A habit of mine is creating playlists for shows/books/movies I love or simply finding certain songs that remind me of them. Sherlock definitely being one of them . I must've come across dozens of songs that remind me of, or that feel appropriate for, certain characters/relationships/elements of the show. I know there is a section for fanvideos and such, but this one could be just for songs (of course some will probably have been into fanvideos as well) . I apologize if there is already a topic like this somewhere on here (though I couldn't find it, if there is than just ignore me, hehe ). Anyway, I figure it might be neat to share songs we feel remind us of the show in some way! And maybe we could also explain why they remind us of the show?
I'll start off;
The Scientist ~ Coldplay (now this has been made into a video by a few people, but even on it's own it always reminds me of John and Sherlock)
Undisclosed Desires ~ Muse (Honestly, I don't really know why this reminds me of John and Sherlock...it just does for some reason )
Without You ~ RENT (A part of me pictures this as being from Johns, maybe even Sherlocks, perspective after The Reichenbach Fall)
Sound The Bugle ~ Bryan Adams
Wherever You Will Go ~ The Calling
That's enough from me for now, I have many more. Some of those are kinda romantic, but I really can see Sherlock and John being either a romantic couple or a friendship one.

I recently read a Johnlock fan fiction called "Be Here Now", and the author was inspired by a song of the same title. Having never heard it before, I gave it a listen...I just about cried, it was quite lovely and rings quite true to John and Sherlocks relationship arc in that particular fan fic. And I think it could have some semblance to the TV series as well.

I came across this song when I accidentaly saw a tweet by one of the guys who is resposible for Sherlock's music. He mentioned it and I think the lyrics fit nicely. I kind of hear John talking about Sherlock.
The Whole of the Moon- The Waterboys
I pictured a rainbow
You held it in your hands
I had flashes
But you saw the plan
I wandered out in the world for years
While you just stayed in your room
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
You were there in the turnstiles
With the wind at your heels
You stretched for the stars
And you know how it feels
To reach too high
Too far
Too soon
You saw the whole of the moon
I was grounded
While you filled the skies
I was dumbfounded by truth
You cut through lies
I saw the rain dirty valley
You saw Brigadoon
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
I spoke about wings
You just flew
I wondered I guessed and I tried
You just knew
I sighed
... but you swooned!
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
With a torch in your pocket
And the wind at your heels
You climbed on the ladder
And you know how it feels
To get too high
Too far too soon
You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon!
Unicorns and cannonballs
Palaces and piers
Trumpets towers and tenements
Wide oceans full of tears
Flags rags ferryboats
Scimitars and scarves
Every precious dream and vision
Underneath the stars
You climbed on the ladder
With the wind in your sails
You came like comet
Blazing your trail
Too high too far too soon
You saw the whole of the moon

This beautiful song by Don Mclean is an old favorite. I listened to it tonight for the first time in ages and was struck dumb by how much it made me think of John post TRF.
Haven't figured out posting links yet but it's easily found on youtube and worth the listen.
"Crossroads"
I've got nothing on my mind,
Nothing to remember,
Nothing to forget.
And I've got nothing to regret.
But I'm all tied up on the inside,
No one knows quite what I've got,
And I know that on the outside
What I used to be
I'm not
anymore.
You know I've heard about people like me
But I never made the connection.
They walk one road to set them free
And find they've gone the wrong direction.
But there's no need for turning back
Cause all roads lead to where I stand;
And I believe I'll walk them all
No matter what I may have planned.
Can you remember who I was?
Can you still feel it?
Can you find my pain?
Can you heal it?
Then lay your hands upon me now
And cast this darkness from my soul.
You alone can light my way.
You alone can make me whole
Once again.
We've walked both sides of every street
Through all kinds of windy weather;
But that was never our defeat
As long as we could walk together.
So there's no need for turning back
Cause all roads lead to where we stand;
And I believe we'll walk them all
No matter what we may have planned.

