Agree. And even worse are parts of what Thomas Clarkson wrote about.
On the other hand, the Hochschild book has also a lot of truly hilarious parts.

Speaking of Thomas Clarkson - how did you perceive his character? ![]()

Hm, I'm not really sure yet, Harriet. At first I had the impression as if he was a bit... how should I put it... obsessed, almost a bit unhealthily obsessed. He sure made an impression by presenting those chains right on the dinner table, but I wasn't so sure about his... mental health at first. But he grew on me, and I particularly liked the scene in which he and Wilberforce came to Pitt to tell him about their plan to 'cheat'. I would say he lived for the abolition, and that came across pretty good.
But this is getting a bit off topic here, isn't it...? Moderator? ![]()

But btw, I watched Amazing Graze for the first time tonight and just had to do this pic, because I thought he was so cute in that scene:
Such a wonderful film isn't it?
And he is so good in it! Makes me cry every time...

Not for me. Have to walk up the stairs to my bed. Could be dangerous.
But I will drink to it with a glass of water.
