And, in the (paraphrased) words of Sherlock in TFP, "This isn't torture, its vivisection." The writers and team experimented with their own fanboy/ridiculous fantasies and we as audience pay the price.

A very VERY dear price I must say....

I couldn't agree with you more WhoIWantToBe. I forgave them for Series 3 because they were really short on actors' availability and filming time. But I can't forgive this. Very sad it came to this.

Feel free to delete or move, if this criticism is not appropriate here.

This season we heard this a few times:

"I don't care HOW you did it" followed by "I want to know why" "I want to know how could you" etc from a variety of characters. Most recently Mommy Holmes.

That to me, is the season in a nutshell. Gone are the days of walking us through the deductions, understanding that what Sherlock sees as a mortal man is made up of simple observations and logic and not a superhuman power. We had almost none of that in S4, and ironically the closest to it was in 221B when Sherlock was high. And now in TFP, the explanations to reason and observation is gone, replaced with what appears to only be superhuman powers.

This feels like a slap in the face, the writers are no longer interested in the mental gymnastics it took them to create and show the reason, the deductions, and even the shows own characters say this. "I don't care how you did it." To be honest, it started in S3, with TEH when John interrupts Sherlock's explanation of faking his suicide. And it just got worse, to the point were frankly, it is flat out mocking us as an audience.

I'm no beginner in film and TV writing, frankly I am one of them and this is some of the most discouraging writing I have ever seen after such potential was shown in previous seasons. Maybe the lens I am looking through is too narrow, I am willing to accept that. I won't disregard opinions that disagree with mine, I just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone else has teh same or even different interpretation of "I'm not asking HOW you did it." Did the Sherlock Producers and writers really think we don't?

Thank you for sharing my sentiments.

And I hear you Yitzock, but I believe what WhoIWantToBe is trying to say (and what I feel), is that from Series 3 to now, this show has lost its CHARACTER. Its now become a cheap imitation of other things all in the name of "surprising the fandom".

It wasn't worth the hype. Nothing but a cheap cop-out by the creators. Makes no sense reading into this show anymore, cuz the loose ends are never being tied up while more are being created. The only Final Problem is if Mofftiss will continue making dull cheap crap like Series 3 & 4, or get back to the basics of Series 1 & 2 which made the show AND the actors so successful!

I feel as if I just got mind effed (good), and played (bad) at the same time

As some have already stated, this was basically a mixture of SAW, Shutter Island, Mission Impossible & Bond all jumbled together. There were many good parts and many overall bad parts. It generally provided a sense of "family" which was good. But the whole Sherrinford horror maze was highly impractical, cliche, annoying and nothing more than a cheap copy of SAW. Then the writers basically screwed Molly over and we never heard or saw her again. And Mary with yet another Mission Impossible dvd message and the final narration.....utterly annoying and stupid. However, there were some great emotionally disturbing parts like when Watson found the bones. But the most disturbing part was the scene where Redbeard transitioned to the little boy. That gave me some chills and had me all over the place! It was touching to see the gentle emotional side of Sherlock talking and guiding the little girl (who I figured to be Euros at the beginning, but dismissed later down), and the final part where he showed his brotherly side by comforting adult Euros in her room. It was very heart warming and touching. But all in all, the bad out-weight the good in this one. This was not worth the wait. You know what other hyped up movie I waited 3 years to see, but turned out to be crap? Batman vs Superman.

Its clear that at this point Mofftiss are creating more loose ends while neglecting to tie up the previous ones. Its as if they don't care anymore. Anything is anything now. I'm seeing too many far-fetched and outrageous things all in the name of "surprising the fans".....but its killing the original character and nature of the show which made it successful. Its sad to say, but I think its totally POINTLESS theorizing and reading into this show anymore, as the writers continue to cop-out and cheap out, while not tying up loose ends. This show has gone down the toilet after Series 2.

About changing the title: all I meant was to take the "confirmed" part out for now, so that it doesn't look as if you are giving spoilers from the upcoming episode.   I thought I was going to have to delete the topic and was a little nervous clicking on it.  The trouble is that it's only when you click on it that you see you are talking about what we already know from HLV, rather than a spoiler from TFP!   There's no problem with the rest of the title, or the content - the only problems is the word "confirmed" when we're all getting so nervous about possible spoilers!

If you can't change it, don't worry - it won't matter in a few hours anyway, when TFP has aired.

I'm sure many/most of us have experienced the loss of a pet.  I'm probably more likely to cry about a pet dying on TV than much more tragic things happening to humans!

I hear you. "CONFIRMED" was removed from title.

I wasn't even aware that there was a leak until you guys mentioned it. Only a few more hours to wait though. Oooohhhh the suspense and agony!

I don't know if you can change the title  to something else, just so people like me don't worry?

I thought long and hard before I created the title. That's why I linked the video where Sherlock mentions that Redbeard had to be put down and how having to endure such treatment was "no fun is it?".

However in all fairness, if we confirm otherwise when the episode is aired, then I will definitely change the title. Typing this and even creating this thread and watching the video has made me a bit emotional, as I know the pain of losing a beloved pet. Moreover, Sherlock having to lose a pet who had to be put down. I guess its true that this season will definitely be very dark and climactic.

But thanks for making  a separate thread for the idea.
Although it gave a few of us a real fright to begin with, in view of the Russian leak.

My apologies if this was stated before, but like Moriarty, I've been off the grid stayin alive and decided to make my comeback for the big finale. So didn't get much time to go through the previous posts. But anyways, glad to know that we Sherlockians can share the same theories! Can't wait to see how things play out. Only a few hours left!

Well... Redbeard was Sherlock's family dog, when Sherlock was a little boy. Dogs do not live very long, especially purebred dogs. And putting him down (as we all could hear in HLV) in the end of his life sounds most probable, whatever was a reason.