I started watching a show called White Collar and this was the song at the end. It reminds me of poor John.
Lyrics :
Take me away from here
And all today's pain
You know I see it all so clear
The morning after the rain
And I worry all the time
What's coming around the bend
Maybe I'm just going crazy
But it feels like the end
I don't remember what I've done
I'm done with all the years
I've got no one but myself
To ask "how did I get here"
And I worry all the time
What's coming around the bend
Maybe I'm just going crazy
But it feels like the end
I wonder where you are tonight
Does the same moon light shine down on you
And what if I had changed your mind
If I'd seen the signs
Tell me what we'd be doing now
Cause now I'm walking down the street
Got no money for a car
I've been walking for so long
And I never got very far
And I worry all the time
What's coming around the bend
Maybe I'm just going crazy
But it feels like the end
I wonder where you are tonight
Does the same moon light shine down on you
And what if I had changed your mind
If I'd seen the signs
Tell me what would we be doing now
Take me away from here
And all today's pain
You know I see it all so clear
The morning after the rain
And I worry all the time
What's coming around the bend
Maybe I'm just going crazy
And it feels like the end

So many sad songs ...but very good ones, I really like Don Mclean
While googling Sherlock things I came across two songs from Green Day, American Idiot
Jesus of Suburbia
I'm the son of rage and love
The Jesus of Suburbia
From the bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of
Soda pop and Ritalin
No one ever died for my sins in hell
As far as I can tell
At least the ones I got away with
And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me
St. Jimmy
St. Jimmy's comin' down across the alleyway
Up on the boulevard like a zip gun on parade
Light of a silhouette
He's insubordinate
Coming at you on the count of 1,2,1,2,3,4!
My name is Jimmy and you better not wear it out
Suicide commando that your momma talked about
King of the forty thieves
And I'm here to represent
The needle in the vein of the establishment
I'm the patron saint of the denial
With an angel face and a taste for suicidal
Cigarettes and ramen and a little bag of dope
I am the son of a bitch and Edgar Allen Poe
Raised in the city under a halo of lights
The product of war and fear that we've been victimized
I'm the patron saint of the denial
With an angel face and a taste for suicidal
ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?
I'll give you something to cry about.
ST. JIMMY!
My name is St. Jimmy I'm a son of a gun
I'm the one that's from the way outside
I'm a teenage assassin executing some fun
In the cult of the life of crime.
I really hate to say it but I told you so
So shut your mouth before I shoot you down ol' boy
Welcome to the club and give me some blood
And the resident leader at the lost and found
It's comedy and tragedy
It's St. Jimmy
And that's my nameeeeeee... and don't wear it out!

I like the one with Particle Man:
But as far as songs that remind me of Sherlock...I love the original music so much that I can listen to it and see the images and hear the dialogue from it. It's so...different that it has the right feel to it that other songs can't exactly capture.

A band I really like, The Goo Goo Dolls, recently released a new album called "Magnetic". As this has happened to coincide with me attempting to write a Sherlock (Johnlock, 'cus honestly...I'm sucker for them ) fanfiction of my own, a few of the songs have become inspiration for me . Here are the lyrics for a couple of them in particular that remind me of Sherlock and John
More Of You;
Now you pull me in and I feel so free
I wanna do to you what you do to me
Yeah you lift me up I never feel so high
Now you're making feel that I'm alive
No matter what I do, I always want more of you
Am I ever gonna get you next to me
Come on will you give me a sign
I think we both could use some mending
No matter what you say I'm gonna make you mine
Are you gonna keep me waiting
Are you gonna let me inside
When you're coming undone
Do you wanna run away tonight
Ooh tonight
Don't wanna give up
Don't wanna back down
Never ever gonna let you go
Now you pull me in and I feel so free
I wanna do to you what you do to me
Yeah you lift me up I never feel so high
Now you're making feel that I'm alive
No matter what I do, I always want more of you
I can't sleep here alone
Could you lay down beside me
If you're by me
If the world ends tonight
Caught In The Storm (also what I've decided to title my fanfic );
Out on my own
Take me home
Don't you know I'm lonely
I'll give you everything that you ask of me
And I'll give you all I have if it makes you believe
Cause I'm caught in the storm
We call love
I was taught to always turn the other cheek
And you know I took the beating and I stayed up on my feet
And this faith is getting heavy
But you know it carries me
From the streets to the river
Where the broken dreams flow out into the sea
I keep on looking but somethings always missing
I keep on looking for something bigger than me
To the saints to the sinners, all the losers and the winners
Yeah, we're all just looking something, something to believe in
Cause I'm caught in this storm
We call love
So alone come find me
Out on my own
Take me home
Don't you know I'm lonely
I'll give you everything that you ask of me
And I'll give you all I have if it makes you believe
Cause I'm caught in the storm
That we call love

oooh, that sounds awesome. Going to see the Goo Goo Dolls in August but haven't heard the new album yet.
Big True Blood fan here. Was watching first episode of the new season the other night and when the show's theme song started I was immediately over come with Johnlock fever.
"When you walked in the air went out,
and every shadow filled up with doubt
I don't know what you've done to me but I know this much is true,
I wanna do bad things with you......."
Someone needs to do a fan video!!

