Sorry, but I do not agree. I cannot understand why one has to distinguish between "good" friendship and "vulgar" (sexual and emotional) love. Why should it be impossible for a deep friendship to turn into something different but equally good? How often does it happen in real life that you fall in love with someone you have known as a friend for a long time? I suppose it is not unheard of.
And there are lots and lots of films and novels about this very subject (like "When Harry met Sally"). But of course most of them deal with men and women which seems to be judged in a different way.

Hey, let me please point out that I'm not homophobic, people may get the wrong impressions here. And, as I said, I'm not even against johnlock fanfic etc., I even enjoyed some of them. And my personal opinion is actually the same for m/f pairings, like with Mulder and Scully I much preferred the friendship over the romantic relationship. Their banter really made the show.

I'm not sure whether this is a thread where non shippers are invited voice their opinion, if not I deeply apologise, but anyway. I find romantic stories not very interesting in general, they are often cliched, people looking into each other's eyes and realising something etcetera. That's what I find so commonplace and vulgar, maybe cliche is a better word for it. I don't like love songs either, they're thirteen a dozen, not very interesting in general. A song about a strong friendship on the other hand, really special.

Just my personal preference; I find the friendship more interesting than the romantic relationship. No need to flame me ladies.

I understand what you're saying Silver.  I consider myself a very romantic person but I don't like cookie cutter romance.  In my life or in my fiction.  Friends are often shocked to find out I don't read romance novels or watch those sicking romantic comedy films that come out 3 a week.

For example, I consider "Rob Roy" to be very romantic.  Not a movie a lot of people would classify as romantic. But the way they portray the love between Rob and his wife Mary feels real and raw and deep.  They are a mature couple that has lived and fought and loved together through good and bad.   And when Rob looks at her and says, "Do ya know how fine you are to me Mary McGregor, "  I freaking melt!

In my opinion Johnlock would not be cookie cutter or common.  I think that if the relationship on the show was deepened to include romantic and physical love it would be amazing because their relationship is already amazxing to begin with.

Not sure how well I'm explaining myself but..................there you go.

I think you're explaining  yourrself perfectly well.
For me it's not about a lack of understanding, I just don't think it''ll ever happen in BBC Sherlock.

Yes, tonnaree, you're explaining yourself perfectly. And apart from the fact it's been ages that I saw "Rob Roy" and have no real memory of it whatsoever, I feel exactly the same about everything else you've just said.

Btw, me as a Johnlock newby has the feeling that Sherlock is the man "in charge" concerning keen looks. Am I right? Don't see them with John that often.

Possible... now that I think about it...
We should make a list. With screencaps. And see who wins.

The really "durchdringenden" (what's the English word?) looks are Sherlock's imo.

Thanks Tonnaree, maybe I was expressing myself too harshly, alcohol + online communication = no good. Never heard of Rob Roy but I might check it out. Now I'm thinking about it I can't think of a single romantic story I really liked. The Horse Whisperer maybe, but I think I liked that despite the romance. That was more about healing and irreversible decisions.

durchdringenden is piercing, I think.

This is a moot point, as Sherlock and John have no physical intimacy.

Sorry, besley, that is simply off topic here in this thread. This is "The comprehensive Johnlock guide" and not a discussion about if they have physical intimacy or not.

And what would it tell us about John and Sherlock if we deduced that only Sherlock looks at John piercingly and John looks at Sherlock in a different manner?
What do those looks mean, for example?

I think John seriously impresses Sherlock here.
