Haha that's brilliant. Such classic Sherlock!
There's that other one he does too...when he's in the canteen with Molly in Blind Banker, and he's being nice to her to get her to bring out the bodies for him to look at...he gives her one of his special smiles then as soon as she turns her back he drops it instantly and checks his watch impatiently.
I know there's a gif for that exact thing on tumblr somewhere, haha. The only other one I have that I made is this one :D
Character Analysis » Sherlock- Asperger's syndrome and sociopathy » October 5, 2012 6:56 pm |
I've done a lot of research on psychology-related things and have specifically learned about Asperger's and Socipathy/Psychopathology. Sociopathy is not a common term used by mainstream psychology and neither is "psychopath". The most common related disorder is "anti social personality disorder. These terms do have characteristics made into a form of a checklist in which were created by Dr. Hare, one of the leading researchers of "psychopathology" and the like. In his books he describes plenty of sociopaths and his encounters with them and although Sherlock may sound partially like this in his gestures or himself as a whole, it just doesn't quite fit. Individuals of society often get Asperger's and sociopathy confused with each other because they indeed both have some similar characteristics such as lacking empathy and possibly antisocial behaviours. If Sherlock had never of mentioned being a sociopath, the thought would have never come to my mind. With Asperger's, one might consistently fail to make or persist friendships or avoid seeking shared enjoyments with others. Sociopaths on the other hand tend to care little about their friendships or use others for their own personal gain. "Aspie"s are also usually preoccupied with a small number of interests, but are particularly very knowledgeable in those subjects. They may also use a different variety of uncommon words in place in common words and tend to speak more formally. And as I think everyone here has already said or understands, Asperger's is a type of autism, and that their empathy and emotions are limited. They can often continue to keep talking and rambe off on something and not even notice the other person's body language/facial expression, so as a result they don't usually know when someone is getting bored in a conversation. Though, while typing that a particular scene came to mind; When Sherlock and John are talking during the (if I remember correctly) The Blind Banker episode. Sher

General Sherlock Discussion » Favourite moments » October 5, 2012 5:18 pm |
Oh my. Prepare for a bit of a long post. :'D
First of all, this video here
which includes most of the insults he uses throughout the entire show. My favorites that are used in the video in particular are the insults he has towards Anderson, especially the "You lower the IQ of the whole street." Also John's face in the Hounds of Baskerville when Sherlock says, "I knew it worked on a superior mind, so I needed to try it on an average one."
Aside from that video, some of my favorite scenes include; -Spoilers if you're not done with the series so far-
- When Lestrade and the others are in Sherlock's flat in the first episode of season 1 doing the drug bust and they are discussing the meaning of "Rachel" and (I believe) Lestrade says it was her baby that died 14 years ago and Sherlock says something to the matter of, "That was ages ago, why would she still care?" and everyone kind of makes a look at him and it's that moment, that face, when Sherlock realizes that he's said something wrong and looks to John and says, "Not good?" and John replies with, "Yeah, not good."
- The cafe scene in the first episode when John /totally asks Sherlock out, but because Sherlock loves his work too much, he declines the offer/ is talking to Sherlock about his love life, haha.
- The scene in the second episode of S1 when Sherlock and John are at the bank and Sebastian is talking about how they went to university together and he calls him a freak. I just like Sherlock's reaction. I don't know why, but it just seemed to humanize him a bit more - like he cared for a second what someone said about him.
- The last episode when Moriaty is saying to John that Sherlock payed him to act "the part" because he was bored. I was questioning my sanity during this scene, haha.

Yes! This! Exactly this! This is what Elementary is also decidedly lacking.
What Elementary is decidedly lacking is good writers. Our Sherlock has delicious writers-- not only are they clever, they know and understand canon SH really well, AND they have wicked senses of humor. Add that talent to our equally clever, knowing, humorous and talented actors, and..... I'm not surprised that Elementary can't match the Sherlock quality and overall experience, because what other show could?
Yes, exactly! I think the writers truly know the real Sherlock, and in my opinion it is amazing that they can combine the original character with modern society and to be able to apply all these new technologies and other advances as well. . . It's completely magnificent.

Hi everyone -
Been lurking for a little while, but realized that I'm here to frequently to not have an account. I'm 20 and I live in Colorado but my family and I are originally from London, England.
Hope to meet new people!
