I've read the book about one year ago and was overwhelmed with the almost painful honesty of Aciman's writing. After my deep impression of the book it was definitely worth of waiting for the movie which is beautuful, moving and excellent performed. Excellent. I liked all of it, the music, the acting, the sunny landscapes, the subtle sensuality.

Armie Hammer and Timothรฉe Chalamet are both superb at expression of these fragile feelings, heartbreakingly honest and absolutely human. I think, many of us could totally identify themselves with the characters of Elio or Oliver.

Itโ€™s amazing to know, that Luca Guadagnino is sure about the sequel.

Now I've read also " Harvard Square" and "Out of Egypt" by Aciman and just received also the very new book of him , "Enigma Variations ". I like his style, his language, his sense of humour.

Quite interesting conversation here!
I' m  native Russian speaker, but I speak also fluently German, a bit Italian, and learned English by myself. For me it's much easier to understand speaking English (as well as to read and write) than to speak. I' m totally embarrassed  to make a mistake, so the best way for me to speak free is to do it being  not fully sober.
Also, I like to "decipher" new  words I got to read or to hear.  Here a very nice one , for  example, as I was reading my favourite English poet from XVII century - " asunder".  I just loved it. Sounds quite like the German " auseinander". (And it's correct.)
Really enjoyable game , but I love languages in general. So I try to keep my Russian (writing at least) alive while speaking mainly German, Italian just for fun and improving my English as well.

Here is very interesting note by Howard Ostrom. He totally loved the "new" Russian adaptation.

Allow me to have my own opinion in this very case.
I do not like in general the sexualized idea of Holmes/Watson relationship. You do not have to sleep with your best friend. Imho.

Hahaha, manga dreams come true!

Quite sexist adaptation, made by men, I suggest. They let her play the cello - of course, because you have to spread your legs for it. Dusgusting.

I think, I'm already quite in love with the new Russian interpretation!

I really like this young emotional nerd Holmes (actor Igor Petrenko was 34 at age) and the good old "sentimental martinet" Watson (Andrey Panin was 15 years senior).

Here a short funny video about Dr. Watson. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And another, about Holmes, quite emotional.๐Ÿ’”

@Yitzock

I really like the idea of young fidgety nerd Holmes and older, experienced Dr. Watson. Mrs. Hudson is also quite young, forty something and.....(spoiler alarm) Watson fell in love with her!
Also an very nice point is that  Mycroft and Sherlock are twins! It's very useful when Sherlock needs some help of his bro! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I loved some "Easter eggs"  with hints to other (previous ) movies. And the idea that in his novels Watson made Holmes to look like a superhero we all  know. Holmes himself told Watson, how he should describe him in his writings. Very witty done.
I liked to see (especially) Holmes and Watson in kilts on "The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual".
And good humour in general.
The final fight with Moriarty in the snow at icebound Reichenbach was very impressive. Never thought of this - it could be winter indeed!

I disliked only the violence of Dr. Watson,  who boxes Holmes (sometimes unconscious) in almost each episode. It should be his kind of "upbringing"  of his strange fellow. Ok, the Doctor tended Holmes afterward, but ....you understand me, I hope.๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Also I did not really like the love story Adler-Holmes (though, Irene is a very handsome girl). They are like teenager, teasing each other all the time. Then kissing, then planing to escape together. The end of their relationship is very tragic.

So, here is a review in English on the first episode. Enjoy.

Has anyone also seen this one? Some feedbacks to share?
