Agree, it's a really fine work

I finished it, and I think it was okay. About twice as long as it should have been, given the territory it covered. I had to skim a couple of chapters towards the end, when it got too rough for me, but I got through it. I was *very* disappointed that it turned out to be only pre-slash, not a true slash story. I would give it a C+, I guess.

Yea.  That's about how I felt at the end also.  I wanted so much more.

All right, I need to confess something.

I am feeling exactly the same way about it. It started so promising, But then I thought again and again about the things I would have written diffrently. Make John more selfassured ( a lot more, that is!), for example, change the pace, include Sheerlock's POV, even though that would be tricky ...

I don't like that attitude of myself, thinking "I could do better!", but yesterday I caught myself re-writing the beginning in my head. Now I'm seriously trying to figure out if I'm going to write a fic like that myself or not.

Back when I was writing fic (in another fandom), my philosophy always was to a) write what I knew and b) write what made me happy. To me, that was always the only two criteria I needed to at least start a story, to see where it'd go. Rewriting someone else's work, just to make it pretty or to conform to my own ideas, doesn't sound like fun to me, lol.

The problem is that (a) due to my psychological studies the topic is endlessly intriguing to me, and (b) I would love to write it. The only thing that keeps me from starting right away is that the basic idea was not mine.

It is not merely about making something better. When I read the sumary I was like "Oh, I wish I had written that one!" And then it turned out to be not perfect.

I guess I'll do some plotting and then see if there would be enough of my own ideas in the fic or not.

You would put a whole new spin on it, I'm sure. Although the idea was sparked in you when you read the other story, that doesn't mean you couldn't make it so completely different that maybe no one but you could even tell where your story's plot bunny came from. I say, go for it! Again, if it makes you happy writing it, then go for it. Fan fic, IMO, is for FUN, both in the writing (even though writing actually can be very hard work) and the reading.

I just started this last night and am very impressed with the quality of writing.  Nice job Schmiezi!  Sherlock and John in a cottage in a remote Scottish village  .  Oh my! Can't wait to get back to it!

Right? It's such a romantic background. I could almost feel myself being there.
Loved that one, thank you Schmiezi!

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

You're welcome!

Found another one, but I would not really recommend from my heart.
Would be interesting, though, what you think.
The idea and the story is quite "nice": Short before Reichenbach; John is asked by Mycroft if he would die for Sherlock.
So everything is inverted. John "dies", Sherlock suffers.
BUT: IMO it is much too short (I couldn't find my way into it) and it could have been written better.
(I think next time I will ask our rec-list again.  )

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

I'm always a bit unsure where to post....

So I just finished "Nebulous". The first fanfic of Kid Omega. And yes, you can somehow see that.
At the beginning I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. But then.... It's a nice piece.
The main theme is John and Sherlock meeting again after TRF, discovering their feelings for each other and then trying to keep up a relationship. Which is not so easy for both of them as Sherlock is very.... sherlocky.  And that's what I like in fanfiction in general.
There is a bit of everything. Sex and fun (and sex) and problems, violence, one or two cases which I can't remember  and also a lot of romance.

http://archiveofourown.org/works/897922/chapters/1734862
Nebulous
Kid Omega (Kid0mega)
Summary:
Post-Fall, nearing the end of Sherlock's three-year "death". John has been dating Mary for the last few months, but he is still far from himself. The return of Sherlock changes John's life entirely, and the detective finds himself feeling things he thought long deleted.

“No. Say it. Did you miss me?” John felt his pulse throbbing in his brain. There was something heady about the idea of having power over Sherlock Holmes.
“With every second of every day.”

Sounds interesting. It will go straight to my kindle. There will be a 10 hour train and ferry journey next Sunday, so the kindle can't be too full!

I nearly went into a full blown squealing frenzy when I discovered it...Sherlock and Firefly together???? ...YES!  It's not long, but I ended up enjoying it greatly

EarlGreyTea68 has posted a 2 chapter ficlet called Three New Messages (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1008300/chapters/2000140) and it's ADORABLE and you should all go read it RIGHT NOW.

Basically, when John thinks he's dying he leaves Sherlock a voicemail...

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Went straight to my Kindle, Wholocked.

And here is another one:

"Five Years Prior" by Feverishsea - Told from Lestrade's POV and slightly AU as Sherlock and John meet five years before the beginning of series 1. Well written, sometimes funny, with good characterisations. Johnlock but non-explicit.

Thank you for that one. It is absolutely lovely, the second chapter even more than the first. *sigh*
