When I see those looks I always wonder: What does it say in the script at this point? Does it say 'Sherlock looks at John with this look that makes shippers go wild'...? Or does it just happen without anyone on the set even noticing...? (Yeah, well, no, that's absurd, I know. )
They are obviously way beyond that point. When Mr Gatiss posted just a tiny part of Sherlock's collar on twitter some time ago in the purple shirt I knew that they play with fan's feelings as much as they can.
Right, I completely forgot about that one.
And I presume they'll be playing with our feelings bigtime when it comes to the reunion of Sherlock and John... they'll probably give us a teensy glimpse of what could be...

Something like this would definitely kill me, reunionwise:

I think this may be photoshop.

Yes, it is. Created by someone on pinterest or tumblr, don't remember which.

Yes, possibly, but the mere thought of a moment like this...
edit: the_dancing_woman was a bit faster...

I agree; they're having fun with us. I don't feel toyed with, though. I think most of it is all in fun and fairly respectful.
Everyone is in on it, of course. Writers, producers, actors, directors, everyone is in on the take on the S/J relationship that the show runners have decided on. Ben and Martin have agreed to play it the way it's presented, as a true bromance, which is actually just the way ACD wrote their characters, way back in the late 1800s!
I think it's lovely and never over the top, the warmth and trust between them running along under and behind everything that happens in every script. All of us should have a friend like that, whether or not it includes sex, lol.

Of course it is.
But I sit here wondering, so, is this right before John punches him in the gut, or right after? lololol

I entirely agree with the whole of it. And I'm grateful for the way they enable us to have fun with it and enjoy it all. That's what I call witty entertainment.

Couldn't agree more! They are teasing us and playing with us, albeit in a very respectful way. It's all part of the fun.
As for the photo, if John and Sherlock were to hug like this onscreen, I think I would just grin like an idiot for two days afterwards (and I am not even a Johnlocker, just shipping their friendship like hell).

Absolutely, and what's also part of the fun (at least for me): To know that they won't go all the way with Sherlock und John, and to wonder what they will come up with next to give us at least something. Because they always give us something, in each episode... looks, a sort of holding-hands but not reeaally... clever, just clever.

Yesss! My thoughts exactly on the "Reichenbach" handholding scene, just and simply brilliantly done! They do and yet they don't

For me, it's tricky to say how I ship them. As for the show, I think I ship them more as a bromance. But I do love some smutty stuff on DeviantArt

I think for me the fun of the shipping lies in what the_dancing_woman wrote: It's this they-do-and-they-don't-thing that makes it so appealing to me. I'm not quite sure, but I think I wouldn't really want them to kiss or anything. But those tiny moments in which you can't be too sure what's really going on there between them right now... did they just look at each other or did they look at each other, stuff like that.
The classic example for me is the scene in TRF when they are at Bart's and Molly talks to Sherlock about how sad he looks when he thinks that John can't see him. And then Sherlock looks over to John over the microscope for what's probably not even a whole second... gosh, that's really all I need to see on the show in terms of Johnlock!
FFs are a totally different thing, though.

They do love each other, in whichever way you want to see it

That's definitely true!

I think this is also the beauty of it all, and has always been the appeal of this very special friendship: the magic is in the understatement and therefore small moments and gestures of affection matter so much. I think this is why people fell for it in the 1880s and this is why we fall for it today. It's the magic of great literature and Mofftiss have managed to translate it on to the television screen just perfectly.

You read Sherlock-John slash fan fic? There's a whole world of it out there, to appeal to whatever someone wants, whatever their sensibilities are. Come visit us over on the Sherlock-John fan fic rec list, if you want. All are welcome, long as they don't go there to criticize the idea of Johnlock.

Archive of Our Own is also a great place to find fanfic for just about any fandom you can imagine. I find it hard to find good Johnlock fic there, though, simply because of the overwhelming number of stories being posted. I love going to our thread here on the forum, I guess because I seem to be like-minded with the other forum members who are reading Johnlock and putting up their own recs.
