Not so sure I'm going to like Atonement. Benedict is creepy, but I'm finding it hard to get into. Started it last night, can't pick it up again until Monday.

Ah! Thank you.
We are getting some of the "wave
and go" cards here. I guess we'll have to start calling them chip and pin machines

I can get almost all the dialogue - but I keep closed captioning on because of a slight deafness which garbles dialogue if there is background noise. I also annoy my children when they're with me by the volume I need to hear it at all.
As far as I'm concerned, I can't tell that Jim is using different accents - other than the bad american.

Score! I've got Atonement - now I have to get them to order full metal alchemist. (no internet = no netflix and I've got to keep up with Eslin to be able to correct her fanfics).

We have them everywhere here in America. Actually paying a cashier is unusual nowadays. You just run your card thru the reader, punch in your pin, and get a receipt from the cashier.
I get the pin part of chip and pin, but what is the chip?

When Sherlock introduced John as his friend to Sebastian, and John interjects colleague (as Sherlock introduced him to Sally in SiP), Sherlock looks disappointed. He was so proud to introduce a friend - since Seb made a point later of how "we all hated him" that John downgrading himself to colleague was a bit of a blow, No idea of how much time between SiP and tBB has passed.

I do find it amazing that John - the wounded soldier - mentally and physically - so isolated from the world he won't talk to his sister, recognizes Mike Stamford, but tries to hurry away before Mike recognizes him, is willing to let Sherlock in so quickly.
(You're very loyal, very quickly)
.
(I am also amazed by my ability to write such a run on sentence).
Sherlock otoh, is almost desperate for a sounding board - and has "seen" in John a kindred spirit.
When Sherlock is telling John "you're a doctor, an army doctor" etc, He asks him if he's seen (?? - can't remember the quote) and John replies Yes, enough for a lifetime - John looks down and to the left - a well known sign of telling a lie.
The Great Game » Why kill the blind lady? » June 28, 2013 6:18 pm |
True, Moriarity is a puzzle, with many missing pieces (darn those corner pieces) Each little piece Sherlock can put together will give him insight into how Moriarity ticks.
I still believe that he does at some level care that peoples lives are at stake, that fact is just so far down his list of interests that it doesn't really concern him at the time. After he's solved the puzzles - he can allow himself to be a bit more human - John rubbing off on him a bit.

Bleeping phone. Auto correct, and won't let me see what I've typed to correct it.
Sorry about typos.

I found out interesting that Sherlock and John had a bit of a tiff when John pointed out that lives, real human lives are at stake, and Sherlock said something about will caring help, then I shall continue to not make that mistake. (paraphrasing).
And yet at the pool, he tells M that People have DIED! to which jim replies that's what people DO!
So while solving the case, Sherlock understands that lives are at stake, but doesn't let the emotion interfere, while he knows, and CARES about it.

My daughter might have (if she watched Sherlock) because she was terrified of "The Nothing" in 'The Never Ending Story". It was portrayed as a snarling wolf type creature and she would have nightmares and end up in my bed. When she went to 1st grade and I found out her teacher was named Mrs. Wolff I was a little worried, but my daughter handled it well and ended up loving that teacher.

I wasn't too scared when I watched 'Hound" except for the part when the backyard lights were flashing on and off. That really startled me.
I wonder if the back yard lights were in fact flashing on and off - which I found very startling - or if that was another hallucination.

Sherlock doesn't help her attitude by always snarking at her and Anderson. I believe he enjoys rattling their cages.

Greg really did look the other way on several occasions, he knew perfectly well john had spot the cabbie, and the whole bit about dropping the cia agent out the window...
I can certainly see at least an official reprimand in his file at the very least.
Plus, I *think I saw on the bottom of a tv screen something about looking into the cases Sherlock had been involved in. a he never wore a coverup, how many crime scenes did he contaminate?

"we're not a couple" isn't actually true. While there isn't a sexual relationship, which is fine, it's all fine, they live in each others back pockets, spending more time together than apart. If they were both "ordinary", they could finish each others sentences like an old married couple.

I assume this picture belongs here. The scene always strikes me as some prophetic quote, a Reichenbach foreboding in SCANDAL:
What happened to the laptop?
It's not on the helicopter, it's not at the palace...
I adore the young constable who tells John the helicopter is for him.

Obviously it meant that there was a booby trapped safe. One assumes in teh case of the Vatican Cameos, someone had their safe rigged with a gun to shoot whoever opened the door. Sherlock knew something was up because when he looked at Irene, she started to duck.
He worked it out cos he's smart as well as sexy.
Just what happened when martin freeman is putting out the fire made him make that "Oh sh!!!t" expression
Just as we don't see Sherlock tell John to start a fire to make the alarms go off, we weren't witness to him telling John about the Vatican Cameo affair. Geez come on, can't the boys have some privacy from you fans??!!!
