I can't just pop off to the local Blockbuster and get copies of his movies to rent. So where would you folks go to get releases of his work for sale? I am quite impressed with him as an actor. And to think a few months ago I had never even heard his name.

Oh I was watching a British show called MI5 on Netflix and saw that he had a cameo appearance in one of the early episodes. I was just sitting there and all of the sudden I said, "Hey look, that's Benedict Cumberbatch! He only had a few lines. He was hauled in by the MI5 group because he was selling state secrets to terrorists. I wonder what else he has appeared in?

Looking around on-line I still haven't found anywhere we can buy a wooden Tardis wardrobe, but I know such a thing exists. The WhoShop has a canvas one but we were really hoping to find a proper wooden one.

I showed my son a video of the gift shop at 221B Baker street and he was like a kid in a candy shop. He wanted almost everything the camera panned across. I guess we'll be stopping there for souvenirs. Who would have thought that a seven year old in the year 2013 would be a Sherlock fan? I'm sure ACD would have laughed at the suggestion.

Renting a car in any of the cities we go to will be out of the question actually. I never thought about the fact that my driver's license would not be valid in another country, but my husband told me that we would have to have international licenses to drive around in Europe. Even getting my passport has hit a snag. Apparently now the old birth certifica

I use tap water at home for cooking, dishes, the cats, etc...
I tend to prefer to drink bottled water, although I will fill water bottles with tap water sometimes. The thing is, the amount of chlorine in the tap water makes it so you can taste it. I have found that if you fill a pitcher with water and leave it exposed to the air the chlorine taste leaches out after a few hours. I think I actually either heard that or read that somewhere.
At work you can safely drink the tap water but you probably wouldn't want to as the water table is located over rich sulfur deposits. The little town is now called Clifton Springs, but was originally called Sulfer Springs. The sulfer smell gets pretty strong in the summer months.

Eating out? You are spoiled for choice in London. Depending on where you are staying and what sort of budget for a meal I can let you know (I have my sources!). PM me with details if you want.
Cardiff is quite a way from London, not in American terms but in UK terms. I think I would get a train.
If you only have a couple of days then a trip to Cardiff is probably out of the question. It is a lovely little city it I'm not sure I would take all that time out to go there if I was in London itself for such a short time.

What is the Embankment?
What is the OXO tower?
Do they still have plays at the Globe theater?
I don't know yet where we will be staying, but I'll drop you a PM when we firm up our plans.
It's a shame about Cardiff. I am a huge Doctor Who fan and I understand that Cardiff has an attraction called The Doctor Who experience. It seems a shame to be so close and not be able to fit in the time. If I can get a few extra days off from work maybe we can extend our stay by a few days. I don't know if that will be possible but we could always try.

Ok, no renting a car then. Even my sister, who has been a few times, said don't even think about renting a car. It isn't worth it due to parking fees and such. She said to get an oyster card. That's for the tube right? Can we get those at the hotel or do we have to go to some sort of transportation hub?

Ducky (When ever someone asks me how I am doing my response is almost always "just ducky" and can mean either good or not so good depending on my tone of voice.)
2. What is your least favorite word?
It's a filthy curse word directed at women that begins with a 'C' and ends with a 'T'

The cacophany of hundreds of birds chirping in the trees

Anything with waste disposal

Hello all,
We are coming for a visit in August, but only have a couple of days in London before we move on to the next city, so I want to try and get the most out of our visit. I have been doing a lot of on-line checking for sights that we will want to see, but what I am having some trouble finding is a place to buy a Tardis wardrobe. My kids are all big Dr. Who fans and my eldest doesn't have a closet in her room so we would like to get one of those tardis wardrobes. I looked at the WhoShop and they have a wardrobe that is canvas but they won't ship it over seas. Is there anywhere else that we could get a proper wardrobe (wooden) that we could buy and have them ship home to us?

We plan to visit the 221B Baker St location, as well as the Whoshop. Unfortunately the Dr. Who walking tour of London will not be availabe the dates we will be there. Such a shame. They have a VIP tour that is always available with advanced notice but it is 330 pounds per person. That is too rich for us.

I read someone elses' post about the tube and gleaned some useful info from her question and your answers so that is good. I am guessing that cabs, at a pound a minute, would be a pretty expensive way to get around. We don't mind walking so I am hoping that most of the things we want to visit are in walking distance to where ever we will be staying, although I wouldn't mind taking the tube from place to place. If I can survive the NYC subway system, the London tube should be fine!

I wouldn't mind one fancy evening out for dinner. Any suggestions? I know I would like to try having lunch at the little sandwitch shop next to the BBC's Sherlock version of 221B Baker street. I am thinking that it might not be so busy in August since they would be done shooting series three by then. Running into any of the cast or writers would be fabulous, but I don't imagine that would ever really happen.

