I was thinking about a stapler, although I'm not sure if stapling counts as eternally joining .

I was thinking stapler, too! Wasn't sure it completely fit. And shoot, the poetic descriptiveness sounded so familiar too… think I came across that one when I looked up some riddles online! (but of course didn't want to go back and search again and spoil the answer, so stapler, it is)
