I hope New York treats them well.

Sounds like you and your family have been through a lot lately. Sorry to hear that.

I think I understand your feeling. It's devastating to lose someone, but when you know they were ready to go you know that they are no longer in pain. Kind of a cold comfort at times, but you have to acknowledge it.

I have not been following the press about that particular film, but I have seen some sweet photos of the two of the together.

How nice!

I know you posted this a while ago now, besley, but I hope you are hanging in there. I know how devastating it can be to loose a parent and deal with everything surrounding that. I hope you have been able to find some peace these past few weeks, even if only for a fleeting moment.

Oh, I didn't realize this was a video by someone you knew at all. (Also, sorry for responding to this so late. Things have been very busy for me the last month and a half)
I haven't seen anything about Benedict lately, but it's true you never know with certain things. We all have bad moments.

Thank you for sharing this video! This is a great story (though I can understand the embarrassment at the beginning). The bit about Una was sweet as well. What a lucky guy. But it also seems to show that Benedict is a really kind person. Sounds like he connected with what was written and wanted to encourage a fellow actor.

I was able to go to a few this year, which was nice. It was also a really busy time for me, though, so it was kind of exhausting. But I usually only make it to one or two movies during the festival, so it was nice to see a few more this year.
Tom Hiddleston had a movie at the festival and I happened to be walking by when the red carpet was happening, so I saw him from afar.

I have heard of that happening, too. I'm not at that stage, though, I must admit. When I look at old pictures of myself, I sometimes feel like I'm looking at someone I don't recognize. Or if it's photos I took of myself from my university days, so a bit more recent, I'll remember how I didn't like the hairstyle I had at the time. I prefer how I look now.

Yeah, those of us who don't have every bit of work recorded for posterity probably have an easier time putting certain things behind us. But I suppose on the other hand, it is nice to have a record of how you have developed over time. While I'm not a widely published writer by any means, I'm basically a nobody, I do find that when I revisit things I wrote in the past that I can have a similar cringing reaction to certain things. But I guess that's normal. Lots of people feel that way about old photos of themselves, too.

What a lovely little encounter! That's nice that they didn't mind talking to you. How did you do on the scavenger hunt in the end?
Funnily enough, Steven is, or is about to be, sort of in my vicinity as well. He's speaking at an industry event at the Toronto International Film Festival, which just started. It's only open to industry people, but sometimes actors and directors also go to public screenings, so sometimes you might spot them. Viggo Mortensen was in the audience of a film I saw last year.

I know what you mean. But even though I'm not an actor I agree that becoming too aware of every little thing you do or say can be unnerving. And in general, most people feel weird watching themselves. I guess it's worse if you're an actor, especially someone as well-known as Andrew, because there are recordings and images of you everywhere. At least because he avoids watching himself too much, hopefully he won't become too self-conscious of things that aren't even a problem. Unfortunately I think a lot of people become overly critical of things they deem as flaws but aren't actually something that's wrong with them.

I don't know if any of you will see this, since I haven't had anything to contribute in a while, but I just saw this snippet of an interview with Andrew talking about why he likes acting in the theatre and doesn't like watching filmed performances of himself and thought it was enjoyable to listen to. Since it's from Instagram I don't know where the full interview would be found, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I've only seen two or three of Jodie's episodes and liked them. I remember more recently seeing people talking about how "having a female Doctor didn't work" or whatever and I remember thinking "She was great? Were we watching the same show???" I always meant to catch up, but we'll see. The last couple Doctors I seem to watch the first few episodes and then end up falling of the wagon for whatever reason. But I like to see how different actors play the role.

I don't think I will ever be caught up with the all the episodes I've missed. But I might check out the episode when I get the chance. I don't really think of it as a show where I have to see every single episode in order to enjoy it.

Sounds like you had a nice trip! I'm glad you had a good time even if not everything worked out exactly as planned.
I didn't watch the semifinals or the final this year because of other stuff going on with me and other things I had to do, but later on I watched Nemo's performance. I can't properly compare to the other performances and songs at this moment, but I thought their voice had quite a range and that the performance was visually interesting and exciting, so I think it's a deserving win. I read a bit about their press conference afterwards, too, talking a little bit about the situation in the world, which I appreciated.

Just popping in to say that I saw something about Eric Saade performing with a keffiyeh and speaking out against the ban on the flag, and why it's important to him to be performing in the face of what's going on with Eurovision/the EBU.
Music » Eurovision 2024 Malmö » May 8, 2024 8:47 pm |
I heard there was some criticism levelled at Bambie. I am also seeing a lot of criticism of other things, including the ban on Palestinian flags at the event. It reminds me of how in my own my own area, there has been a move to ban people from wearing keffiyeh in the Ontario legislative assembly, which I also think is a wrong move. Ulda from Gagnamagnið said she had to go through mutliple people to get perfmission to wave the pansexual flag in 2021, so she's not surprised by the unwillingness to let people wave other flags other than the official ones of hte participating countries.
I honestly don't know how I'm feeling about Eurovision in general this year. I understand why people are upset and want to boycott, but I don't know if it would make a difference. And I understand why artists would still want to perform, even if they have their own objections to the situation.
I haven't been following super-closely, for a variety of reasons, and I have refrained from interacting with anything about it on Tumblr, for or against, even though I have posted about it in previous years just because I don't want to get involved in a discussion I don't feel prepared to engage in. But I was curious how you were feeling about it as well.