One of the things I really want to do IF w

We have the first two episodes recorded from Direct TV. I think we should be able to transfer them to disk. It would be an American disk however so if you are in the UK you won't be able to play it on your machine. When hubby comes home I'll ask if we indeed do have the capability of recording them to disk.
If I have that ability I'd be happy to mail them to anyone who missed them.

I have been reading loads of Sherlock fan fic lately and am not finding what I want. Right now I have too many open fan fics that need completing and have begun work on 3 original manuscripts so basically I don't have time to try and write these things myself.

So I looked for a thread where people ask about fics that could possibly be written by others and this seems to be the place to do that. So if I give out some fic ideas does anyone want to give them a try?

1. It occurred to me that John seems pretty traumatized by Afghanistan in SiP and it got me thinking that could be used in a fic where Sherlock is faced with a real puzzle that ends up involving not only his brother but John as well. Basic premise: There have been three assassination attempts on Mycroft Holmes. In each case the culprit is unsuccessful. The culprit is easy to find because in each case as soon as they try to kill Mycroft they turn around and commit suicide.
- Important government official = Lestrade gets the case.
- Lestrade calls in Sherlock.
- Sherlock brings John
- John identifies all the would be assassins as men from his company in Afghanistan and personally vouches for each of the men. They were good men and would never do this kind of thing. All decorated war heroes.
- Mycroft ends up at 221B to talk to Sherlock about what progress he is making and John gets a call.
- After hearing the voice on the other end of the line John's eyes glass over
- He pulls out his gun and shoots Mycroft in the left side of the chest at point blank range before turning the gun on himself.
- No one would die because Mycroft wears Kevlar and Sherlock stops John shooting himself in the head, but now the implication goes to a time when John's company was out of radio contact for 36 hours supposedly lost in the caves of the Afghan desert.

2. Molly hides the fact that she was attacked on the way home from work. She avoids Sherlock as much as she can, wears her hair down to try and hide bruises but Sherlock s

Sounds dangerous! I know the last time I went skiing was over 20 years ago. (I've never put those slats of death on my feet again! LOL) It was a clear day, I can't imagine flying down the side of a mountain in low visibility!

Um okay, maybe I have seen bits and pieces of LoA, although I have no clear memory of the film. That clip however is quite familiar. I remember trying that same trick as a child. Now as an adult I can do this bit with a match quite easily and without pain due to frost bite on my hands as a kid, and somehow that scene is still clear in my mind. Hmmm. I'll have to rent the film and watch it to see how much of it I remember.

I have been reading a lot of Sherlock fan fic lately and just finished one that I found to be brilliant. A bit melodramatic, but then again the Holmes boys are very melodramatic underneath their very controlled exteriors. (ie: arch-enemies, and government kidnappings) In any case I do not know if this author is a member here or not but the fic is well worth a read. The author's pen name is: Amaya Ramiel and the fic is called Crushing Fears. A link to this fic is: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8178939/1/Crushing-Fears

I hope it is okay to post this here. I don't mean any disrespect if this gal isn't a member, but I am certian that members here would enjoy this fic.

I have a question about e-mail notifications and the inbox. On other forums that I have been on that were set up with this same sort of format when someone sends a PM there is an e-mail notification of that. Thus far this has not been the case here. Do I need to set something up differently so that I will be notified if my inbox receives a message?

I don't think anyone was implying that Sherlock is upset over smoking or that the concern for him is over smoking. Sherlock has just identified Irene Adler's corpse. He was facinated by the woman and he is upset that she has been murdered.
The reason the smoking came into the conversation is because some folks thought that John and Mrs. Hudson were looking for drugs in the flat, while some others feel that they were looking for ciggerettes. The conversation all goes back to drug use and whether or not Sherlock actively uses drugs when under stress. The stress is Irene Adler's death not whether or not he has been smoking.

The night that Sherlock has everyone concerned translated to me differently than for most I suppose. I took that entire conversation to mean that Sherlock was on the edge emotionally. The fact that he took a ciggerette only proved how upset he really was. His comment to Mycroft about the cigerette being "low tar" and Mycroft's response "Well, you barely knew her." again translated to me to mean exactly what was being said.

I may be wrong, but I didn't see that scene in SiB to be about drug (the illegal kind) use. Now the scene in SIP with the drugs bust read as just that - a drugs bust. I have no doubt that Sherlock has at some point used drugs. I didn't really see indication of it after SIP and the drugs bust scene.

I guess it's all up to interpretation. I am the kind of person who take most things at face value. That's one of the reasons I do not see subtext in the dialogue that leads people to think of Johnlock. John has clearly stated in every episode that he isn't actually gay. It has become a running gag, in my eyes, rather than some sort of subtext.

The drug use or not drug use is the same, IMO. There was mention of prior drug use, but there is nothing in Sherlock's behavior that leads me to even suspect current drug use. Even John thinks the idea is daft and he is an army doctor and trained, I would assume, to spot such signs.
