I missed where John is on the "edge of sanity".  Not sure about that one. ???  He's defnitely a wounded warrior, and he follows Sherlock around, mostly heedless to his own safety half the time, and he doesn't choose well in the romance department, but that doesn't mean he's lost touch with reality or anything. Wrong thread for this, so ignore me.

Well, it has been said on this board that John is very likely going to beat up his wife and child eventually, so there you go.

If it's the conversation I'm thinking of, then you've maybe misunderstood.   (On another thread, there was some talk about somebody who can't/doesn't always control violent impulses being more of a risk than somebody who can/does, but that's a world of difference from saying John is very likely to do it!).  If it wasn't the conversation I'm thinking of, then I've misunderstood, so never mind

I wouldn't say that John is on the edge of sanity, but he does seem to need Sherlock's help with his mental health.

The baby not being John's wouldn't take it out of the picture, especially if it was discovered after the baby was born.  (Historically, at least, John would still be the father as the child was born while he was married to Mary.   And in other ways, he'd be the father too, as he'd be the one playing that role).

I don´t want this series and John´s character to descend into such depressive quagmire.

I hope that he raises his child or, if that would not happen, wakes up one day and realises that his marriage was just a delusional hallucination caused by anti-depressants he had to take after TRF.

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

What?  Huh. If so, that'll be the day that I'll stop watching Sherlock. I see John as a man of honor, and nothing is so dishonorable as domestic abuse. I'm no Mary fan, but I do think she cares about John, even though she's been written in a way to make her uber-unsympathetic to the Sherlock fans.

They'd both be so much calmer and happier if they'd just shag and get it over with.

*realizes she said that out loud*
*crawls back to corner with Watson bear*

That's what Sherlock needs to do--  crawl into his corner with his Watson bear. And stuff.  Yes. Works for me.

Everyone should have a Watson Bear.

My other teddy is named Benidict Cumberbear.  No surprises there.

I think that was a typo.

All my teddy bears are stuffed cats (teddy cats?)

What is it with people calling everything teddies?!
Our kids at school do it and it drives me nuts!
It's only a teddy if it's a bear!
Otherwise it is a stuffed animal, or even a stuffed toy!

Here in the States, a teddy has to be a bear. But I do like the idea of a teddy cat, why not. But yeah, they're stuffed animals. Perhaps we're showing our age, bb.

I call them cuddly toys.  To me, a stuffed animal is one that's deceased and made lifelike through the wonder of taxidermy.  Not quite so cuddly.

Back to Mary: i think that the writers will get exactly for other path as everybody now expects her to die. If she is to disaapear from John's life, it can be a divorce (modern time, ahem), she can run away and hide herself to protect John, she can dissapear without giving notice...

Yes, that was a typo.  Damn I need new glasses.

In my life I have loved many a stuffed creature.  Bears, dogs, cats, once even a Wookie.and another time an Ewok.

Hmm, that's right. The fine art of taxidermy results in stuffed animals, too, now that you mention it. Not cuddly at all.

Reading a fanfic in which Mary dies in a car crash, I just realised I don't want her to die by accident or disease. I hope that the character leaves the show (one way or another) for a reason.

(Sounds a bit morbid, but then, the whole thread does.)

It's  fair discussion, as the subject is canonical.
I only hope it brings the boys together,... and John isn't his usual arse and somehow it all becomes Sherlock's fault.
