I mean, they should know what's going on on the www these days....

We love that show, see it on BBC America here in the States, but they're usually a season or two behind. Good ol' BBC, they're in no hurry to release their stuff to the US. But anyway, at this link you gave us, I couldn't see anything about Ben. What did I miss??

Hate the show, but will have to watch it for Benedict.

AG, here it is:
Series 20, Episode 3
Top Gear (UK)
/
Season 20
/
Episode 3
Jeremy, Richard and James are on a mission to take their British pounds to the cash starved people of Spain. They have selected some sensitive cars for the job with Clarkson in a McLaren 12C Spider, Hammond driving a Ferrari 458 Spider and May using an Audi R8 V10 Spyder. Benedict Cumberbatch is the star in the Reasonably Priced Car this week.

Thanks! I must have been blind in one eye and couldn't see out of the other, because I sure didn't see that. Do you know if I can watch that ep on that website, which I think is British TV Guide? 'Cause I sure won't be able to see anything on BBC.

Sorry, I don't know. We have the show in Germany but I don't know if they show the episodes at the same time as in Britain. You could try the TV Guide website. Or Radio Times.

Actually I went to the BBC America website, and it says they're starting season 20 on Monday, July 8th! Yay! So Ben is on ep 3, and it sounds as if we'll be able to see it at the end of this month. Thanks for the heads up on this.
For those who don't know, Top Gear brings in a celeb for each episode and has them drive a "reasonably priced car". They put the celeb in a helmet and strap him or her down well inside the car, then they have them drive like a bat out of hell around a race course. It's a fairly new car, but just a small, ordinary little thing, so it tips and sways and tries to roll over as the person drives too fast, can't figure out how to shift gears, etc. Much hilarity ensues. And then the person comes back to the studio for an interview. Usually I don't know who the celebs are, because most of the time they're Brits that I'm not familiar with, but it'll be interesting to see Ben.

Your description is entirely accurate and exactly why I hate the show...sigh.

It's a guy thing, and I presume you're not a guy. Neither am I, but our family is weird-- we're car hounds. One of the first things my husband ever said to me, I think it was either during or right after our first date, was, "Can I drive your car?" I had a new, bright red 1970 Chevy Camaro, and while he liked me and everything, he wanted to get his hands on my car, lololol And so it's gone with us-- we're car aficionados.
I always thought the humor on that show was Monty Python-esque, ie old-school British. Kind of irreverent, teasing, off the wall, etc. So for us, it's kind of more quirky than offensive. Humor is subjective, and not everyone laughs at the same thing, that's for sure.
But anyway, it's a guy show, no doubt about that. But then some of us strange girls watch too, lol. And I'd watch most anything to see Ben in something new.

Oh yes, I'll watch Benedict in anything and I have to accept about him: he is a petrol head!
Not his worst fault, after all!

I'm not very interested in car shows but this will be an exception. Maybe I'll watch it with my son.

I will add that before they let the star loose in the reasonably priced car they are instructed by the mysterious Stig (who is a pro-driver). From time-to-time they do allow certain stars to have a go in much faster cars such as the McLaren MP4 (Michael Fassebender). After instruction, of course. We love a bit of Top Gear here!
The interview with the celebrity has within it the practices with the Stig and then the lap that counts. The result is then posted on a leader board.
They always reckon that those who also ride motorbikes tend to do well.

This is when having TV would be an advantage, I don't like Car Shows, but I'd watch pretty much anything Benedict is in

How friendly and confidently he masters this situation with the overexcited and screaming fans - especially after a long flight - hats off!

What a sweetie gentleman. *is impressed all over again* I couldn't make out much of what he said except he kept saying, "I'm very very touched," and that he said thank you. Kept bowing, Asian style. Lovely man. It's nice to see him becoming so much more relaxed with his own celebrity and comfy inside his own skin. I am soooo happy for him!

He explained to the fans that security weren't allowing him to sign any autographs.
He thanked them for waiting so long to see him.
He also said that even his Mum and Dad don't come to meet him at the airport anymore!
EDIT: this is fab!

Here's the link to the full Japan press conference. The first two minutes are great, then you can skip to minute 25 as nothing happens for quite a long time. (P.S. I love it when they're calling him Cumberbatch San).