A dog's lifespan is 10-13 years. How is that not long? The dog was put down with more than half of his life to spare! No, something dramatic happened for this dog to be so important......and its connected to Euros or Sherringford (if its a person). I'm guessing Redbeard's forced death is what caused young Sherlock to take up investigation and become the antisocial emotionless person he grew up to be. He was so attached to Redbeard that losing him so unnaturally totally drained his emotions. He just had to get to the bottom of what caused him to be put down. He had to investigate it.....alone and undistracted. And so it began...

The Lying Detective » Moriarty, Euros, Sherringford, Redbeard & Mycroft » January 15, 2017 4:21 am

Redbeard came to be in a serious condition and had to be put to death. Possibly caused by Euros. (see: http://sherlock.boardhost.com/viewtopic.php?id=7275)

As Sherlock hugs Redbeard listen to what he says:

"They're putting me down too now. No fun is it?"

Theory:
During childhood, Euros caused Redbeard to be in such a bad condition that the only way out was for him to be put to sleep. Poisoned arrows perhaps?

The Lying Detective » Moriarty, Euros, Sherringford, Redbeard & Mycroft » January 14, 2017 11:27 pm

More thoughts on Euros

Assuming she is related to the Holmes family, I believe that she will be a half-sister. Why half-sister? Her accent is clearly not like the Holmes family (we met the parents in Season 3). And, as mentioned above, the Sussex Vampire featured a 15yr old boy who wanted to poison his half-brother and practiced by shooting poisoned arrows at the dog. So Euros is definitely an evil one who kills (killed the real therapist and put her in a sack in a cupboard). I believe she may have killed or tried to kill Redbeard. She left clues for Sherlock in the note she procured from Culverton.....who she was introduced to by a mutual friend. Only one "spider" is powerful enough to make such introductions in that sort of "web". Moreover to get Culverton to hand over his daughter's note (which wasn't really necessary, as Euros could've written the note herself.....therefore, it goes only to show the power of the mutual friend who can make Culverton hand over such a personal and secret object).

Also, it shows that Culverton was part of the plan to setup the Baker Street meeting between Sherlock and Euros. Notice how he was so confident about stating that the real Faith was never at Baker Street, never met Sherlock and that Sherlock doesn't know her at all. Why else also, would he have agreed to hand over the note? Because it was all a plan to trick and get at Sherlock. So we can conclude that Culverton was in on that.

Something else to note about.....the note. The bloodstain. Why was it necessary to be there? How was it possible for the real Faith to get cut? No. I believe that the real note did NOT contain a bloodstain. After procuring the note, Euros inserted the "Miss me?" AND a bloodstain (for Sherlock to test). Notice that it was smudged over the word "Me". She said she added some deductions (plural) for Sherlock, but he didn't get the big one. We see that Sherlock only got one: the invisible "Miss Me?". But I don't think that was the big

The Lying Detective » Moriarty, Euros, Sherringford, Redbeard & Mycroft » January 14, 2017 9:52 pm

After 3 years of absence, I've got lots of theories and questions. I've decided to create a single post with them all to keep things a bit neat and trackable, and not all over the place. So here are my thoughts on:

Moriarty
Notice he has been totally and unusually absent from the first two episodes. All we ever get are verbal mentions of his name. Extremely unusual even by Mofftiss standards. But wait! This has happened before! Season 1. Moriarty is mentioned in the first two episodes, but only makes his actual appearance in the last one....ALIVE and well. Its hard to tell if Sherlock knows he's alive however. In TST he smacked the guy with the bust and said "Tell me about your boss, Moriarty. I know its him. It MUST be him!". I believe that it will be revealed that CAM and Culverton were all working for Moriarty in his new (and improved) criminal network.

Euros
Still a bit thrown back by this. I don't want to believe that she is "the other one". She is definitely remarkable however. Like someone else I know. She was able to "hide in plain sight" through the use of 3 disguises. Sherlock in all of his deductive powers could not detect her in the disguises. She also has intimate info on Sherlock. Who is she reminding me of??? Who else was able to hide in plain sight and even fool the great Sherlock Holmes with the use of fake attributes? Only one other person. Moriarty! At the end of TLD, her mannerisms and speech were so much like Moriarty, I could've sworn that she would've pulled off a mask and reveal herself to be Moriarty! So my thoughts are: do you think she could possibly be Moriarty's sister? Only blood could share such remarkable similarities. Afterall, we know that Moriarty has a sibling.....who no one ever focused on. How convenient for Sherlock to feel some sort of affection for Moriarty's sister! As he told Culverton whilst reminiscing ever so affectionately, "I spent a whole evening with her. We had chips. AND SHE LIKED ME

General Sherlock Discussion » 'The Final Problem' » January 14, 2017 8:27 pm

I strongly believe that "The Final Problem" will wrap up all the loose ends left behind in TRF such as:

- How Sherlock faked his death
- How Moriarty faked his death (yes he faked it)
- The meaning of "IOU" (this still puzzles me)
- What actually transpired between Mycroft and Moriarty.
- A little insight into the players in the children's kidnapping (Sherlock double perhaps)

My other fear is that this episode may possibly be the "final" showdown between Sherlock and Moriarty. So expect to hear Moriarty's ringtone when you least expect it and the look of horrific shock on Sherlock's face when it happens and Moriarty steps out of the shadows.

Moreover, Sherlock coming back after 4mins was like the ending of TGG (only that TGG was way more awesome!).....we know he obviously wouldn't shoot the bomb (or would he?)!  Either way, we know that the bomb would NOT have been detonated and kill our beloved characters! But nevertheless, the ending of TGG was wayyyy better because even though we knew there wouldn't be an explosion, we still wanted to know how they would be Stayin' Alive!!!!
