I won't join this time. Unfortunately I didn't have enough spare time last year, which made me feel a little bad

Oh, what was that word again, when you write a post just to push the thread up on the active topic list? Well, whatever it is called, I am hereby doing it.

Bump? Could that be the word? And up we go.

Absolutely! That was a blast last year. Not only did I have a great time writing a fic, I recieved a fantastic one in return! This is the *only* way I want to celebrate Christmas.

A tentative "maybe" from me, too.

I'm afraid I'd have a lot of reservations about certain pairings and stuff, but if that's OK, I think I'm in.

Oh, and can we have more time this year, I think last year it was only a fortnight, and that'll certainly be too short for me. My kids won't thank me if I put Real Life on complete hold just before Christmas...

This sounds nice, but I'm not sure if my writing is sufficient enough to entertain...
How long shoud the text be?

There is no limit. Mine was quite short, no worry.

And we had some basic rules if you want to look them up, they should be somewhere at the beginning of the thread.

If I am not very much mistaken, you can mention the pairings/things you wouldn't want to write about. I would definitely mention AU this time around, because I don't want to write any AU ever again.

As far as I remember you did a good job, though

...and I think it was you, my dear, who gave me the right idea about what to do!

That's why I was a little worried about signing up. I mean, my specifics would be

no AU
no crossovers
no slash
no porn
no pairings beyond canon

and that doesn't leave much, does it?

No, it leaves a lot. It's important to be clear about that

I agree. It leaves fluff, it leaves a pure and simple case fic... I'm sure it won't be a problem, La Jolie.

I also think that we should ask for four things before we start writing:

1 What would you want to read about?
2 What would be your deal breaker in reading?
3 What are you willing to write about?
4 What are your deal breakers in writing?

For example, I would love to read a historical AU but there are very little eras could write about, so I would not want to write it, but read it.

I have contacted Kerkerian via PM. She hosted the event last year (and brilliantly so), and I have asked her if she would like to do it again. If not, I'd volunteer with organizing, but there's still some time before it gets seriuos.

The first step should be finding out who takes part. So far we have, in alphabetical order

crazybbcamerican
LaJolie
mrshouse
NotYourHousekeeperDear
Schmiezi
silverblaze
SilverMoonDragonB
SolarSystem
SusiGo
tonnaree

And hopefully some more? Is was such a wonderful event last year, I can only recommend taking part. Last year, we had some members volunteering to beta and brit-pick, so if any of the non-native speakers wonders about that, don't worry.

Me! I would like to participate again. It was so much fun last year (ok, I was very lucky with my prompt) and I still get kudos every now and then on AO3 for my story. So count me in as well.

I totally agree with no porn, which is what we did last time, but I'm not sure about the rest.  No slash?  Does that mean no Johnlock?  I love writing/ reading Johnlock- I think Johnlock is a fascinating slash pairing and almost the whole point of Sherlock fanfic!  Also while I understand that AU is not everyone's cup of tea, but I was really hoping to use this Secret Santa to try my hand at it and stretch myself a bit.
I think we need to come up with an open ended prompt for everyone, but maybe have some method like last year when the receiver can detail their own fic preferences...

Oh no, my dear housekeeper (what do we call you for short!?!?!), I agree with you,  I meant my list just that way, as personal specifics that I would not want to write/read. I didn't mean it as a framework for everyone. Just because I don't see the attraction of slashy AU crossovers doesn't mean I'm entitled to spoil the fun for everyone else, of course.

I just thought that distributing the prompts among the writers might become a bit of a pain for Schmiezi or whoever organises it if everyone lists as many restrictions as I did, so I wondered whether it would make sense for me sign up at all.

But anyway, I see there is a brand new thread now dedicated to this year's event, so let's shift the discussion over there.
