He's a good actor. Knows how to use his face, body and voice for the effect he's aiming for, or the effect the director or photographer wants.

Too much hair gel for my taste.
One should always wear gloves with ruffling that hair.

Well, ain't that the truth. Once someone's wearing their slash glasses, they tend to see everything through that filter. Mmmm, niiiiiice.Damn...lol. Ok, bitches, how about I don't write John in it? Maybe I'll pack him off somewhere. Yeah, try Johnlocking it then.
No need to call me names. Don't worry about me, anyway; I don't read anything but slash in fan fic, so if it's gen of M/F ship, I won't go near it. Write what you like, what you understand, etc-- all authors have to do that, 'cause if you write for your readers, it won't work, IMO.
OMG, I was just messing about! I'm SO SORRY if I've offended you, was just being stupid hence the face with shades! Argh, am going to sit in the naughty corner now...so, so, sorry...

One of my favourite moments in The Great Game...
During my re-watch last night this moment really stood out as we don't get to see Sherlock genuinely smile very often. Or, not often enough I should say *sigh*.

Oh yes - this pool smile is simply lovely...
No smile here - just curls and neck. Quite dangerous...

Yes. If you want a safe one, here's an example from my soothing green/blue department:

It says something that pretty much most (if not all) genuine smiles of his involve John in some way...just saying . Anyway, yeah...the pool smile is a great one indeed, love it

IMO that's a Ben smile that crept out without warning, and the director kept it in. It doesn't look like Sherlock at all. In fact, unless I knew better, I'd say this image was taken between takes, while they did the scene. I know it's part of the scene, though, but srsly, this is Ben. Very pretty, eh?

@ancientsgate. Mmmm...I can see that happening, to me it feels both like a rare genuine Sherlock smile and a Ben smile. Either way, yeah, very pretty . There are times in movies or shows when occasionally I'll see someone smile or laugh and feels as thought it's the actor/actress themselves doing that, feels more real rather than acted.

Right. That's exactly what I meant. For a brief moment, for some reason, Ben allowed himself to shine through, over, around (whatever it is) his Sherlock personna. We've seen Sherlock smile many times, and this ain't it. You know, IMO, based on the 10,000 different images I've seen of both of them (Sherlock and Ben) in the last year or so. Pretty, prettier, and prettiest, all rolled up into one. mmm
