It's worth registering to AO3. Many features become available and you should get an invite within 24 hours. If anyone needs one, just PM me I can probably sort you out.

Also, ~fly-by-hi!~

Screenshots are great for helping to illustrate what you're talking about (e.g remember in the scene where soandso was wearing blah, and leaned over whatshisname?). They're also excellent for appreciating all the details the production team put into creating an immersive set (like the one in the OP).

The art department on this show are just incredible and I definitely agree with finding ways to appreciate their work and find nuances we hadn't before.

I know what Vanja means though, sometimes people do go "I think this theory, and here's this screenshot". The "slow down" traffic cone is a great example of that. However, all the people who theorised that the "slow down" traffic cone was a clue had great fun with it, so no harm done :D

Guys, discussion of fic is perfectly okay. It seems to me that Person A read X into a fic and Person B didn't agree with that interpretation. This has become an issue where there was none.

If I rec a fic and say "I like it because..." and someone else goes "Oh I read that and didn't like it because..." that's useful information for someone else to decide whether they want to read it.

Dubcon is often a subjective topic. If someone reads a fic and sees dubcon, that's useful information for someone who is sensitive to, or simply does not enjoy, dubcon in fic.

Please don't instruct each other what they can and cannot discuss in a thread. This thread is largely for recs, yes, but it's also for discussing those recs. That's why the Masterlists were created - so that you could easily find the recs without all the chatter in between.

I am with Susi and the other mods that this forum does not need rules. It simply needs participants to show maturity with each other.

This statement was inflammatory and unnecessary:

Well, I read it very differently. And as I mentioned, what you read into it was not the author's intent.

I don't see why it's something to discuss or be upset about, to be honest. It's just a fic. If you don't like it, don't give it kudos and move on to some other fic instead. I've read many fics I don't like, even stopped in the middle of a few of them not even able to finish them. But I've not come here to the board to dis a fic just because I don't like it.

Here's why:
1) Sometimes people read things in fic that were not the author's intent. That does not in any way alter the way the reader perceived it. Communication is a living, two-way thing.
2) It's something to discuss or be upset about, if you are upset about it and wish to discuss it.
3) Expressing a negative opinion regarding your interpretation of a fic is not "dissing a fic". It is opening the discussion to further views.

A more appropriate response might have been:
"I

The em dash is new for me, though. I don't even think it's on my computer and I can't think of ever reading it in a book. Is it perhaps an American thing? Maybe I just read over it without ever seeing it, interpunction tends to work that way.

I have to use ALT+0151 to get em-dash but they are super useful!

Ha I was about to do the same Susi - was hoping it would die a natural death. But yes, this thread is not for discussions. Feel free to open another. Wouldn't want to upset Tonnaree's sensibilities, after all ;)

In Aus it's much the same. "Penis" and "vagina" are almost always only used in a medical or anatomical sense. No-one calls them that in the kind of casual conversation where you might be talking about such organs ;)

Oh god I love that trope! There's quite a few sentinel/guide Johnlock AUs.

My favourite is the Secrets and Revelations series by Hisstah. But also this search combination should net you a few good ones too.

I am also wondering why the need to purge. I am strongly against doing so unless there's a reason for it. As others have said there are reasons to register that don't include posting and I think purging memberships with no posts is the opposite of a welcoming community. What's the problem, as others have said, in allowing them to use features like subscriptions and PMs? It's a shame if people choose not to participate to discussions but it's up to them and there can be good reasons for it (like language which has been mentioned).

I guess in short I'd say that it's up to SH but I would like to see that only happen if we were having storage space issues or if there were costs involved in hosting those users.

Oh wow I haven't even seen either of those but they look epic so I shall have to add them to my read list!

(I'm currently on a Steve/Tony Avengers fic binge so my Sherlock reading is falling behind)

I've done the reverse! I didn't mind post-TRF fics, although they got a bit sameish after a while, but as for season three, for fics, I just prefer to pretend it never happened. *lalala fingers in my ear*

The problem is that the links aren't directing properly. The Boss will have to sort it, but in the meantime you can manually navigate to the pages by adding "&p=2" after folder=sent in the sent folder URL.

Therefore, page two of your sent items URL is: http://sherlock.boardhost.com/pm.php?folder=sent&p=2

There was a furor about it across fandom on Tumblr and Twitter. And not just in the Sherlock fandom. People were furious that Moran took someone's work and used it to humiliate the writer, and all writers of fic. She also lied to Ben and Martin and told them there was nothing uncomfortable in the fic (there was kissing, which you can understand them being uncomfortable reading aloud!).

It backfired on her in a huge way.
