Well, according to canon, Moriarty has two brothers (both called James, due to some negligence on Doyle´s part).
Moriarty´s brothers planning revenge on Sherlock is not a new idea either. A pastiche called "Execution of Sherlock Holmes" written by Donald Serrell Thomas toys with the idea of Moriarty´s and Milverton´s brothers kidnapping Sherlock, accusing him of shooting Charles Augustus Milverton and holding a fake court case over him, so that they can psychologically torture him and hang him as a "criminal" later... so it was done before, in a quite ingenious manner and it can happen again.

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?
