true, although I have been wondering how AJ was supposed to find her. With all the random moves and personality changes. He had to follow Sherlock to manage that.

Yeah well as has been pointed out to me, I don't think Mary actually wanted him to catch up with her. But he'd soon gather she had left home and so he would search the world for her..and at least he wouldn't be near her family.

There is a quote from the Russian fan page, unfortunately without the sourse. Benedict says (and I translate as good as I can):
"He turns to a therapeut, isn't that telling? I think he's becoming more human, allows himself to care. Mycroft wasn't too far off when talking about the danger of sentiments. Sherlock is shocked by his own humanity."

Can be an indication that the scene with Ella was real...

Could be.  I suspected he might be going to her for understanding of human nature - using her as a consultant!  Interesting that sentiment is still dangerous but he's having to go there to save John, presumably.  Thanks for the translation!

There be dragons...
Yeah, he is used to relying on John for everything worth knowing about human emotions. But why doesn't he ask Molly or Mrs. Hudson? Molly is already in the know, but maybe Sherlock thinks she's on John's side? I imagine he wouldn't want to burden Mrs. Hudson with the knowledge of John pushing him away...
Either way, Sherlock seeing Ella is easily among the most poignant scenes of TST for me, fighting for the top rank with Molly giving Sherlock the note.

My thinking was it was because he sees Ella as the expert, in the same way he might engage a hacker or a bloodhound!

I think so too and she has the added advantage of knowing John.

Exactly. She is an expert and John was visiting her when he lost Sherlock. The same situation, there might be the same solution. I do not expect that he told her anything about himself, just described what happened to John.

THEORETICALLY she could never talk to Sherlock about John, medial confidentiality and all that.

But in Sherlockverse, it surely works. ;-)

I know.
But she doesn't have to give Sherlock any information about John.
Sherlock can just yabber away about him, knowing she knows all about it- but neither of them have to acknowledge the fact.

Well If Mycroft could get Ellas notes on John . Sherlock probably could get them too.

To be fair, I imagine Sherlock knew what he said to Ella...maybe most of us work it out.
Altho the war part is one thing.
Sherlock may find it quite uncomfortable to even think about what John suffered after Sherlock's fake death. Yet not as traumatic as what he has suffered since.

T6T is for me full of headscratchers, I needed some time, to make the list in my mind. I hope, the topic is not dead yet ;]

To begin: I believe, I have an explanation, how Mary's narcotic "note" was supposed to work.
Mary kept the paper only with the glowed hand - it was not the chloroform,  but sort of "contact anaesthetic", by the analogy to "contact poison". Contact poisons really do exist, and there is no need to swallow or to inhale them - to touch the substance is enough.
I have no idea, if contact anaesthetics really exist too, but in "Sherlock's" "reality", I am sure, they do, and probably they are highly appreciated by every intelligence. Since Sherlock worked many times for Mycroft, and Mycroft used too cooperate with MI6 and CIA, I guess, the part of Sherlock's training was identification of these agents. He could smell the false note (to be sure), or not, but he was already drugged, and going to fall asleep anyway.
I wonder, if the vision if the past, we could see, was caused by the anaesthetic, or was it only the usual dream.

Very plausible, I think.

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

There is something that is stopping Sherlock remembering everything...but I think the dream sequence is a real incident from his childhood.

I forgot to add - I am wondering: did Mary always carry with her this "note", as protection (not so stupid idea - small, rises no suspicions, easy to manipulate someone to touch it), or from beginning was she prepared to drug Sherlock, and never wanted to trust him?

My own headscratchers: (but some of them were already discussed in this topic):

1 - Let's start from the first scene in T6T (my favorite, it is almost like Buckingham alace scenes in SIB) - there is five persons in the room, but only Sherlock seems to notice presence of Vivian Norbury. Every time only four persons are mentioned, she has nothing to do: she is just to seat and be ignored. Why was she there at all?
Why, when Lady Smallwood was the suspect, Vivian was not detained and heard too? Was she invisible?
BTW I am really sorry about Vivian Norbury. She was treated like a piece of the furniture. It is no justification, of course, but some sort of explanation, why she became angry enough, to commit treason...

2. When Greg became so utterly stupid? I mean, he was always slower, then Sherlock (like most people), but: Sherlock says him, there were only six busts of Margaret Thatcher (why not some police IT specialist?), and five of them are already smashed. The body lays beside. The sixth bust is not a chance to catch the killer - it is most likely the last chance. Five years old child could understand - police needs to find the sixth bust, and set the trap. There was enough time to prepare everything, but Sherlock was the only one, who waited.

..to be continued.

I believe, it is Sherlock, he does not let himself remeber to clearly.

I think Mary deliberately carried the note with her on this occasion because she knew Sherlock was on to her, and that she was likely going to have to run away and that he might try to stop to her (because he sent her a hell of a text, and arranged a strange meeting place).

And I think Sherlock knew that Mary was going to drug him and run away, and that's why he's already attached the tracker to the memory stick.

I think it's actually well meant on both sides.

I think the dream was a recurring dream about an event that Sherlock can't remember.  I'm pretty sure it will be connected to Eurus.

I agree about Vivian Norbury, Naavy - she should have been a suspect when Lady Smallwood was.  I'll have to rewatch, but weren't there three busts at the end?  And Sherlock takes one, and Greg takes the other two?

No, there were two smashed busts, belonging to (late) miss Harker, and three before.
But even, if there were more left - there should be some policemen in both places, not Sherlock alone.

I think so too, it must be some connection.
