I have a question, since it was something that came to mind when I was thinking about a fic I might write.  Sorry if this is a bit vulgar (though I suppose that's subjective).

If something is very unpleasant/bad/etc. in North America we'll say it "sucks." Some people say "blows," but generally "suck" is used.  Is this used in the UK or their an equivalent phrase that's different?

We use 'sucks', too....part of  the U.S international takeover!  Tee Hee.

Possibly  a politer version would be ' it's pants'.

OK, thanks.  I was thinking and then all of a sudden went "Wait...do they even say that in the UK?" I couldn't think of anything that could take its place or why you wouldn't use it, but I wasn't sure.

I think Ofcom's report on offensive language might be useful as a list of British swear words for Sherlock fanfic writers. Warning, offensive language
