Schmiezi, I would recommend this one, for example, it's not very long, but I liked it a lot:
Thank you, I'll take a look at it right away.

For those who enjoy a little Johnlock AU and like Medieval stuff, this would be a good fan fic to read!
Song of the Dauntless Knight ~
I recently finished reading it and found it to be quite enjoyable , and romantic

Ah yes I remember reading that one. It was good. If you liked that you might like The Measure of a Gentleman, which is a P&P AU.

Oh yes! I love that one! Read it a couple of months ago, been thinking of reading it again...being the P&P fan I am, when I came across this - a Sherlock/Pride and Prejudice fusion - well...I couldn't stop squealing from excitement for quite a while , and certainly once I read it I was not at all disappointed

This one has no slash but it still apparently has two chapters to go, which I suspect will be pure slash so here you go.
The Curious Incident of the Dog, the Detective and the Devil’s Daughter
It's cold outside and Sherlock and John are called out to examine a body.
Except it's the wrong one.
Edited because Android tablets are beyond annoying for trying to copy/paste.
Now, yes this is a WIP however, the plot is largely resolved by the end of Chapter 20, and as I said I suspect the last two chapters are just going to be smut so you can safely read this with no lingering questions even though it's incomplete

The Norwood Live Builders (
It's a post-reunion fake relationship trope, with casefic based on the canon story about the Norwood Builders (case of the / adventure of the, can't remember)
I adore flawedamethyst's fics and this one is no exception :-)

After having downloaded these two - thanks for the supply, Wholocked - I would like to recommend this one:
It is a very different take on Sherlock's return. Very intense and maybe not everyone's cup of tea but I liked it very much. At one point I had to have a break because it was so … well. See for yourself if you like. There's lots of angst.

I've been living under a rock (not news) so had never heard of omega verse until today. A very short search led me to a good story that not only explained the world of alphas, betas and omegas, but also gave me a lot of detail of who does what to whom, why, and how. *smile* This is definitely not only AU but also AR (alternate reality). I enjoyed it-- it closely followed some of the cases we saw S/J work on, on the show, but when it comes to personal relationships, well.... this is another world.
Complete in 14 chapters, Held In Trust by PlainJane. Definitely rated explicit. Oh, and the pairings are not just Sherlock and John but also Mycroft and Greg, although the latter pair doesn't loom large in the story.

Oh, it's a though one. I'm in the middle of it. Every time I stop reading, I feel guilty for abandoning Sherlock inmidst of the mess he's in. Need to finish it soon!

Ah yes omegaverse fics can be...interesting. I've never read one with a bonding call trope before though.
If you don't mind alternate reality fics like that, try it combines omegaverse, bonding and sentinel/guide tropes. It's quite good but you have to be willing to work in a completely different universe. Characterisations are surprisingly good.

I don't really know what omegaverse actually is...so I always skip over those fics...I've tried looking up what it is, but I can never find a clear explanation

I've only read the one story, so I'm no expert by any means. But in the one fic I read, it's that people are born either one gender or the other, male or female. But then besides that, some are born as omegas (John was one in the story), having both external male and internal female organs. The males who are omegas can actually carry babies and give birth. Omegas go into heat cycles, usually starting in the mid-teens, and they put out a pheromone scent "call" to their alpha bondmates-- somewhere in their area, their alpha (Sherlock was John's, of course) is waiting for the scent, and when he or she senses it, she comes running for that first bonding. It's not just sexual but also a signed contract with the family. I was never sure who the betas are, but I presume they're the people who are neither alphas nor omegas-- just "regular" folks. I read that story in about 2-3 hours. If you want to take a look at something brand new (and believe me, I've been reading slash fan fic for 10 years, and I didn't think there could be anything brand new left!), you might take a quick look at it, just to see if you find it interesting.

Do you know where this idea comes from? Sounds too well thought through to be a spontanious idea. More like something from a SciFi novel or something?!

Nope. Never heard of it before. But apparently there was a lot of buzz about it at last weekend's Sherlock convention in Seattle. Like a lot of things to do with fan fic, it was probably one author's idea to start with, something that caught on, so that others starting writing about the same type of reality.

Ah I posted a link to the primer in the roundtable discussion; thought I'd posted it here.
Actually, I think I'll make a new thread for it.

Just so you know, I only post things in the masterlist if they've been specifically recced in the rec threads. If I tried to keep up with every other thread(s) on the forum I'd get pretty lost! So please do ensure that you post here (or PM me) if there's a rec elsewhere that should be here. Clear as mud? Probably.
So, in that vein, please allow me to most emphatically rec Schmiezi's fic Crossing Bridges
(AO3: or FF.net )
Looking back later in life, John always felt that he should have seen it coming sooner. But the first weeks after the Heroic Return had been so filled up with moving back in and press conferences and recovering from the recent months and explaining and forgiving and soothing hurt friends and solving that case Lestrade had brought to them probably just to come to terms with Sherlock again that John only realised something was seriously wrong with his friend when it was too late for an easy way out.
I absolutely loved it. Reunion fics tend to be a bit hit and miss with me but I love the way Schmiezi picked it up a few weeks post-reunion rather than try to deal with the reunion itself (imo most fics which deal the reunion fail to remain true to character). I also loved that Sherlock remained mostly in character even whilst struggling with depression. Thanks Shmiezi! (Incidentally, thanks for my diagnosis; now I know what it is that I suffer from!)

Half way through Not The King's Men right now. It is very good. I do enjoy hurt/comfort but damn, this is some epic whump.

Me, too. She's moving way too slowly for my taste, but I understand that everyone has their own style, and all authors have to get to their story's point, moving from point A to point Z, in their own way and in their own timing.
I hope this ends up to be H/C (hurt/comfort), but if it is, she better start ladling on some comfort pretty damned soon! So far, I'm in chapter 14, and there's been almost 100% hurt.
