If it's Johnlock you know:

At some point John will refer to Sherlock as "georgous."

It will be mentioned that Sherlock uses expensive shampoo.

Someone will say "Oh god yes."

Much will be made of the fact that although Sherlock looks "pale and cold"  he actually radiates heat.

Anyone care to join in?

Both John and Sherlock do have a very distinctive smell that turns the other on. Usually a mixture of shampoo, sweat, chemicals, tea, and something that is absolutely individual to them.

No problem, I like reading them.

We should really keep writing the "What always happens" list. As soon as I'll pick up "Like a Landslide" again, I'll make a sport of avoiding all those.

You are absolutely right. I almost spilled my coffee when I read that.
Some things apparently need to be said to make a Johnlock story right.

Such as:
At some point Sherlock will carefully stroke over John's scar at his shoulder.
And at some point John will get his hands into Sherlock's curls and fondle them.
And at some other point one of them will step out of the shower with damp hair while the other one can't take his eyes away...

There is also a lot of tasting going on when they are kissing. Someone alsways seems to taste like coffee and/or the last takeaway dinner ...

In my last one there was a mixture of tea and toothpaste.

Honestly, do you go for taste while kissing? In real life, I mean. I don't. Hubby tastes like hubby, fullstop. Okay, he once realised I had chocolate without him when we kissed, but other than that ... I don't know!

Hm. After hubby stopped smoking his first cigarette in the morning I realised that he suddenly only tasted like coffee. That was very nice! LOL

Right. That's interesting. They can start kissing where- and whenever they like, NEVER one of them goes: "Urrgh!!"
I think that's why it is called "fiction".

Hm, I do register if my boyfriend tastes like something specific like chocolate or coffee or, yeah, cigarettes. But none of that is really doing anything for me in terms of turning me on additionally...

Harriet, it took me a while, but... with your "The Three Fingers Problem" do you actually mean what I think you mean...?

...in the fics they taste good, smell good, look good... but right, that's probably part of Johnlock.

Yes. I. Do.

Isn't it tedious? You can wake me up any time at night, and I can tell you how to...

That's fine. As long as you don't start sharing your knowledge in the middle of the night without being asked.