I've never actually seen any True Blood (I don't have TV), but I've always wanted to . As for the Goo Goo Dolls...I'm seeing them in less than a week! *squeak* You really should listen to their new album, so many jewels on it, especially Rebel Beat and Come To Me

I've been listening to Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' a lot lately (great song btw), and it struck me that in a way this song reminded me of Moriarty, and Sherlock, both for different but not dissimilar reasons;
"Viva La Vida"
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever wanna be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Aww... Crossroads by Don McLean is so lovely (One of my all time favourite songs is Vincent, by him. It's been a fav of mine for a long time, but now it reminds me so much of my husband...)
I'm currently working on a Sherlock fanvid using the song "I am not a robot" by Marina and the diamonds. It reminds me of John calling Sherlock a "machine" and surely regretting it later. They could sing this song:
You’ve been acting awful tough lately
Smoking a lot of cigarettes lately
But inside, you’re just a little baby
It’s okay to say you’ve got a weak spot
You don’t always have to be on top
Better to be hated than love, love, loved for what you’re not
You’re vulnerable, you’re vulnerable
You are not a robot
You’re loveable, so loveable
But you’re just troubled
Guess what? I’m not a robot, a robot
Guess what? I’m not a robot, a robot
You’ve been hanging with the unloved kids
Who you never really liked and you never trusted
But you are so magnetic, you pick up all the pins
Never committing to anything
You don’t pick up the phone when it ring, ring, rings
Don’t be so pathetic, just open up and sing
I’m vulnerable, I’m vulnerable
I am not a robot
You’re loveable, so loveable
But you’re just troubled
Guess what? I’m not a robot, a robot
Guess what? I’m not a robot, a robot
Can you teach me how to feel real?
Can you turn my power on?
Well, let the drum beat drop
Guess what? I’m not a robot
Guess what? I’m not a robot
I've actually already used the beginning of this song in one of my videos but I'd like to make a video on the whole song. The clips I used for the beginning of this song are in this video (which apparently doesn't work in Germany...) from 2'10" :

@Punch me in the face.
Oooooh! I like the lyrics, very appropriate! Be sure to post the link in the fan video topic when you're done the video, would love to see it!

Thanks Silver! Like I said just above, you have a preview, hehe! As I already made a clip of the first 40 seconds or so (the link I posted at the end of my previous message)
Actually, there's a 2010 song by the same singer which is even more appropriate, to a point it seems to have been written for Sherlock! (the end... That is so weird... I know it has nothing to do with sherlock but it looks like a prophecy! lol) but it has obviously already been used in a couple of fanvids so I didn't choose that one, but just have a look for yourself! :
Don't do love, don't do friends
I'm only after a success
Don't need a relationship
I'll never soften my grip
Don't want cash don't want card
Want it fast want it hard
Don't need money
Don't need fame
I just wanna make a change
I just wanna change
I just wanna change
I just wanna change
I just wanna change
I just wanna change
I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!
One track mind, one track heart
If I fail, I'll fall apart
Maybe it is all a test
Cause I feel like I'm the worst,
So I always act like I'm the best
If you are not very careful
Your possessions will possess you
TV taught me how to feel
Now real life has no appeal
it has not appeal
I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!
I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!
I'm gonna live I'm gonna fly
I'm gonna fail I'm gonna die
I'm gonna live I'm gonna fly
I'm gonna fail I'm gonna die die die die
I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!
I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!
Anyway, I thought of that other song (I am not a robot) and thought it was appropriate too, because that's how I picture Sherlock: someone who despises mediocrity and always wants to be on top though deep inside, he is vulnerable, his weak spot being John, and he sometimes reminds me of an innocent and defenceless child...

I've always thought that "E.T." by Katy Perry fits Sherlock very well... it's even better from a Johnlock POV
You're so hypnotizing
Could you be the devil?
Could you be an angel?
Your touch magnetizing
Feels like I am floating
Leaves my body glowing
They say "be afraid"
You're not like the others
Futuristic lover
Different DNA
They don't understand you
You're from a whole other world
A different dimension
You open my eyes
And I'm ready to go
Lead me into the light
Kiss me, kiss me
Infect me with your love and
Fill me with your poison
Take me, take me
Wanna be a victim
Ready for abduction
You're so supersonic
Wanna feel your powers
Stun me with your lasers
Your kiss is cosmic
Every move is magic
This is transcendental
On another level
Boy, you're my lucky star
I wanna walk on your wave length
And be there when you vibrate
For you I'll risk it all.
