Re: Finally: The Sherlock/John picture thread

This is another Sherlock and John without John pic. It is the very moment Sherlock asks "John?" after Moriarty said "Your friends will die if you don't."

Re: Finally: The Sherlock/John picture thread

Love that last one

Anyway, sorry if it's a bit off-topic, but I wanted to come back to "I don't have friends, just got one" scene. From what I often read from other people, I feel I may have misunderstood that scene. Ok, 1st thing I got the same way as everyone did is that Sherlock seems pretty upset that John holds him a grudge. He realises that he's gone too far (Well, at lest, John's behaviour shows him that something's wrong, but I'm not even sure that if John hadn't said anything, he would have realised that telling John he didn't have friends was kinda rude to John lol), wants to redeem himself and tells John he don't have friends, he's just got one. There, I think he is sincere. And he seems genuinely upset that it doesn't change anything and that John walks away.

But after that, he looks like he is intensely thinking and that realisation washes over his face. People often say that he was looking for another compliment to tell John and then runs after him saying "John you're amazing" and stuff. But I've always understood that scene as Sherlock being upset about John walking away but immediately thinking about his "U.M.Q.R.A" and realising that "HOUND" can be an acronym rather than a word itself. And to me (and although i'm a die hard Johnlocker! hehe), he's already forgotten about what has just happened and tells John he's amazing just because he's all excited to have found something new for the case, indirectly thanks to John. Which is funny because John takes these compliments as genuine while they actually aren't really.

Well, I don't know if that's clear, lol.

Anyway, here's another pic of Sherlock alone but which comes from one of my favourite Sherlock/John moment. I've made this capture in The Great Game just after Sherlock realises Lestrade and his crew read John's blog and that Lestrade asks him if it's true that he didn't know the Earth turned around the Sun. I love Sherlock's face there. For someone saying he divorced himself from emotions, he looks really really upset there. And John's body language in this scene is amazing. As soon as Sherlock says "wait, you read his blog?", you can see John feeling really uncomfortable, and when Lestrade asks that stuff about the Earth and that Donova makes fun of Sherlock, you can imagine John telling himself "Oh God, Sherlock's not gonna like this. What have I done? I know i've hurt him there" etc... So so cute!

Re: Finally: The Sherlock/John picture thread

This is wonderful. It is a very important moment and I agree with you that John instantly regrets having mentioned this in his blog. It reminds me a bit of the moment with Seb when Sherlock introduces John as his friend and John says "colleague".

Re: Finally: The Sherlock/John picture thread

Yes, indeed, another great moment. I love to think (but then that must be my Johnlock obsession lol) that Sherlock is unable to control his emotions when it comes to John.

Here he seems proud to present John as his friend, and I can also feel bitterness too, the way he emphasizes the word "friend", it feels like "See Seb, you made fun of me when we were at uni, thinking I was a freak and that no one would ever want to be my friend, but actually, I've got one now". As a matter of fact, Seb seems to be pretty surprised "Friend?". And then John corrects Sherlock and says "colleague", and Sherlock looks genuinely hurt. Look at that poor thing!

This is just after John says "colleague"

He then lowers his eyes:

And finally glanced at John with a certain sadness on his face:

This sounds quite plausible, I hadn't really thought about that until now.
Another theory (and this might already have been discussed in one of the Baskerville threads, so sorry if I'm repeating stuff that has already been mentioned ages ago): Sherlock just left Henry and he obviously needs John now to do his sugar experiment, right? So, when John walks away after Sherlock's 'apology', he without knowing walks away from the experiment Sherlock is determined to do. Sherlock certainly wants to get this experiment over with as soon as possible in order to see if he can proof his theory. It therefore is absolutely necessary to reconcile John... and so he comes up with those 'compliments'. Does that make any sense?

Yes, it makes sense. But I don't want to believe it because it is not very romantic.

You are absolutely right, of course. I don't wanna believe it, either, I just thought I'd mention it for... scientific reasons.

Such a wonderful actor.... *happy sigh*  Not that it comes to news to the bunch of us, of course! He is a marvel. And it's so nice when the writers give him this kind of thing to emote, without words.

See how great this show is with all the various interpretations we are allowed to have and nothing is black or white. The moments of that scene plays out just as you said, Punch. But to me in my Johnlocked world, Seb was reacting to the word 'friend', not with surprise that Sherlock could have a friend, but with a certain snarky innuendo that was implying something other than friendship.  John reacts to that innuendo with a correction - as he often does in the first few episodes until HOUND - when he pretty much gives up. Just my personal take on Seb's line and John's reaction - doesn't mean it's right - but it 'could' be.

Re: Finally: The Sherlock/John picture thread

Ha....  I love that scene...  amusement, facepalming, intrigue, and a perfect 'slice' of each character....  and I don't think I ever mentioned it's kinda neat to sometimes see 'themed' pictures from you in each individual favorite pic thread, that go together.    Nice shot.
