I've made a career of hopping from one thing to another - I guess I'm easily bored.  I have been at various times and in various places an English teacher, free lance writer, editor, and currently work as an education specialist for a state agency.

Before the job I'm doing now I've not had that many jobs despite being 24.

I've worked in a café/Burger joint and bakery as a salesperson, flipping burgers, cleaning and making sandwiches...
Then I became an office hand at a job center; pretty much taking calls from very frustrated and angry people; even being threatened... It's made me incredibly humble when I call anyplace like that.

And the PA style work I did as a delegation host for the Irish performers and core delegation at the Eurovision I do count as a job too.

I don't have that much experience behind me. but the job I have now at the hospital is amazing! I wish I could do it for the rest of my life.

I wish I was an Astrophysicist myself... it's a field that really interests me! Big kudos from me too!!

Don't you dare! I come here for purely recreational purposes. I always ditch my robe and wig before coming here. I don't think you've heard me complaining even once about the many misrepresentations of legal issues in Sherlock!

Well, La Jolie, I was going to let you off the hook!
Was all set to live & let live until....you tweaked my curiousity when you mentioned "the many misrepresentations of legal issues in Sherlock!"
I know there are some, but are there any that maybe "bug" you?
Any you find amusing?
Any you care to discuss?
Subtle me...bait, bait, bait...ha ha!

Well, where to start...

One of the issues I have is that in lots of their cases, much of the evidence that Greg & the Met obtained with Sherlock's help would be refuted in court simply because it was obtained in a highly irregular way. (You know, Sally and Anderson really have a big, big point there.)

Then, Sherlock (and John) get away with so many things that would, if this were real life, be properly investigated. It's certainly beyond the powers of any real Lestrade to hush ALL of that up (e. g. the beating up of the CIA agent in ASIB).

The whole Moriarty trial bugs me, too. He's in custody all the time - how can he manipulate the jury in such detail and with such technical skill when he's sitting in a cell? If it's not him but his network doing it, how to they communicate? I also find it completely unbelievable that not one member of the jury would have spoken out that they were being manipulated.

Minor issues include the German jury trial in "Many Happy Returns" (seriously, jury trials in Germany, of all places?). That's all I can think of at the moment.

But it doesn't really take away from my overall enjoyment of the show. I'm a great believer in the suspension of disbelief. I love detective stories, always have, and I know they can't be a proper representation of how the police and the courts work, or they would be SOOOOO boring.

There. Risen to the bait but not taken it, wouldn't you say?

Excellent!  Facinating!  Made my brow furrow & my eyes squint as I pondered the situations you brought up!
Well done, La Jolie but methinks you may be in denial...your response is Exactly what I put the bait out for!!
Thanks a bunch and out of all that you listed, the one that really touched a nerve (I'd forgotten!) was that Wiley Moriarty & the jury!  That was a bit of Magic, that was, ha ha!
I am also impressed that knowing what you know legal-wise that you are able to watch it at all.
Good to be able to suspend hard-core reality once in a while & go for a bit of brilliant fun!

Technical writer. I say 'technical' because I'd prefer to just say 'writer' but don't want anyone to think I'm a journalist or someone looking for stories. But I am a professional writer in technical and business fields.

Phantom Lady observed that a great many of us here are affiliated with health-services of one sort or another...I find that to be facinating!
What's that say about us Sherlockians?!
Big-hearted, self-sacrificing, servants all?   Sherlock himself works in "human services" of a sort, so we are naturally drawn to fellows of like ilk?
We are a passionate/compassionate lot & our favorite High functioning Social Path is as well, tho he may not readily reveal his heart as such (except for Mrs. Hudson of course!) ... makes sense, no?

It really is remarkable, Harobed. I like your theory!

Of course, there is not just passionate/compassionate Sherlock to identify with, but also Doctor Watson. He's a bit of an unusual doctor admittedly ("I know how to sprain people", honestly!) but he has a lot of very positive doctoral qualities that I find admirable, too.

This really deserves more research, if it can be done. WHY do the health people among us like the show so much? And do  the people among us who are in other, totally different professions, like the show for different reasons? Do the health people like it for the human touch, while the writers/translators/journalists among us like it for the great plotlines and brilliant character arcs, while the legal/police people among us like it for the mysteries and the satisfaction of solving a case, while the scientists among us like it for the deductions?

The inspiraton for Sherlock Holmes was a doctor, of course (Joseph Bell).  As was Arthur Conan Doyle himself.  I don't know if that's got anything to do with it.  Probably not!

My boss was on BBC Radio yesterday.

(skip to the Childhood Obesity part)

I was a big part of the research to find out that 70% of our patients lose weight and maintain it and that the parents also lose weight. I'm a bit proud!
