Still, I don't think Sherlock "fancied" her or anything, he was just fascinated by her, and admired the fact that she was "mildly intelligent".

That's one of my favorite scenes. It's so genuine, without being overly sappy. John's helped him come a pretty long way at that point when it comes to his ability to know and appreciate that relationship.

Yes, a wonderful scene. A bit off topic but I also love the one at the end of TGG when he says to John that it was good what he tried to do. I think it's the first time he's bringing himself to acknowledge John's loyalty and friendship.

I agree with that moment at the end of TGG. You can see their friendship evolving and each of them acknowledging it to the other in small ways.
